Nefretiri
'Feel for the right one,' Hel advised, still not taking control. I understand why now. If she took control, she could make the treasure, but because of what she was, whatever that is, no one would be able to use it. This was the human world, so humans had to bridge the gap between the physical and the ethereal. 'Don't use your eyes. Use your senses.'
Easy for her to say. I had experience with sense magic but no access to my own. My connection to Hel was limited, and only completing the hunt would allow that limitation to open up. That was another thing I'd learned. Every time Ivan and I let the possession happen, we were unlocking another door that allowed Hel, the rider, to access the human world. It seemed easier as a kid because the doors were different, but now that I am an adult, the hunt is the only way.
