Chapter 31 - 31

Augustus remained silent.

Lucia was bewildered as she stared at both men.

"What ring?" She asked.

Brandon glanced at Augustus waiting to explain something to her but the man kept mum.

"You will know when the time comes." Brandon spoke up when he confirmed that Augustus didn't want to talk about it.

Lucia didn't press on. She pursed her lips and stayed silent.

Brandon couldn't take the depressing air so he spoke up.

"I will be going then. Call me once you admitted her to the hospital." Brandon walked towards the sofa and got his duffel bag.

Augustus nodded.

"Take care Dr. Lei." Lucia bidded farewell.

"En. You should take rest too." He reminded. Lucia just nodded.

Brandon walked out and the two people remained inside the study room.

"Can you tell me now?" Lucia asked.

"It's a family heirloom. The ring was passed down from generation to generation and I was the one who kept it until now. My grandfather gave it to me when my grandmother passed away. The ring choses its owner and it can't be taken off. I have mine too." He showed her his right thumb.

"What does it do?" Lucia asked. It was an important item.

"The power of the bloodstone ring..." Augustus' voice trailed off. He cannot explain it vividly to Lucia.

"What power? The more you talked about it, the more I don't understand." Lucia said.

"What I can only say is that, it will not harm her. It can protect her when the time comes. She's the only one who can use that ring and no one else." Augustus said. He jus reassured Lucia about the ring as he can't go on to details.

Knowing that the ring poses no threat, Lucia didn't ask anymore questions.

"I will take a rest. You too." Lucia said and walked out from the study room.

Augustus didn't say a word. He kept thinking if he had done the right thing by giving her the bloodstone ring or not.

He pressed his forehead with his long slender fingers.

Anyway, the ring recognized her and sooner or later, she will be the one who will possess it so maybe it's the right thing to do.

He poured another glass of wine while he was lost in his thoughts.

"Run! Run! You have to save yourself! Quick! Run!!!" The woman kept shouting.

The fighting outside the bedroom intensified.

Some tried to barge in to the room but the woman held the door with her body.

"No. I will not leave you here! No!" She tried to run back towards the woman but she was held by two men.

"Save Her Majesty. Get away from here!" The woman shouted again.

"No, Your Majesty! Save your life! Please. I will hold them for you." The woman kept begging her to go.

"Alice, don't do this. How can I leave you behind?" She cried and struggled but the two men dragged her.

"Your Majesty, take care. I will still be your servant if there's a next life..." Alice said while crying.

She was dragged to the secret passage by the two men.

When she woke up, the sun was up. Louise had tears in her eyes.

"What was that?" She muttered.
