Chereads / His Bride Not Mate / Chapter 4 - Chapter 3.

Chapter 4 - Chapter 3.

If I had known better I wouldn't be here in the first place, even though I was compelled to.

The number one rule which all Alphas must follow was simple but very strict, well not for me though since I had just broken it. An Alpha cannot have sexual intercourse with any woman except she is his mate or wife, anyone else apart from these two were considered an abomination. Unfortunately, the woman I slept with is not my mate. I had checked all around my body for any signs if perhaps I'm mistaken but nothing. There was no proof that she is, and at the same time she is not my wife either so I had committed a sin, an abomination even.

However no one must know of this otherwise she would be in grave danger. I really don't care what happens to me but that woman shouldn't suffer, I feel more guilty knowing that I was her first, but I guess that was one of  the reason if not the only one as to why she hesitated back then, if I had known earlier then I would have taken her as my bride earlier.

I'm at the age where not having a wife or mate could lead to a war. Thirty years was the limit, if any Alpha was unable to find his mate before he turned thirty then the council would choose a bride for him. Apparently, the universe is trying to play dirty with me as it turns out that I have only a few months left before I turn thirty and as a result they have decided to pick a wife for me. The problem is that none of these people actually want me to have more power over them than I already do and you could tell that by choices. Today they had arranged for me to meet with an Omega, which is beyond doubt, a useless partner.

I would have simply chosen to ignore it, had it been that I had found the woman I am looking for or not have fallen for a child's prank.

"You trust people way too much Matt." I told him.

We were in the middle of nowhere, and I mean actually nowhere. Not even a living soul passed through here. If my guess is correct, this should rather be the hunting grounds.

"I'm sorry. The good thing is that we can find our way out."

"Oh no, there's no way in hell I'm letting you lead the way after what just happened. Follow me."

I lead the way tracking our fading scent and footprints. It takes a while but we come out safely. I decided to follow the path the young child took because for some reason, I had a hunch that he was coming from the Devian mansion. Still, I can't stop wondering why he was so dirty. I don't think anyone could walk dressed in tatters around an Alpha's mansion. Something was definitely off about that boy.

"Oh. Alpha Nelson."  The middle aged man greeted me. It was a journey I never want to experience ever again. We spent three precious hours trying to make our way to this godforsaken place.

The moment they saw me drive in, I was flooded with warm greetings, but unfortunately for them, my difficult journey already left a bad taste in my mouth about this place. Warm receptions cannot easily amend it. I wasn't moved much even after hearing all their sweet words, besides, those sweet words seem a lot like the opposite of what he truly means. He seemed to be in quite a lot of panic because his hands were shaky and his smile felt so unreal, something must have happened for him to have such a look of nervousness on his face. The bodyguards even  looked pale, the air was also tense.

Well whatever it is, it certainly has nothing to do with me, so I make a resolve within myself to mind my business and act like I know nothing. If anything, I would really like to know why on earth they would allow such a kid to roam around freely, tricking and robbing people and why there wasn't a goddamn indication to tell which path led to his house.

"Alpha Devian. It's a pleasure to see you, I must say, it was really something trying to find my way here, I never thought you'd live in the shades of a mountain." I told him.

"And to think this mountain had thieves freely roaming about, it was one hell of an experience."

I have no intention of hiding my hostility. It's quite annoying if you think of it. After traveling for hours to meet one woman, I was tricked by a kid.

"A thief? That sounds almost impossible, besides we did mark the right path leading here."

What is this, the markings were all over the place, and that was the reason we were confused, besides that kid was able to fool us because of that.  As I spoke, the alpha looked perplexed. And in that moment it dawns on me as to why he's been so restless. We've got a runaway bride huh, so that little imp was actually a girl all along.

"Where is your daughter?"

"Oh, she's asleep at the moment, she really is something, but don't worry we'll find... I mean bring her to you in the morning."

Looks like luck is on my side today. She doesn't want to marry me and neither do I. Regardless of whether or not they find her I don't mind because she may turn out to be very useful in the future. A very good chess piece even. To think that an opportunity like this would arrive, I don't plan on hurting or using her that much especially if she agrees to cooperate with me. A person like her who ran away before even seeing what her groom looks like would most likely not care about the circumstances she's in, as long as she gets her desire, that is, she can put up with everything.

"Oh I don't mind, she can sleep as much as she wants to while I will wait patiently, be it tomorrow or next week." I retorted.

Matt if it weren't for you I wouldn't have discovered such a rare treasure. Matt seemed to have noticed that something was off.  Of course he would feel that way after I rebelled, he looked over at me, puzzled by my expression and the grin on my face but I didn't care if only he understood what went on in that head of mine then maybe you will that not insisted on us coming here in the first place but now it was already too late I was about to begin phase two of my plan.
