Chereads / The Alpha's Babies / Chapter 9 - Unexpected Alliance

Chapter 9 - Unexpected Alliance

Cain's POV

It had been two long months since Clarissa kidnapped Skylar. Two months of relentless searching by the best trackers in the pack. Every time Skylar was in pain, I felt it, albeit faintly. We hadn't properly finished the mating process, but it was fortunate that I had marked her. I sighed, leaning back into my chair, contemplating the countless efforts to locate her. Just then, Carter, my delta, barged into my office.

"We got their location?" he asked.

My frown transformed into a hopeful expression upon hearing the news.

Skylar's POV

Skylar rolled on the bed, finding it hard, and then realization hit her like a ton of bricks. The discomfort was too much for her to fall back asleep. She got up with a groan, surprised to see bars surrounding her—a cage of confinement.

"So, you're finally awake, little Luna," a voice echoed from somewhere outside the cage. She turned towards the voice to see a man. He was tall, about 6'5, lean-built, with black hair and brown eyes.

"Do you know that when you smirk like that, you look totally creepy?" Skylar blurted out before she could stop herself.

Mr. Creepy chuckled and replied, "You're not the first to tell me, little Luna."

"My name is Skylar, NOT Luna," she retorted, annoyed that he was calling her by someone else's name.

"I'll make a note of that," he said. Skylar decided to inquire about his background.

"Who did you grow up with?" she asked Mr. Creepy.

Surprised by the question, he answered, "My grandmother."

"Did she not teach you manners?" Skylar questioned further. His expression changed from boredom to confusion, so she continued to explain herself.

"I introduced myself, now introduce yourself." He chuckled, looking slightly amused.

"Liam," was his short reply.

"Oh well, it's nice to meet you, Liam. Mind telling me where I am?" Skylar asked.

"No, can't do, little Lun—uhmm, Skylar," he corrected himself.

"Why not?" she inquired.

"In case you try to escape. You don't know where you are to tell your big, bad alpha mate," he replied.

"Alpha? Mate? What are you talking about?" Skylar asked, utterly confused.

"Nothing," he replied with a sigh. Suddenly, Skylar's stomach growled loudly.

"What was that?" Liam asked.

"My stomach. Looks like my jellybean is hungry," Skylar replied.

"Jellybean? What are you talking about?" he asked.

"I'm pregnant," was her simple reply.

"Shit!" Liam cursed under his breath.

"How far along are you?" he asked.

"It depends. How long have I been out?" she questioned.

"About two weeks," he replied.

"Uhmm... then that makes me two months and about two weeks or three weeks along," she said.

"Stay right there, don't move. I'll be right back," he said, walking out of sight. Skylar heard a door open and slam shut. After about five minutes, the door opened again, and Liam returned.

"Back so soon?" Skylar asked.

"No. What do you want to eat?" he inquired.

"Uhm... a salad and an orange juice," she replied.

"Is that all you want?" he asked with a knowing look.

"Can I ask for more things?" she questioned. He nodded in response, and a smile played on her lips.

"Okay, then I want... a salad, baked chicken, fried breadfruit, a cookie, a box of chocolate milk, and a big box of orange juice."

"That's all?" he asked once again. Skylar nodded, and he left.

Chapter 10: The Waiting Game

Skylar's POV

Liam returned with my food about half an hour later, a hint of exhaustion on his face.

"Do you know how far I had to go to get fried breadfruit? Where'd you get that from?" he asked.

"Well, once when I was younger, I went on a trip with my parents to Jamaica. It's an island in the Caribbean, absolutely amazing. The natives were kind and friendly, but it was HOT! Anyway, for breakfast, I decided to try something new and I chose saltfish and ackee with fried breadfruit, and it was AWESOME... so yeah," I replied.

He handed me the food and was about to exit the cage when I stopped him.

"Liam," I called.

He turned to look at me with a confused expression.

"A thanks for getting me food," I said, holding out the cookie and a box of chocolate milk.

I don't know exactly how long I've been in this cage, but according to my strokes on the wall, it's been about two months. In this time, I've met four wonderful new friends: Harris, Elliot, Liam, and Parker.

I met the other three a couple of weeks after meeting Liam. They were assigned to guard my cage. Each of them had different personalities, but they were all really kind to me. Harris was the fashionista, Elliot the jovial one, Liam the serious one, and Parker the mother hen, always worrying.

"Owww, Oww. It hurts," I cried as I felt another pain in my stomach.

This has been happening since the day I asked Liam to get food for me. I thought it stopped happening, but it resurfaced that day. They used to happen when I moved to live in Chicago for a modeling job with Mariah... Mariah, she must be worried sick. How could I have forgotten about Mariah? Shimata! My aunt, they must be worried sick.

"You okay?" Parker asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine, just another one. It'll pass soon," I replied.

I felt someone rubbing my back; I looked back to see Liam. He gave me an "it's okay" smile. I couldn't help but return the smile.

When the pain passed, I asked the boys something that's been on my mind since the first day I woke up.

"Liam, remember when I first woke up, and you were calling me Luna?" I asked.

He nodded in response.

"Why?"

"Because you are," he replied.

"What is a Luna?" I asked.

"An alpha's mate," he replied.

"What's an alpha?" I inquired.

"The pack leader," came his reply.

"A pack of what?" I asked again, still confused.

"He's the alpha of a pack of... cards? So, he's like the ace in the pack or the king," I thought to myself.

"Werewolves."

"Oh, are you guys werewolves?"

"Yup."

"Can you transform for me to see, all of you?"

They didn't reply; I just heard some sounds of bones being broken, I looked at the boys, and fur was coming through their skin. In the blink of an eye, I saw four huge wolves in front of me.

Harris's wolf was black like his hair, as were the others. Elliot was brown, Liam was brown with blonde streaks, and Parker was blonde.

Each of them took cautious steps toward me. They must have thought I was afraid, but I wasn't. I knew they wouldn't hurt me. I nodded, and they took that as a sign to come to me. They all came and rubbed their noses on me. I let out a short shriek because of how cold it was.

Realization hit me like a ton of bricks; if I'm the supposed Luna, that makes Cain the alpha and a werewolf. I looked down at my growing stomach. My baby is going to be a werewolf, and this is so cool. Let's just hope he or she takes after me instead of Cain.
