"Thank you, officer," Caroline said, smiling gratefully at Sean, who was pretending to be one of the cops. He told her that it wasn't safe for us to stay here and that they were preparing for someone to come and get us. Caroline planned to stay with a friend in town, but I couldn't allow her to take Miranda or Lena.
"Carrie?" The old woman called for her daughter, my spell having worn off a while ago. "What's happening?"
"Don't worry, Mom," She rushed over to her, taking her hand. "Everything's alright. The police are here to help us."
"Police?" She blinked, confused, as she turned to me. "But the police can't fight monsters?"
"How can mom just believe this was something it wasn't?" Miranda was sitting up, watching as her mother hushed her grandmother and told her not to worry about anything. "How can she protect the lie?"
