Chapter 34 - Chapter 33

She shouldn't be doing this.

"RAAAGH!"

She really shouldn't be doing this.

Yet as she looked at the enormous form of the green giant that once had been the man she loved, the memories just would not stop rushing in.

The day she had met the bespectacled scientist who looked like he was one gust of wind away from falling down. Getting to know him better despite her father's wishes. Falling in love with him. Grieving him when he was declared after the gamma incident. Finding him again. Loving him even more. Promises of a happy life together. She could remember all of it. But she could remember something else much more vividly.

She could remember him dying, breaking every promise he had ever made to her.

"Don't look away you piece of shit!" And as she kept throwing her punches at the green goliath, the pain that she had thought to have buried deep within rose back up; feeling as fresh as the days she first felt them.

Why?

"Why?!

Why?

"Why?!"

WhY?!

"Why couldn't you just accept yourself?!" She yelled, her voice hoarse, as she realized that tears were running down her cheeks and her hits were getting steadily weaker to the point they no longer did any damage. Something that Hulk himself had also noticed, seeing as he had stopped hitting her back and was simply looking down at her with the closest thing his face could resemble to a pitying expression.

"Hulk feels like he knows you but he doesn't. If Hulk hurt you… Hulk is sorry." For the first time, it felt like the green giant was calm. And as she looked up and stared into his eyes, Betty found herself calming down as well.

"No big guy, it wasn't you." She said with a sigh before, for the first time in years, she started to shrink down to her human self. And as he transformation finally stopped, the wide eyed Hulk shrunk down too until he was the scrawny scientist she knew.

"Betty?"

"It's been so long you asshole." She said, staring deeply into his eyes. Almost amused at the frantic way his eyes were moving while his mind tried to conjure up some sort of logical explanation.

"But… but… how is this possible?!"

"That's what we wanted to discuss actually." And then her one hope of saving the people she cared about walked towards them. "Name's Damian and I think we need to have a long talk." He said with a smile and then offered his hand for a shake as he shrunk down to a more human size.

"Wait, the green giant was just a little nerdy looking guy?" And Hercules was just as clueless as ever.

-------------

"So... time travel?" Bruce asked with a confused tilt of his head.

"Time travel." And Betty nodded with a sigh.

Honestly, I felt like things turned out pretty damn good. Maybe that was because my expectations for these last few minutes had been ridiculously low after Betty attacked Hulk but that didn't change the facts. None of us were fighting, Bruce Banner was out instead of Hulk and there was no destruction that spanned as far as eyes could see. So yeah, pretty damn good.

"I wonder how my grandfather Cronus would react to something like this." Even if we did have an extra.

"Hercules, quiet down. You're ruining the moment." I elbowed him on the side and turned back to former(?) lovers.

"And I... die? How exactly does that happen?" Banner asked with wide eyes but for some reason it feels like there is something like... longing in his voice.

"No." A fact that Betty seemed to have noticed as well, going by her eyes turning yellow and her skin getting a more reddish hue. "If you think I will actually let you in on a way to permanently kill you, then you are as dumb as military waste of space I have the misfortune of calling father!"

"Betty..."

"Don't you 'Betty' me you bastard! I don't care about your woe is me bullshit! You think you have it so bad, that the end will be the only happiness for you, that you can't even begin to imagine how much the ones you leave behind are hurting!" She snarled at him as she reverted back to her hulk form, leaving Banner horrified though whether that was because of her form or her words were arguable.

"I mourned you! I cried for you! I had to deal with the messes you left behind! And when I finally have a chance to actually save you, all you can think is how to die faster!" She yelled one last time before reverting back to her human form, panting.

"Betty." Banner tried to reach out to her but she slapped his hand away.

"I hate you." Her words drew a flinch from the scientist and then she grabbed his shoulders. "But the 'me' of this timeline doesn't. She loves you, more than anything else in this universe, and is waiting for you to come back to your senses. So that you two can finally be together and happy."

"I'm begging you Bruce, don't betray her wishes like you did mine." Her voice quivered as she tried to keep herself under control.

*BOOM*

So obviously that was when an explosion shook the ground and a shockwave sent us all flying.
