Chereads / Building a crime empire / Chapter 12 - Reason

Chapter 12 - Reason

"Albert, I... we were all victims here!" Sarah paused, wiping her tear stained eyes for a moment, before continuing, "I-I didn't know!" I stared at her as she practically cried in front of me.

"I don't need your sorry.... and your pity." I shrugged her off as I looked back in front of me.

"We all made mistakes here." Sarah added.

Here we go again, I hate it when people blame themselves for no reason.

Especially when people just accepts their fate like that.

It just pisses me off.

"I understand" I said.

"Huh?" I hear Sarah say in confusion.

"Past is past, we should forget our past mistakes and move forward, *cough*, make sure we never repeat our old mistakes again." I paused as I adjusted myself slightly in my seat, before continuing, "And not standing up to your abusers, *cough*, and being weak is a mistake, in my opinion." I said, looking back at her again.

She lowered her head and stayed silent at my words, not saying anything.

"Let me get this straight, if there is someone to blame, it is Jamie and his friends, *cough*, not us." I added.

Looking through the vehicle's window on my left, I can finally see Kevin walking towards us with a bag of newly bought items.

"He's coming." Sarah said.

I nod my head at her as I continued to watch Kevin get closer and closer.

After a few dozens seconds, he finally arrived at our vehicle, opening the door, he got inside and immediately unpacked the bag he had with him.

"Here" Kevin said as he offered an ice pack and a few painkiller pills to Sarah.

"Thanks" she responded as she started to apply the ice and painkillers on the sleeping Christian.

"And as for you." Kevin turned towards me.

He pulled out an ice pack and a few painkiller pills and handed it to me.

What a nice friend to have.

"Fix yourself" Kevin said before starting the pick-up truck again and began to drive it.

Immediately gulping the few painkiller pills given to me, I began applying the ice packs on the swelling parts of my body.

Ouch! it f*cking stings!

It's going to take a long time before my whole body heals.

"So who should I drop first?" Kevin asked, his eyes glued on the road in front of us.

"Me! I think I'm going to die if I can't get myself a good sleep." I immediately called out.

I think I just saw a glimpse of Sarah about to say something until I interrupted her, oh well.

"Alright" Kevin said.

The whole ride was quiet and uneventful, not even a word said between the three of us, not including the sleeping Christian.

The awkwardness... it's making my pain much more worse.

Passing West Boulevard street, we finally stopped in front of my apartment building.

"Alright" I said as I slowly carry myself up from the vehicle's seat.

"Need help?" Kevin asked.

Glancing towards the sleeping Christian and the ever quiet Sarah, I shook my head.

"I can do this, thank you." I said as I finally managed to hopped off from the vehicle.

Damn you Albert, stop acting tough and let Kevin help you!

"You sure?" Kevin asked.

Limping towards the apartment's main entrance, I turned my head towards Kevin and spoke.

"Who do you think you're talking to?" I smiled at Kevin.

"Yeah, oh by the way, tell Anna I said hi." I can see Sarah at the back of the vehicle perked up at Kevin's words, her face full of worry and sadness.

At that, the image of Anna in a certain picture suddenly flashed inside my mind.

Ah f*ck, not again!

Shaking those thoughts away, I looked back at my friends before me again.

"Alright, we're going now." Kevin said.

"Okay, take care!" I waved at them as their vehicle began to speed down the road.

"You too!" I heard Kevin yell in the distance as their vehicle got farther and farther away until my eyes can no longer see them.

Sighing, I began too make my way inside the building.

"Sir, are you okay?!" I suddenly heard the receptionist yell behind the desk once I stepped inside.

Turning towards him, I can see him eyeing me as I limp towards the hallway.

"Fell down the stairs in the subway." I merely told him as I continued on my way.

"But-" I cut him off.

"I said I'm fine!" I yelled at him, shutting him up for good.

Leaving the lobby, I began to limp down the hallway.

Ah f*ck, maybe I should've just swallowed my pride and let them help me.

Still clutching my swelling side, I began to regret my actions and outbursts earlier.

Walking down the hall, I can hear voices behind the closed doors as I passed each one of them.

Not only that, one of them, I can hear.... moans? inside.

I think I just lost my faith on the word 'privacy' here in this apartment building, shit's not even soundproof.

After a minute of walking, I finally made it in front of my room.

Twisting the handle, I creaked the door open and stepped inside.

Glancing at every corner, I can see that my sister is still in their school, yet to know about what really happened in my school.

If you're wondering, my sister's twenty and she's on college, studying political science in some university a few kilometers away from our school.

Checking the clock, I saw it's already 2pm.

Sh*t, got to clean myself up.

I wonder if our school is still having classes right now.

Of course not! that was a full violent riot I just started right there, not only that, the numbers of injured students are possibly high, so high that the media will probably do anything just to get a good story about what really happened.

And after that, there will be traces, traces that will possibly lead to me.

Oh sh*t....

Of course the one who really started the mess was Jamie and his gang in the first place, but the act I did just there wasn't an act of self defense, but was in fact, a retaliation driven by vengeance and rage.

There will be witnesses, but it was not going to be enough.

Surely, Jamie and his gang would probably receive a heavy punishment, but so am I, guilty of also inciting a riot.

Mother.... Anna.

What am I supposed to tell them?

Pondering over my thoughts, I dropped my crack-filled bag on the couch before heading to the bathroom.

After a few seconds or so, I finally arrived.

Opening the door, I stepped inside and immediately took off my clothes before making my way towards the shower.

Opening the curtains, I stepped inside before closing it, after that, I turned the switch on and immediately, I felt the warm sensation of the shower water trickling over my head, then to my whole body.

I can even see the water mixed with blood, either mine or Roland's, flowing down on my body and towards the drain below.

Grabbing a soap from the mini shelf placed on my left, I began to rub my body using it, removing every dirt and blood on my body.

After a few minutes of rubbing, I placed the soap back at the shelf, and let the shower do the work in cleansing my soap-covered body.

A minute has passed and I'm already done, stepping outside, I grabbed a towel hanging from a hook placed on the wall.

Rubbing my whole body with the towel, I began to wrap the towel around my waist and lower half.

When I'm done, I grabbed the bloodied and dirtied clothes I took off earlier from the floor and stepped outside the bathroom.

I then began to make my way towards my room, after finally arriving, I opened the door and went inside.

Throwing my dirtied clothes on a nearby laundry basket placed on the side of my bed, I limped towards the nearby and mirror and observed myself.

Bruises, cuts, swelling, and open wounds are visible in my whole body.

I really look like a walking corpse.

Walking away from the mirror, I then headed straight towards the wardrobe on my right.

I dropped the towel wrapped around my waist down to the floor and began to change on my new clothes.

A white sweater and black jogging pants.

Whooh! what a tiring day it is...

Hearing my stomach growling slightly, I placed my left hand on it and began to caress it.

Ah man, I think I'm hungry.

But I do not feel like eating right now.

Walking towards the bed, I immediately threw myself on it.

Sorry stomach, I guess you're not going to be digesting any food for the time being.

After a few seconds of slumping down on the bed, I can already feel my vision getting darker and darker.

And in no time, I'm already fast asleep.
