Chapter 45 - 45

Augustus didn't mind them. His sole attention was on Louise.

The young woman was still abit dazed, closed her eyes gently but her hands refused to let go of him.

After a few minutes of scuffle, Brandon and Dr. Moore were on a deadlock.

"You should just confess. I will pleaf leniency for you to Augustus. If not, don't blame me for being hard-hearted." Brandon said trying to convince him but his fist were not staying put.

The white man across him had few bruises on his face and his lips cracked.

"Why would I? I didn't do anything wrong! I am just trying to do my job! So, if you're unsatisfied with me, then do get another one!" Dr. Moore exclaimed angrily.

His words made Brandon scoff.

Ha!

"Yeah! After this, you will never have to practice your profession again. Better to say it than to cry with regret later on. You know how powerful the Ye's are in this country and someone small like you will be gone for good if you don't know how to talk..." Brandon threatened.

Anyway, Augustus had power on his hands even without the Ye's. He knew some things about that reclusive family and he believed that Augustus never relied on his family.

His threats seems effective as he saw some hesitations within his eyes.

"I..." Dr. Moore wanted to talk when a bullet suddenly pierced his heart accurately.

He was stunned as his pupils delated. He looked down on his chest which is blooming like a flower.

Brandon was completely stunned. He let go of Dr. Moore's collar and the man slumped lifelessly on the floor. He died without even closing his eyes.

Augustus hugged Louise. He covered her eyes and ears.

She didn't hear anything as she was completely safe in Augustus arms.

Brandon stiffly slid down to the floor like his soul left him.

It was the very first time he saw someone die in his arms with bullet but because he was a doctor, his occupational habit kicked in.

He checked Dr. Moore's wound and he deduced that the bullet was pierced right through his heart. He couldn't be saved.

"Get down!" Augustus suddenly shouted.

Another rain of bullets came in. It was such a close call.

"Find somewhere to hide." Augustus carried Louise off the bed and took cover.

She wanted to scream earlier on but her mouth was hastily covered.

Shaking in fear in Augustus' arms, she saw a bloodied man not faraway from the bed.

Brandon got down and crawled towards them as the bullets rain.

After taking cover, he sighed relief.

Augustus was seething in anger that the vein in his hands bulged.

He forgot that he was hugging Louise in his arms.

"It hurts..." She cried out.
