"Dear holy gods, I ask for the power of wind. The breeze mightier than a hurricane. Lift the world with its sheer power and send it afloat. I ask for a gust of wind!" Amelia chanted quickly. She wasted no time on this duel as a burst of wind flew right out of her staff. I could feel the flow of air flap my cloak and slowly drag me back. What the hell was this girl? There's no way this is an intermediate spell! And she was able to shorten the spell like Tera, what a talented girl!
I quickly tapped my staff on the ground, imagining a wall made of earth. My earth spell was a beginner one, but if I put enough mana into it…it should hold…maybe. I'd rather be behind a wall than take a full force wind blast. Then, a chunk of the floor erupted upwards, violently standing up and covering my front. This was my fortress, this was my defense!
If I recall from Tera, Mages can only use one spell at a time when it comes to specific ones. But Amelia had already shot her spell, which meant she was going to hurl another one. Well what else can she do besides wi-
A blast of air hit my earth wall, seemingly bursting and breaking my wall into pieces. And it even continued onwards, the gust of wind flurried and blared as it pushed me backwards. I tumbled back, having my cloak cover my face. I held my hands up, ensuring that any pieces of the earth spell didn't hit me, I could hear the spell ripping it apart. I quickly flipped my cloak to look at the Blue haired girl, who smirked at me.
Alright, what the hell? Wind spells are overpowered? Or was she overpowered?
She continued on with chanting another spell. "Dear holy gods, May the wind twirl and make chaos! With the might of the earth and wind.Tornado!"
T-t-tornado? I saw at the end of her staff a large gust of wind be produced. It seemed like she was straining from using it as she started shaking her hands while casting it, sweat glistened her face as she struggled to form what seemed to be a tornado of sorts. A very large tornado in the circle we were in.
"Quick, Travis! Don't just stand there! Cast a spell!" I thought to myself as I quickly got back to my feet. If there was any sort of way to disrupt a spell, what'd be the best way?
"Aim for her feet!" I turned around to look where the voice was, outside of the circle was Sura who had her notebook opened. "Disrupt her footing and she'll stop casting the wind spell."
"Nice observation, Nerd!" Griffin patted her back, causing her to stumble forward a bit. "But I think Kota already had that figured out!"
"Hit my back again, and I'll crush your head with my feet!" Sura barked back at Griffin. The two continued to argue in the background as I started to focus back onto the duel.
Ok, hearing what Sura advice was and not…whatever squabble they were having, I imagined the floor sinking and casted Quicksand. The floor beneath one of Amelia's feet quickly turned into a liquid state, causing her to wobble and look down.
"H-hey! That's cheating! Grr!" Somehow she still managed to keep a stable footing, which let her cast the Tornado spell. The spell shot out and a somewhat lackluster sized tornado formed. Suddenly, I could feel myself being dragged closer to it as it drew near.
Now it was small, like small for a normal sized person. It seemed my interference had made it smaller. But it was still big enough to somehow crag me closer into it. Soon enough, I found myself floating around it.
"How the hell does this thing carry me!?" I questioned as I twirled around the Tornado.
I felt like I was going to puke as I seemingly spun about five feet above the ground. I couldn't control where I was going or what to look at.
"Haha! Take that! Spin!" I heard Amelia yell.
Oh, I could feel a throw up coming…is it bad that I thought this was worse than fighting an ogre? At least I managed to beat it. I'm letting This girl somehow spin me around in the air as she is most likely laughing about it.
Fuck, if only I was just heavier! Maybe I'd be able to stay on the ground!…wait, I can use Earth spells! I think!
I held out my staff in front of me, closing my eyes. I couldn't focus with all this damn spinning! I tried to imagine rocks forming over my feet. I could feel the mana being drained from me as suddenly, the motion of spinning stopped as I seemingly dropped down immediately. Luckily I landed on my side as I slid across the floor for a bi, which had a scraping noise to it.
"H-hey! How'd you do that? You couldn't have escaped my tornado!" I opened my eyes to see Amelia confusingly looking at me on the floor. The tornado she made didn't even seem to affect her at all, only making her dress flap around dangerously. She was also hugging quite a lot
"Ah-I'm not telling you anything!" I said as I struggled to get up, the rocks that weighed me down were wrapped around my feet quite tight. "Also, a tornado?!"
She looked at the spell she had casted, which was slowly slowing down. It seemed she couldn't maintain it for a while. She then shrugged and held her staff out again. "What? Scared of some intermediate mage beating you?" She laughed as she said that, but I could notice she was sweating. Did she already hit her limits? Not sure how much mana someone normally gets. But looking at Amelia tells me it's not much.
