"Hold him down!" Someone yelled when they finally got me to the ground. I didn't stop fighting, clawing at each of them before they could snap the cuffs on me. "Damn it, hold him still!"
"We're trying!" Another grunted, yelling a second later when I ripped his throat open.
"Someone's taught him ancient magic," Melissa mused, watching the others struggle. "Interesting. Who's been giving you lessons, Ivan? How did you find a Risen?"
I had no idea what she was talking about, but I didn't have a chance to ask.
My attention was on her people and their chains. I agreed to be here, but Melissa lied. That meant me being here wasn't necessary anymore. Not that I expected her to play by honor. That's why I fought in the first place. Besides, did she really think I'd played by the rules? She was crazy.
"My lady, they're gone!" Someone came into the room, panting for breath. "They took his truck."
That got a reaction from her.
