Skylar's POV
Luna, Millicent, and I have been watching Cain's reactions to the kids and their reactions to him and each other. What I've gathered so far is that, in some way, they have recognized him as their father or at least someone important to them. As soon as he peered over their incubators, all crying stopped, and all four—Cain and the three babies—shared a look of awe, him to the babies and the babies to him.
After watching each other for over an hour, both he and the babies fell asleep. I know that what he did to me was wrong, but the way his eyes softened at the first sight of them made me feel sympathetic. When I go back, I'll have to leave with them. He looks at them as if they are his only reason left to live, it's... it's just like how he used to look at me before everything went wrong before he changed.
