My panic grew when I reached my friend's side. He was barely breathing, and the smell of blood filled my nose. There wasn't enough light to see how badly hurt he was, but he was cold to the touch. Unfortunately, I didn't even know how to do CPR properly, so I had no clue how to help. The only thing I could think of was to run my hands over his body, checking where he was bleeding from.
Where were Vince and Steven? I swore they'd followed me. At least they knew a little about first aid or could help carry Luke to the packhouse where someone could see him. They should've been right behind me, but there was no one. We were alone until someone heard the fighting, but I could only hope they were friends and not enemies.
"I'll be okay," Luke whispered, turning his face toward me. I couldn't see his expression, but I imagined his trademark; everything's okay, smile. Sadly, I knew he was lying. "You need to go. Nefera, he could hurt you."
