Skylar's POV
Liam returned with my food about half an hour later, a hint of exhaustion on his face.
"Do you know how far I had to go to get fried breadfruit? Where'd you get that from?" he asked.
"Well, once when I was younger, I went on a trip with my parents to Jamaica. It's an island in the Caribbean, absolutely amazing. The natives were kind and friendly, but it was HOT! Anyway, for breakfast, I decided to try something new and I chose saltfish and ackee with fried breadfruit, and it was AWESOME... so yeah," I replied.
He handed me the food and was about to exit the cage when I stopped him.
"Liam," I called.
He turned to look at me with a confused expression.
"A thanks for getting me food," I said, holding out the cookie and a box of chocolate milk.
I don't know exactly how long I've been in this cage, but according to my strokes on the wall, it's been about two months. In this time, I've met four wonderful new friends: Harris, Elliot, Liam, and Parker.
As I got to know the trio guarding my cage, their distinct personalities became apparent. Harris, with his sharp sense of style, would often bring me little fashion magazines and discuss the latest trends during our brief interactions.
Elliot, the jovial spirit, would crack jokes and share amusing stories of childhood mischief, injecting a dose of laughter into the otherwise somber environment. His light-hearted banter offered a temporary escape from the harsh reality.
Liam, in stark contrast, carried an air of seriousness. He would silently observe, his focus unwavering. It felt like he was constantly assessing the situation, ensuring my safety with vigilant determination.
And then there was Parker, the nurturing soul among them. Always checking on me, he'd bring extra blankets when the nights grew cold and share stories to distract from the confinement. His caring nature turned the cage into a slightly more bearable space.
In those weeks, our conversations ranged from fashion trends and humorous anecdotes to serious discussions about life beyond the cage. Despite the circumstances, their kindness and diverse personalities became a silver lining in my confined world.
"Owww, Oww. It hurts," I cried as I felt another pain in my stomach.
This has been happening since the day I asked Liam to get food for me. I thought it stopped happening, but it resurfaced that day. They used to happen when I moved to live in Chicago for a modeling job with Mariah... Mariah, she must be worried sick. How could I have forgotten about Mariah? Aunt Cassidy, they must be worried sick.
"You okay?" Parker asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine, just another one. It'll pass soon," I replied.
I felt someone rubbing my back; I looked back to see Liam. He gave me warm smile. I couldn't help but return the smile.
When the pain passed, I asked the boys something that's been on my mind since the first day I woke up.
"Liam, remember when I first woke up, and you were calling me Luna?" I asked.
He nodded in response.
"Why?"
"Because you are," he replied.
"What is a Luna?" I asked.
"An alpha's mate," he replied.
"What's an alpha?" I inquired.
"The pack leader," came his reply.
"A pack of what?" I asked again, still confused.
"He's the alpha of a pack of... cards? So, he's like the ace in the pack or the king," I thought to myself.
"Werewolves."
"Oh, are you guys werewolves?"
"Yup."
"Can you transform for me to see, all of you?"
They didn't reply; I just heard some sounds of bones being broken, and I looked at the boys, and fur was coming through their skin. In the blink of an eye, I saw four huge wolves in front of me.
Harris's wolf was black like his hair, as were the others. Elliot was brown, Liam was brown with blonde streaks, and Parker was blonde.
Each of them took cautious steps towards me. They must have thought I was afraid, but I wasn't. I knew they wouldn't hurt me. I nodded, and they took that as a sign to come to me. They all came and rubbed their noses on me. I let out a short shriek because of how cold it was.
Realization hit me like a ton of bricks; if I'm the supposed Luna, that makes Cain the alpha and a werewolf. I looked down at my growing stomach. My baby is going to be a werewolf, and this is so cool. Let's just hope he or she takes after me instead of Cain.
