The curfew was well underway, but my mask did not remove itself as it usually would. Head heavy, I stood and moved to the door, the ticking completely offbeat with my footsteps. It seemed much more random, the pulsations lasting longer and then abruptly cutting short. The whirring of machines about the city was not enough to drown out my increasing levels of stress. A flood of light shot through the gap in the door as I peeled it open to reveal the world at night. The Series Skyscrapers shone against the black backdrop of the starless sky; the foreground saturated in artificial lights. Their gold plating reflected the spotlights at exact altitudes on each building. The throbbing pain in my ears was now accompanied by the visually blinding and endless brightness of city. Through my squinting, mover-machines which I had spent many days building chugged along the Great Gold Bridges and below, cleaning machines swept and scrubbed the under-streets. Though I was overly nervous about my sudden retirement, my curiosity was fully sated in seeing the very creations wrought by my hands performing their duties to the city. The city was devoid of any human life, all the workers living secret lives without their protectors in their respective homes. Now that I had seen the magnificence of the machines it was better off that no one was allowed to break curfew. My heart wished for this sight to be endless and untainted, for the workers to never leave, for the night do drag on longer than the sounds in my head. I had not noticed however, that the ticking was now accompanied by a symphony of sirens. My ears pricked to the direction of their source. The most stunning tower in the whole of Ignis. The place that was The Chamber.
