'Unreal! I'm inside Kai's mind! The conclusion would have sounded deranged under normal circumstances, but Angie's life has been anything but ordinary lately. I can feel his thoughts and emotions as though they were my own! But this is different. I feel...detached, not fully a part of his mindscape but...able to tap into it all the same.'
The strain on Angie's mind was heavy, and her stamina was beginning to tax which weakened her hold on Kai's mind. "Kai!? Can you hear me in here?" Her voice echoed through Kai's brain the energy it carried tingling, to experience, like running static through the body. "Angie? Are you okay? Open your eyes for God's sake!"
'He's starting to panic. Good, he deserves it, but now I know I can talk to him wherever here is. '
Angie began to rummage through her boyfriend's mind in the same way she'd look through her own memories. It came naturally to her only these were images she'd never seen before. They were categorized by emotion and unlocked by tapping into those feelings.
'Lots of happy memories...but why aren't I in many of them?'
The revelation brought an unbearable shame to Angie. It hadn't even occurred to her that what she was doing was a massive invasion of privacy and one she would loathe done on her.
'I should leave. Quickly! But how? Trying to switch consciousnesses is like trying to enter the fourth dimension, it just isn't comprehensible!'
Angie tried focusing on her past and experiences in a vain attempt to rip her from Kai's mind, but that it was for naught. She couldn't leave no matter how hard she pushed and fraught.
'Don't tell me this change is permanent! It can't be! I know Kai and the others have abilities, but he never told me how they got those powers. Were they kidnapped like I was? It can't be! Though I suppose...'
Angie let a poisonous thought sully her mind.
'This would be the place to find out. Is that why I am here? Is it that deep down inside I don't want to leave?'
She thought back to when she and Kai first started dating, and his powers were still an enigma to her.
"So wait, wait you are telling me you can run as fast as a car?" Angie took a sip of her drink.
"And a truck and a private jet if I really wanted to." Kai smiled as he listed off his feats on his hand. Angie rolled her eyes as she listened to this utter baloney.
"Oh really? And how do you use these special abilities of yours hmm?" Angie leaned toward Kai half-jokingly and half interested in what he might say. "My powers are kind of like an extra set of muscles. They're a part of me that doesn't do anything unless I want them to. It needs rest, food, water, and energy to survive. I guess what I'm trying to say is," Kai's expression turned severe.
"I always know what to do and when to do it. My power is instinctual, and I'll understand how to use it when the time comes."
The memory faded, and Angie knew why she always knew why. "I have to want to leave. But I don't. I have to know...what he isn't telling me!"