"You look a little tired! Ugh, T-that spell took a lot out of you, huh?" I said while struggling to get up.
"Well, I still have a lot in me! Gah, damn rocks…"
"What?! I mean, no way!" She quickly said. She took a step back as I finally got up. Soon, the Tornado had fully dissipated. And now that I'm noticing it, Many people are still watching us. Slightly bigger than what it was before, it was still a lot. Griffin and sura Stood outside the magic circle, watching with intrigue.
"Alright, now that your spells are out. My turn." I dispelled my earth spell, feeling the rocks crumble away from my feet. "Sort of hoping that dress isn't just a normal one." I held my staff tightly as I aimed it at her.
"What do you mean? You got more tricks up your sleeeaa-aagh!!" When she started talking, I casted a earth spell. Watching as the floor cracked and rumbled, hastily making its way to her before erupting. Then all I saw was a blur as Amelia flew up in the air.
Good thinking, Travis! Now she's up in the air, what now?
…
No, wait! She's up in the air! What the fuck was I thinking? I don't know if any spells are able to stop fall damage? I scratched my head as Amelia started to slowly descend down. But luckily, I noticed she was actually floating down slowly. As I squinted my eyes, I noticed that her dress was sparkling with a shimmer of rainbow. So this is Magic cloaking, I could tell Amelia was struggling to stabilize herself as I assumed she was fully concentrating on her magic cloak.
I guess I was staring too long as Amelia looked down with an embarrassed look, Pushing her dress skirt down to conceal her legs. "W-what are you looking at! You pervert!"
Ignoring her, I began to think about the next Spell I would cast. What spell would catch this girl by surprise? I have a feeling once she lands down, she'd be exhausted from using her mana. I've rarely used any Water spells as of recently…
Then I heard a tap of shoes as Amelia stumbled onto the floor, she wobbled for a moment before falling onto her butt. She was sweating and breathing heavily as she had finally exhausted herself from majoring the magic cloak.
"Huff…huff…come on, Pervert! Do something!" She said exhausted.
I looked around for this pervert for a moment, dumbfounded. Who's this pervert? The only two people in this magic circle are me and this Blue haired Girl.
"I don't see anyone. Look, it's clear you don't have enough mana that's as big as mine. Let's call it quits and say I won." I said looking back at her. "I really don't wanna fight you."
Amelia looked at me and scoffed. "I wouldn't wanna fight me too."
Ok, why is she like this? How stubborn is this girl?
I sighed, and decided to cast JetFire. Aiming it upwards to not harm anyone. I felt the mana being drained from me as the tip of my staff glowed with heat. Amelia watched as she struggled to stand up, her eyes widening as a sporadic ball of flames emanated from my staff.
"Ok, I'll show you this spell. I used it on the Desmond boys. Believe me now?" I said.
Finally, I casted the spell. The ball of flames morphing before suddenly spewing flames, shooting up towards the ceiling with incredible speed. It even managed to hit the Barrier that was made from the magic circle. My staff roared as the flames continued on, it's heat being felt across the whole room.
I could see Amelia's shocked face as she tried to cover her face from the immense heat, maybe I've gotten to her now…
Slowly, the Flames emanating died down until all there was a bit of flames spewing out. I looked at the top of the ceiling, noticing the charred barrier slowly regenerating itself. Chips of burnt pieces of the barrier fell off and dissipated, it was quite cool to look at.
"Yo, Kota! That was impressive!" I heard Griffin yell, I turned towards him and saw Him and Sura standing next to each other. Sura was jotting things down in her notebook that she had. Perhaps she was making more notes of the spells I've made, I should probably ask her at some point of all the reasoning of the research…
"H-h-huh?! Hello?! You did all that?!" I turned back to Amelia who finally said something, she was back on her butt. "No way! That was like…Intermediate-No, like King ranked magic! How?!" I guess she couldn't fathom what she witnessed.
Looking around at the crowd that had watched on, most of the students' faces seemed surprised or shocked. I even saw some teachers as well, who gawked at me. I know there's other students amongst that crowd who could probably do what I did, but they were probably still impressed that a six year old could do this. I couldn't see Tera within the crowd though, she was most likely in her classroom still.
I turned back to Amelia, holding my hand out. "Alright, you saw what I could do. Happy? Now hurry up, I don't like it when people….stare…" I trailed off as I noticed she looked at me embarrassed, almost looking like she was on the verge of tearing up.
