CHAPTER 28: NEW SINGLE LIFE MOVING ON MY OWN

-

Who in the world would hire a pregnant woman near the end of the term? How stupid of me to move out with my savings and now I'm back at my parents' place empty-handed. How pitiful!

I wanted to prove everyone wrong that doubted me anyone could make it in the city. Even me, a country girl that came from a small village.

I can't imagine the disappointment that my parents must feel

Especially being the youngest with higher expectations.

All I wanted was to accomplish the impossible after getting heartbroken.

My best friend, Si-woo stole my first love Han Gyeol from me and again, my fiancée.

Thinking about the circumstances brought great pain to her fragile heart.

She inhales.

"The more I want to forget something the more I remember."

Choon Hee crossed the street and checked the time on her phone. The interview at the convenience store was just fifteen minutes away and she was right on time.

She heard a desperate cry from within the crowd and a young boy was crossing the street unsupervised.

There were many adults crossing not paying the boy any attention.

It wouldn't hurt to do one good deem before the interview

"Hi, there! Are you lost? Do you need help finding your parents?" She approached him and asked kindly.

For a moment the boy stops crying to look at the woman in front of him." I can't find my mommy." He said and shortly after started crying again.

"Don't cry, I promise that I will help you find your mother! – I have an idea where is the last place that you see her?"

He tilted his head to the side in confusion with his hand on his chin." The Park? Wait no! Ice cream shop? That can't be right either. "

"Where is the last place you and your mother were together?"

"I don't remember."

Oh boy...

Sweat dripped from her forehead knowing that she will miss her interview.

"Are you going to leave me, too?"

There must have got a few people that offered their assistance and then stop. It's sad how people leave to continue with their lives hoping that the mother would return. How cruel! Who could turn their back on such a hopeless child?

It infuriated her to think about the children's father's side and hid the pain behind a sincere smile.

"How could I?"

In three hours of retracing the boys' steps, Choon Hee reunited the little 5-year-old boy with his mother that desperately search for him at the corner of the convenience store.

"How many times must I tell you not to wander off." She scolds, then turned her towards Choon Hee and wanted to express her gratitude." How could I ever repay you?"

Choon Hee was embarrassed to make such a selfish request and take advantage of this mother's kindness.

"Do you know any local places that are hiring? I'm desperately in need of a job." She asked, lowering her eyes ashamed.

There's no way.

"You know what, we're hiring at the care center-- How would you like to have a position there?

Since Choon Hee near the last semester of her pregnancy a clerk specialist, a receptionist, a bookkeeper, and customer service representation all in one.

The company is a small business that takes care of children and provided different activities. There's a library and everyone is very friendly. The center has provided high-quality childcare programs. It's a home-like atmosphere filled with warmth and a part of the family.

" Thank you so much for the opportunity to work with you – I promised that you won't regret it."

It paid well

Choon Hee searched online for infant onesies and diapers the thought of holding them and seeing her own children for the first time made applying for an apartment bearable.

In the morning, she helped at the market and assisted with chores on the farm. During t

Incoming call

"Hello, are you Ms. Kim? You put an application a month ago and there's a united available by the end of the week." The receiver said, in a very nice and welcoming tone.

It's cheap and affordable.

"Thank you, mother and father, for allowing me to stay." Choon Hee handed them an envelope from her paycheck.

"It was nice spending time with you but if you ever decided to give her child away for adoption and accept that kind offer of a hundred thousand dollars--- that would be the smart thing.

She gave them a bow and a sweet smile. She did not say anything and then climbed into the taxi with her suitcase.

She looked out the window at her parents and slightly waved then frown.

It would only be a matter of time before they spread the rumors about her to the family and she will be looked down upon.

She held the handle of her luggage as the wheels rolled into the office.

"Are you Kang Choon Hee?" The receptionist asked and was taken aback. Her eyes widen staring at the Choon Hee's stomach uncomfortable." You look like you're about to explode. Are you expecting a boy or girl?"

"Both, I'm pregnant with twins. May I please have the keys to the apartment? I'm very tired."

"I'm so sorry." She apologized

Its apartment was furnished with poor-quality furniture with burn marks or holds. The wooden floor creeks with each step while the light on the ceiling flickered. It's a one-bedroom apartment. The bedroom was really cramped and small. It was only space for a mattress. The wallpaper was peeling off and the structure was poorly designed. It was missing chairs at the table and multiple legs were broken.

Will this be enough room?

"How do you like that place? "Asked the lady.

Silence.

"It's not what I expected." She answered, and sighed.

Please forgive me

I swear I won't sleep with her again

Where are you? I stopped at your parents, and they said that you move out on your own

I miss you and love you so much, sweetheart.

What I had with Si-woo was a mistake, I never realized that I would miss you this much.

Please come back to my life and I promise that I would do better! I won't pressure you to sleep with me or hit you anymore. I can't live without you! You are the love of my life and I'm willing to do anything.

Please respond to me

I want to marry you

What's your address I'll drive up to you? I want to talk with you.

The dead-beat bastard: Can you at least hear me out? That's all I'm asking.
