All I could do was stare at the man I wanted from the moment I came into existence. Not this life, but from the birth of my essence. Somehow I could see it, even if I couldn't explain or understand it. He was mine and always had been. So, seeing him in front of me, ready to defend me from anyone, meant everything.
Ivan was my protector, but I was his too. We weren't just lovers. We were partners. Some of our traits synced up and were similar, but many more were opposites. That might seem like we shouldn't be a perfect match, but we balanced each other perfectly.
Jackie pressed the gun to my temple, intending to cause me more pain, but I didn't feel it. My body didn't react, and I instinctively knew I wasn't hurt this time, either. It was humanly impossible, but I wasn't human at the moment. At least, I didn't feel that way. So, physical pain was something that meant nothing to me.
