"See, it only took forty-five minutes," Ivan smirked when we entered Denver. I don't bother hiding the eye roll at his smugness. "We're early."
Yes, we were early, which seemed like a minor miracle considering the morning's chaos.
Like the first night, when dawn came, Ivan and I passed out from exhaustion. The difference being we weren't in a hotel room with a comfortable bed. There was no discomfort, and I wouldn't mind a camping trip or two with sleeping bags. Ivan held me protectively, and I instinctively knew that no wild predator would dare come to bother us.
The same could not be said for the ones who were our friends.
