"Oh shit. Here we go," Cabe suddenly announced, and I shifted underneath all the bags. It was uncomfortable back here, especially since I was holding baby Eric and Cabe's bird, Lyra, was in her cage on top of my legs.
"What's wrong?" Ivan lifted his head slightly, but the things acting as our camouflage kept him from being able to see.
"We've got a police blockade," Vince muttered, his voice holding nothing but cold calculation. "Strange, there's only two of them."
Why was that odd?
"Vince, open my glove compartment," Cabe ordered hurriedly. He didn't seem worried, but there was no time to waste. "Put it on."
"You've got to be kidding!" He sounded outraged, but he was laughing. I was half tempted to peek out to see what he'd found. "I'm not wearing those."
"Not that," Cabe huffed, and then we heard rummaging before he exclaimed in victory. "This."
