The City Of Machines

Dragging and droning the sounds of the outside spanned onwards into the night as they did ever since the curfew had begun. Shallow screams were disrupted with the heavy clanking of machinery, which my ears had ever been accustomed to. There was no denying the fate that would befall the body behind the screams, but then again, there was no telling what fate awaited any of us. The sounds halted momentarily, and the great ticking was audible once more. It had not stopped since I set foot into this city of flame and metal. My burner-lights flickered on and off, the wick slowly fizzling out into a heap of black. Darkness surrounded my eyes slowly and the repetitive ticking lulled me to sleep for another night…
