"Don't tell me you care about them," Izzy said doubtfully.
Her accusation was correct. Julian didn't care about his children. He didn't even know them. He felt sorry for them, certainly, and wanted to help beyond getting new tech in return after seeing Roz break down yesterday out of a sense of guilt and helplessness but that was the extent of it.
He had never cared about anyone and he doubted he ever would. That was why finding out he was married with a family in the future had been so baffling.
"I don't," he admitted. "I have a similar feeling of responsibility toward them, especially since I'm going to build the time machine in the first place…but Roz is a kindred spirit. She's stressed out and it got to me more than it should have.
"You're right that it's the responsibility of adults to take care of their children. I want to do right by them and get them home. I've never loved anyone and don't know if I even can but isn't it our job to try?"
