"Yes," Mary grins at Nefera. "My job is no different than yours is with your child. I provide for my children, discipline them when they're wrong, and help guide them to their goals and dreams. Then, when they get hurt, I share in their pain and support every one of them until they find their way again."
"Is that what you're doing now, then?" Nefera tilts her head to her. "Are you trying to be my parent?"
Mary purses her lips thoughtfully. "More like an aunt."
"What's the difference?" Nefera scowls at that.
"I play a supportive role in your life instead of trying to raise you," She shrugs. "I'd hate to step on anyone's toes when it comes to you."
"What does that mean?" I demand, sensing that she's tipping around something.
"We're going to put a pin in that one," Mary pretends to do that with her hands. "It gets a tad more complicated at that point."
