My eyes snapped open at the unfamiliar sound in the room. It was soft, so it shouldn't have gotten my attention, but it was the one noise I'd been hoping to hear most of the night. So, it sounded like a bomb going off, even with the music playing from Nefera's phone and her occasional cursing and inner comments echoing through the bond. Still, I didn't immediately move. Part of me was afraid I was asleep and dreaming.
The problem with being us is that we're both too persistent for our own good. Once there was the slightest chance of finding a way into this damn thing, neither of us wanted to give in. Yet, we were both running on empty, so we agreed to take this in turns. I wasn't used to the level of exhaustion I was feeling, but until I got used to using magic, it would be part of my life. Still, it didn't mean I didn't let Nefera sleep for a few extra minutes until the timer went off, and she woke on her own.