She looked down, before bursting out in a panicked voice. "I-I-I refuse to hold hands with a pervert like you! Y-you may have some decent skills, and maybe you did beat those boys…"she quietly said that last part. " But I won't shake hands with the boy who just beat me! I promise I'll come back and beat you someh-Huh?" She stopped her sentence when I firmly gripped her hand for a handshake.
"Alright, you're making a scene." I awkwardly said. I have no idea what this girl's problems are, she's coming off as if she's able to be my rival. In all honesty, it was Lilith who was more capable of that title than this girl.
Amelia didn't move. In fact, she just looked at her hand that was in my palms. Just staring and slowly turning even more red, her lips quivering.
Wait…we're still awkwardly shaking hands. This might be too awkward for her.
"Are you ok, Amelia?" I asked cautiously. Amelia immediately snapped out of whatever she was in, yanking her hand away from me and frantically touching it.
"I'm….I-I'm leaving! A-and you better watch your back!…Kota…" Amelia wobbled back to her feet and quickly grabbed her school uniform, making her way out of the magic circle where people moved out of her way.
Amelia took one last look back at me, almost looking like she wanted to say something before leaving. But she shook her head frantically and stormed out of the exam room.
I still stood in the magic circle. Looking a little confused by her response. She never touched a boy's hand before? The thought never came to me when I touched her hand. I instinctively looked at my hand and realized what I did and blushed a bit. I don't think Lilith Would appreciate that.
Then I heard a round of applause from everyone, which took me off guard. It started slow, but then gradually grew as everyone started cheering in the room.
"Kota!" I heard people chant. That gave me a weird feeling as I don't think I've ever had anyone do that before in my life or past life. And it was further confirmed when everyone started coming into the magic circle. "Kota! The Prodigy!" Everyone kept chanting now.
Griffin and Sura also ran towards me, smiling. The two being here gave me a bit of relief as the amount of the people looking at me was giving me anxiety. These two are my life savers right now!
"Wow, impressive of you!" Sura said, her face was exploding with excitement as she smiled at her notes. "That JetFire spell was even more powerful than the one you used on the Desmond boys! And smart thinking with the rocks on your feet! Normally one would use their magic cloak to mitigate damage, but you managed to not!"
"Yeah, dude you were great! You showed that girl!" Griffin slapped my back as he said that, but looked around at the crowd for a moment. "Hey, didn't you think people would leave us alone? Cause it seems like you've gotten even more popular…"
The more I thought of it, the more I realized he was correct as these people would tell everyone else what they saw…and then more people would come and ask me about my magic. I shook my head in dismay at the thought. I mean, I could ignore it as much as possible. But it'll probably get to Tera and everyone else that I hang out with.
As the crowd started to swarm us, I was pretty sure that they'd bombard me with compliments or questions.
"Kota, it's getting a little heated with these people!" Sura hastily said. "I'd rather not be swarmed right now!" She quickly grabbed mine and Griffin's hands as she stormed past everyone, pushing and shoving them. I did not expect Sura to be that strong.
Griffin seemed taken surprised by her actions, blushing as he looked at his hand being held before looking at me. "She made a move…"
"She's probably doing this because we all don't like attention like this!" I said, I looked back and saw the group of people looking at us. They didn't follow, only waved at us and watched.
As we walked out of the exam room, I noticed Gorwin was already looking towards the door with interest. He must've heard what was happening in the room and kept an eye on it. Are duels frequent here in the university? Probably not. If it was, I'd assume the university would have some sort of contest or club for it.
"Kids! I saw that Blue haired girl walk out after all that commotion. Is everything alright?" He asked, curiously.
Sura answered for us, seemingly sounding like she was in a hurry. As she told what happened, she slowly started to slow down and then suddenly, she was calm again.
"Sura, what's with you?" Griffin asked, still having his hand holded. "You looked all tense at first and now your…back to normal?"
"Sorry…I just couldn't take being in a room with that many people…made it hard to breathe…" she said in dismay. "Apologies, and Stop holding my hand!" She slapped Griffin's hand away.
"Interesting…well, I would love to continue our chat." Gorwin kindly said. "But it seems lunch time will end shortly, however I did see that young girl leave through the front doors."
"You mean she has no classes after lunch?" I asked curiously.
"Yes, as she only does Intermediate wind class and alchemy classes."
"I see." As I said that, a bell rang. Which signaled that Lunchtime had finished.
"Ah, the bell has rung. Let's hope this…event doesn't get out of hand. But I'll say, You are growing into quite a unique student, kota. Now run along you three. Classes are starting." Gorwin then gave us a wave.
