Merpati Department Store was very busy Saturday afternoon. Yuana ended up working overtime because she needed additional manpower. But she was happy to work longer hours because there was nothing she would do in the boarding house.
"Yuana, right?" a voice startled Yuana. He was familiar with the voice. Yuana turned to the woman who called out to her. Niar!!
"Sorry, Ma'am. You're in the wrong person." Yuana left the place for another shelf. Yuana's feeling said something bad would happen if Niar appeared.
"Hey ... I can't be wrong." Niar chased Yuana. She stepped faster and stopped in front of Yuana. She saw the name tag on Yuana's left chest. Flora was listed.
"Flora?" Niar looked carefully at Yuana who pretended to be busy with the shoe rack in front of her.
"You're not Yuana. Really?" Now Niar pulled Yuana's hand, forcing Yuana to face her.
"No, sorry," said Yuana. She tried to calm down, even though her heart was growing uncomfortably.
Niar swiftly grabbed Yuana's chin and looked at her face.
"Don't bother me, Miss. I'm at work." Yuana brushed off Niar's hand.
"I can't be wrong." Niar laughed. "I can be sure there are similar people in this world. But with a mole in exactly the same place, no way. You can't fool me."
Yuana left.
"Hey, how is Bobby? Manfred is already famous, huh ... I thought you'd be hanging around between the two boys. Why are you in this place? So, a waitress at the mall?" Niar looked at Yuana with a mocking look.
"Please, I am still working. Please …," said Yuana firmly.
"Okay. It's not important to take care of difficult people," said Niar. "Ehmm, I took these things. Tell your boss, his nephew took some clothes. Okay?" Niar took a plastic bag and walked away.
Yuana said nothing. Turning out, Niar was Pak Baskara's nephew. Oh, why was life playing with Yuana? She met the bad girl, Niar, again.
"Yu, wait a minute!" Niar back. "I think the three sets are still incomplete. While I'm playing here, can you get the red dress?" Niar pointed to the three rows of hangers in front of them.
"Take it yourself. I'm still busy," answered Yuana, reluctant to serve Niar.
"Hey, you're not being polite! So, the waiter knows himself, right? The customer is the king. Do you know how to work, anyway?" Niar deliberately raised her voice. Several customers and waiters around them immediately noticed.
"Sorry," said Yuana curtly. No regrets, just not wanting to argue.
"If you work like this, I can report you to your leader. We'll see what he will do to you," Niar threatened.
Yuana stood up without saying anything. It was a shame to be treated like that. Turning out her feeling was right. There must be a problem if Niar was nearby.
Niar left from there. Two other servant friends approached her.
"Are you okay?" asked Listi.
"Little shocked. But it's okay," said Yuana, smiling a little.
"The boss's nephew is the most annoying. He wants to be on his own. It's not just you who he has treated rudely. Hopefully, he doesn't really report to the boss," said Erin.
Yuan swallowed her saliva. If she got summoned, then how would she be fired? Oh, why did she have to meet Niar? Why did she have to meet her in the mall in a very large area of Jakarta?
*****
The next day, around eleven o'clock Yuana was called to Mr. Baskara's office.
"Flora, what's wrong? Why was the leader called?" asked Lestari. She was quite surprised when one of the supervisors told her that.
"I do not know." Yuana shrugged her shoulders. She headed for Mr. Baskara's office.
In the room, Mr. Baskara was sitting in the director's chair. Then there were Niar and Ivan on chairs not far from Mr. Baskara's table. Immediately Yuana understood that Niar's last threat was no joke. Yuana's heart began to greet. She had to face the boss because of Niar. What did that clumsy girl say to the boss about Yuana?
"Sit down, Flora," said Mr. Baskara kindly. He smiled loosely.
"Her name is Yuana, Uncle," said Niar quickly with a displeased look.
No! Niar complained about Yuana's identity. It could be tricky!
"Just keep silent," said Mr. Baskara.
"Thank you, sir." Yuana sat in the chair in front of Baskara's desk.
"Flora, Niar said that you were his schoolmate in middle and high school. Is that true?" asked Mr. Baskara. His voice was calm, there was no accusation. Really just asking.
Yuana took a deep breath. She couldn't run anymore. There was no point in denying it. Yuana glanced at Niar who smiled sarcastically.
"Right, sir," Yuana replied with a feeling of discomfort growing in her heart.
"But what she remembers your name is Yuana. Not Florantian. Which is correct?" Calm but firm Mr. Baskara asked.
"Flora ...," answered Yuana.
"Still dare to deny? She's lying. This girl isn't right, why are you being given a job here??" Niar's voice grew harsher.
"Watch your mouth, Niar!" snapped Ivan.
Yuana clasped her fingers together. She was restless. The situation grew tense in the room. She didn't know what the purpose of Ivan seemed to be defending Yuana.
"Why are you defending him instead, Van. It's clear that his behavior is not right ...."
"Hey, it seems like you're the most right! You want to talk, it's great!" Ivan got angry.
"You guys, get out of the room immediately. I'd better talk to Flora alone," said Mr. Baskara. An authoritative voice rang out from his words.
"Okay, Dad. But please, let Flora keep working here." Ivan pleaded with his father.
"Uncle, please believe me," said Niar, still curtly.
The two of them left the room. Yuana was a little relieved, even though her business wasn't finished.
"Flora, now it's just you and me in this room. You can rest easy now," said Baskara. Again, his tone was softer.
"Story??" Yuana was a bit confused.
"I know what Niar said is true. But what happened?" Baskara looked at Yuana. He studied the beautiful face of the girl in front of him.
During these years Yuana was a very good and diligent employee. Baskara remembered that the girl applied for a job without an identity, but she showed great dedication. She was smart and passionate. Yuana couldn't hide for no reason. It was what Baskara wanted to know.
"Tell the truth, I will not fire you," said Baskara again. He assured Yuana that the identity issue would not have anything to do with work.
Yuana sighed. She had to speak this time, as it was.
"I am Yuana, sir. My name is Yuana Ferantian. When I went to Jakarta, I deliberately changed my identity to Florantian. My life as Yuana was destroyed. It was useless, there was only pain and wounds." Yuana shakily told her story. She lowered her head, a hint of embarrassment at the edge of her heart.
So long she had kept it, she could no longer hide.
"I want to be a new person. Starting new things. And Flora, discovered a different world. Simple, but all is well for her." she continued.
"Are you disappointed with your life?" The question gently hit Yuana's heart. Again, not an accusation, nor a judgment, but like a father wanting to understand his daughter.
"Yes, so much. Too complicated, sir. I'm tired of Yuana." Yuana slowly said it was also the turmoil that was inside her.
Baskara looked at Yuana, trying to understand what Yuana was saying. The girl's eyes glazed over.
"I'm trying to understand what you are going through and feeling. But running and hiding are not the way out. You know very well that you are Yuana. Only your name is different. Your character, your pain, your disappointment, are still the same. You just cover it up, you get rid of it, but never lost," said Baskara.
Yuana lowered her head deeper. What Baskara said was true. Deep down in her heart, she was still Yuana. She forced herself to be someone else, running from reality and the life he had to live.
