Chapter 20 - YOU DON'T LIKE MY JOB!

Hayam rubbed Vania's head. He knew all of this was hard for him and for Vania.

"Go sleep. You must be tired," said Hayam.

Vania was holding Hayam's white T-shirt. "Accompany me to sleep, please," said Vania.

She would not feel at ease if Hayam did not accompany her to sleep tonight. Hayam gave a gentle smile to Vania.

"Yes, I accompany you," said Hayam. "I want some tea. Do you want me to get it too?"

Vania nodded. "I want to eat some fruits, too? I still feel hungry," squeaked Vania.

"Yes," Hayam got up from his seat. The man stepped out of the room and prepared what Vania asked for.

Meanwhile, Vania is looking for her backpack. She just realized that her bag and office car were still left at the police station.

"Ouch, I have to send news again," Vania hissed.

She scratched her head frantically. Vania's gaze spreaded around. She tried to find out if there was a computer or laptop on the table or shelf in the room.

"Vania, what are you looking for?" said Hayam. The man stared in surprise at his lover who was squatting in front of the bookshelf. Vania turned around. She smiled awkwardly at Hayam.

"I want to find a laptop," said Vania. "My backpack and car are all at the police station. I didn't have time to make news. In fact, I have to deposit the news for the news this morning."

Hayam patted his forehead. Vania is too overworked at work. It made Vania not look like a human.

"Vania, you just had a bad experience. Why don't you relax first?" replied Hayam. He placed the tray of fruit and lemon tea on the table.

"I can not. This is my job. I have to consistently work well so I don't get a warning letter," said Vania. "I've told you before that working as a journalist is difficult. I have to be available 24 hours to cover the news."

"You forget that you are human, Vania," said Hayam. He deliberately cut off Vania's words because he wanted to awaken his lover. "Besides, how much salary do you get? Is that more important than your health?"

Vania was slightly shocked by Hayam's words. She knew Hayam was worried about it. However, Vania felt that her pride was slightly hurt by Hayam's words.

"Whatever the salary, it's not important. The most important thing is that I can finance my life with that job all this time," replied Vania. She tried to maintain her self-esteem. "I don't want to be a weak woman who depends on men like I used to. I am happy with my work even though it feels tiring."

Vania got up from her squatting seat. "If you don't want to lend me a laptop, I can go back to the police station and go back to my house," said Vania.

She stepped out of Hayam's room. The steps moved fast. She tried to hold back her tears so they wouldn't fall.

Hayam took a deep breath. He just wanted Vania to rest. What happened to Vania was one that could cause trauma. He didn't want Vania to experience such a bad thing. Unfortunately, Vania is indeed too stubborn to accept all that.

"VANIA!" shouted Hayam. He ran out of the room and followed Vania.

It looks like Vania is already in front of the house. Hayam quickened his pace and grabbed Vania's hand.

"Vania, stop!" exclaimed Hayam half commanding. Vania's steps stopped. She turned and looked at Hayam with her sad eyes.

One look, Hayam knew that Vania wanted to cry. He embraced his lover's body and hugged her warmly.

"I'm sorry? I was wrong," said Hayam. He tried to understand Vania's condition. "I'll lend you a laptop. Let's go back to the room."

"You don't like my job," said Vania. She started to sob. For some reason, she felt unable to contain her emotions and cries.

Hayam rubbed Vania's back. He kissed her lover's forehead passionately. "Yes, I'm sorry," said Hayam. "I'll try not to repeat what I said earlier."

"You will repeat it," replied Vania sobbing. "You really can't accept my job."

Vania slowly let go of Hayam's arms from her body. She looked at Hayam with tearful eyes. "Should we just break up? You can still find other women who are much more obedient than me," said Vania.

"Vania, listen to me," said Hayam. He did not let go of his arms from Vania's body. His gaze fixed on the cute girl. "I don't hate your job. I just don't like seeing you rest less. Today you worked hard and your life almost cost you. You think that's very normal? You need time to relax, honey," said Hayam. "You should at least take a day off tomorrow."

"Tomorrow?"

"Right, tomorrow you should take a day off and calm down. I will take you to relax in Magelang," said Hayam.

