"You think I'm crazy, don't you?" Nefera glances at me as we drive down the street.
"A little," I admit. "But I love you for it."
"I'm glad because I don't think that's going to change anytime soon," She sighs. "I know you hate having her here."
"I don't like having her here," I correct. "I hate that you trust her with our child."
"You know why we have to do this," Nefera's voice is quiet, and she looks out the window.
"You're thinking about the possibilities, aren't you?" I tighten my grip on the steering wheel.
"Can you blame me for that?"
"No," I sigh. "I really can't."
The thought that Nefera had another child out there made me sick. Not because I couldn't handle the idea, but because I couldn't stop imagining the thoughts of one of those pups I'd watched die being that child.
