I promised I wouldn't leave him.
It doesn't sound like much, but it's enough of an anchor to keep me here. The pain was still unbearable, but I didn't feel myself slipping away anymore. The last time this happened, I couldn't remember what had happened, only going by what my family told me, but I held onto everything I'd learned this time. One thing, in particular, keeps me grounded, but my lips can't make the words I need to say.
'Ivan...' I mind-link him, hoping I have the focus to do it. Thankfully, he looks down at me as I attempt to cup his face. I don't know what's going on, but I hear the noises of creatures that don't sound like anything I've heard. 'Ivan, Penelope... she's yours.'