"I have to type," squeaked Vania.

"I will take care of everything," Hayam pulled Vania back into the room.

He sat Vania on the sofa. Then, he gave Vania a laptop.

"Write the news you want. I'll give you two hours," said Hayam. "Tomorrow you have a day off and I'll make up an excuse for you." "Aren't you meddling in my business too much?" said Vania. She was still frowning at Hayam.

"I'm just trying to keep my boyfriend from getting sick," said Hayam. "Vania, the cost of going to a psychologist is expensive. If you don't want to depend on me, you should at least become healthier physically and spiritually."

Vania looked down. She doesn't know when it started, Vania didn't realize that she was getting trapped in a hustle culture. She became a workaholic and didn't know when to stop. Her conversation with Hayam made her realize that Hayam's existence was actually important to her. She could remind herself not to forget to rest and have fun. Especially, when she was hurt and tired.

Vania did not reply to Hayam's words. Her hand moved to open Hayam's laptop. She turned on the laptop and typed.

Hayam watched Vania while enjoying tea and fruit. They don't chat. Hayam is busy with reading books. Even so, Hayam occasionally checked the clock. He confirmed that two hours later, Vania was in bed and sleeping soundly.

The next day, Vania woke up when the sun was already high. Her eyes widened when she looked at the clock on the wall, it was 11.

"Good grief! I have to work!" shrieked Vania.

She immediately jumped off the bed and dashed into the bathroom. Vania is not aware that she is at Hayam's house. She only realized it when she saw Hayam come bringing breakfast for her.

"Eat first, Honey," said Hayam.

"Why are you here?" asked Vania absentmindedly.

"This is my house. You stayed here last night," said Hayam. He set the food on the table. "Your clothes are in that black suitcase. This morning, my maid came to your house to get some of your clothes to put here."

Vania gaped. She finally remembered everything that happened last night.

"Thank you," said Vania shortly. She immediately opened the black suitcase near the closet and took the clothes.

"I've got leave for you," said Hayam. "I said that I need you to report my charity work in the border villages around Sleman and Magelang."

"You really did it?" Vania again gaped at Hayam's words.

"I asked permission for three days. Next week you can just go back to work, "explained Hayam. "You don't have to worry."

"You really—" Vania immediately ran to the bathroom. She immediately changed her clothes and prepared to go to the police station.

"Where are you going? Let's eat first," said Hayam.

"I want to take the car and go to the office. I'm afraid of getting into trouble," replied Vania.

"You won't be in trouble. Look at this," Hayam showed his cell phone to Vania.

Vania stopped walking. She turned to Hayam.

"Come here, My Dear," said Hayam softly.

Vania knew that Hayam treated her like a child. However, she couldn't contain her curiosity.

Vania's steps turned towards Hayam. She jogged over to the man and her hands tried to reach Hayam's cell phone.

"Here, have a seat," Hayam immediately hid his cell phone in his shirt.

"You're so cunning!" cried Vania annoyed.

Hayam chuckled. "Sit down, Honey. You eat and relax. You won't spend a lot of time doing all of this," Hayam explained to Vania.

Vania took a deep breath. She was forced to follow Hayam's words and sat by the man's side.

Hayam got Vania a plate of fried rice and sweet tea. "Eat," said Hayam affectionately.

Vania accepted it. The corner of her eyes is still glancing at Hayam's shirt. Even so, she wasn't sure about taking it by force.

Vania's confidence faded when her brain had imagined that Hayam would pull her down onto the sofa and pin her down. If that happened, Vania could be sure that she would end up in bed with Hayam until the evening.

"Eat carefully, dear," Hayam took a tissue. He wiped the tissue to clean the edges of Vania's lips.

Vania stopped chewing. She looked at Hayam who was treating her well.

"Do you treat me like a child?" she asked. For some reason, she suddenly thought like that. "How old is your son? I never knew much about your family."

"I'll tell you if you want," said Hayam. "But, you must still take time off and vacation with me. There are waterfalls and refreshing rivers there. I'm sure you can relax for a while from the whacking fatigue."

Vania didn't say anything. However, her head still nodded and agreed to the vacation plan.
