"I'm sorry," Jessica speaks for the first time since we left the mountain, looking out the window and not at me. "I think I haven't said that to you."
"For what?" I don't know what's more awkward, the silence or this. It's the first time since San Diego I've been alone with my ex, and it's still fucking uncomfortable. "This isn't your fault."
Ironically it wasn't. It was mine, and it's Nefera's. We fell into an old habit simultaneously, but thanks to outside circumstances, there was a twist to it.
"No, not for tonight," She turns to face me, and her almost golden eyes scrutinize me carefully. "For assuming you'd choose someone like Aurora. I'm sorry for misjudging Nefretiri for something she wasn't."
"I thought you'd never say that," It comes out like I'm mocking her, but I was sincere. I knew how hard it was for Jessica to apologize for anything, even harder to admit she'd been wrong.
