After a few minutes of her not waking up, Kai had resolved to call the hospital, which is the last thing Angie wanted while she investigated these new abilities of hers. Oddly enough, she was able to pull herself out of Kai's body long enough to wake hers up and end Kai's fright.
"Angie!" Angie heaved under Kai's constricting embrace his, shirt smelling faintly of cologne. "I-I'm fine! I just passed out for a second, and I feel dizzy, so could you maybe...let go?" Kai dropped Angie and backed away his, hands held up.
"My bad! You had me worried there for a second, is all." Angie waved Kai off as she rose to her sleeping feet, deprived of circulation for the past five minutes. "Rubbish! I just got dehydrated, or maybe it's too hot in here." Kai dashed down the hallway to check the thermostat and turn on the coolant.
Angie faked a drunken walk as she walked upstairs toward the bedroom, her face in the best bibulous stupor she could rally. "Woah! Woah! Woah!" Angie feigned a slip as she noticed Kai coming up behind her adding more validity to her act. "Are you sure your alright!? You're turning pale!" Angie shuddered at her bloodless skin, the sight alone making her hazy.
'I guess this power takes a toll on my body. Use it too much, and I start getting weaker,' She surmised.
"Alright! It's off to bed for you!" Kai wouldn't have his love falling down the steps, so instead of relying on her wobbly, legs the man picked Angie off her feet and carried her to the bedroom. The man practically tossed Angie onto the bed while he dashed to the kitchen for a glass of water.
"Use the filter!" Angie futilely shouted as she sunk into the covers, eager to slip back into the world of slumber. Oddly enough, part of Angie was hoping her ability wasn't a fever dream conjured by her passing out. She really wanted to feel...validated, like all of her troubles had merited some reward.
'I know this is selfish, but I feel entitled to Kai's mind, and whatever it, is he's choosing to hide from me.' The thought brought anger to her mind.
As she shut her eyes and focused on her, thoughts it dawned on Angie that she didn't actually know how to use her powers and that it just activated out of whatever it was she was feeling. Anger? Frustration? Is that all she needs to trigger this strange phenomenon? No.
'Those emotions were all blown WAY out of proportion like a survival instinct, almost. Someone could have pumped her full of chemicals and achieved the same effect.' The evidence began to line up in Angie's head.
'Maybe that's how the power works! It gets me emotional, and then when I act on it, the ability activates.'
Angie continued to ration this line of thinking out, but a square block wouldn't fit in a circular hole. This ability of hers worked on a deeper level than base emotion. Angie could feel the currents of buzzing energy shooting through the air, and she saw the arcs like thin wire hovering in the air.
Kai's thoughts still lingered in the back of her mind playing like distorted background music that grew louder when she focused on it. There were others too, even so, most she didn't recognize, and she introduced herself via thought patterns.
DIIIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGG!!!
The horrible ringing sent shivers through Angie's entire skeleton and threatened to bleed her ears dry from pain. "What the hell was that!?" She exclaimed as she rolled toward the bathroom, the source of the offending noise.
DIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGG!!!
"Nnnggghhh!!!" Angie covered her ears to shield herself from the noise, the pain as debilitating as when she passed out. "Angie!? Hold, on I'm coming up with the water!"
'Water...that's it. That's what that is.' Even in her mind, her voice felt weak and strained.
Angie reached out toward the dripping faucet as though hoping she'd also have the power to stop its flow. The humming of the vents blowing into the room, the buzzing of energy zipping through the wall, the swishing and swashing of water as it traveled inside pipes unseen. Actually, formerly unseen as, now Angie could feel their position within the walls and underneath the floor.
"One, two, three, four, five, and that's six. There are six bolts on each node..." Why could she see these things? Why were all the small things she never noticed or even known about suddenly common knowledge? It all traces back to this ability with the mind-reading and the sudden bursts of emotion. Is this some type of sensory ability? It would explain why she felt the car coming before it had even arrived on the street but is that all there is to it? Sensory capabilities.
There's something she's missing, something that would make all of this make sense the moment it presented itself- "Got the water! Now I just need to hurry upstairs!" The voice was Kai, but the sound was not. Well, not exactly.
"Did I talk to his brain directly again? Now I get it! This ability is some type of telepathy! It lets me see the energy inside the walls and inside others." The sounds around Angie grew louder and more intense as if someone had turned up the earth's volume.
'I can hear EVERYTHING!! Like voices in the background, and they won't stop! Man, I just got these powers, and they already suck! I can't even hear my thoughts because everyone else's is so much louder! I can't live like this! If I start reading minds all the time I'll end up brooding and sulking in my room all day!'
Angie jammed her fingers inside her ears but, the noise persisted, for it was a mental block, not a physical one. Kai's hand gripped Angie's shoulder the water she requested gripped firmly in his hand. She gorged on it and regretted her decision immediately as the slimy taste reached her tongue.
"I TOLD YOU TO USE THE FILTER."
The room shook with Angie's rage, and the woman caught herself instantly, the extent of this corruption still unknown to her. "I'm sorry. I'm just a bit irritable, right-" "You have an evolution, don't you?" The question caught Angie off-guard which, only further solidified Kai's suspicions.
Angie sighed knowing, it was time to concede. "What tipped you off? The lightning or the mood swings?" Kai stroked his clean-shaven chin sinking into thought. "Definitely the lightning. Mood swings aren't that strange for you."
Angie grimaced, her eyes shining with suppressed energy rapidly rising to the surface. "Eh!? What is that supposed to mean! I am an even-tempered-" Kai folded his arms, a smug expression gluing itself to his face, his point proven. "You really are a bugger you, know that? Now tell me how to turn this power off. You know I'm off my game when I'm losing a dispute to you of, all people."
Kai grimaced as he ran his hand through his hair, trying to think of the best way to convey the news to Angie. "I'm not sure how to say this without freaking you out, but..."
Kai flashed his pearly white teeth in a half-smile. Angie knew this meant trouble.
"Angela. I don't think you can."
