Operation Phoenix : A Zombie Apocalypse Novel

'From the ashes we shall rise.' Summary : Compound-Z. The bioweapon developed by China, using an ancient virus strain discovered beneath the Ice Sheets in Tibet’s Guliya Glacier. An outbreak in the bioweapons facility infected the whole city. The City could not be taken back but thankfully the PLA destroyed the whole city before the zombie virus could spread. The problem; after a year, the samples of Compound-Z was found being auctioned in the Bioweapon black market. Before Clayton Nord shut the whole thing down the moment he first discovered it, an unknown number of global players had already gotten hold of the sample, Russia among them. Now all of them are working to find the cure to the Compound-Z, because anyone who has the cure will have huge power and influence over the world, using the cure as leverage. Now Russia is threatening to release Compound-Z into major population centers in the world as they are losing the war with Ukraine. After a thorough analysis of the consequences of the Compound-Z being released into the world, Clayton Nord forms Operation Phoenix to prepare the US for the possibility of a world wide zombie apocalypse. He does everything he can to make sure that some of human civilization survives through the crisis without losing all of humanity's progress over the years. MILESTONES: OPERATION PHOENIX must hit certain milestones to encourage me to continue after the first month. The milestones are to be passed by the end of the month. And they are: Gain 30 readers following/collections by the end of November . Gain a 50 favorites/power stones by the end of November. Gain 20 reviews and ratings by the end of November. For the First Month these are the Milestones that must be passed to encourage me to continue the story. There is no requirement to support me by sponsoring the work with money for the first month but it would help greatly, for me to focus on writing the Novel. What to expect: Crazy action scenes with zombies. People like to read more about the first outbreaks through an ordinary person’s POV the moment the outbreak occurs. So in Phase One you can read the outbreak stories through multiple viewpoints in various places. Phase One would have the largest word count because of that. And some characters may not live through Phase One. Zombies are the antagonists but there will be other fleshed out human antagonists that pose a serious threat to Operation Phoenix further into the story. You will get to see the moment at start when the outbreak happens till the Zombie apocalypse ends. The struggle Clayton Nord, as commander of Operation Phoenix, faces to ensure that most of the population of the USA survives through the apocalypse, a task that is almost impossible. Rich world building and lore with unique characters. Plan for the Novel: New chapters are released every Monday. I will try to keep the timing consistent. At the end of the series I want to convert it into an ebook to sell on Amazon. The end product might be different than the chapters I have published as I try to improve upon them. Thank You so much for spending your time reading my work. You can support me via https://ko-fi.com/hughstarling

Dream of the Red Mansions

"Dream of the Red Mansions," the seminal novel penned by the Qing Dynasty writer Cao Xueqin, presents a vivid tapestry of life within the aristocratic society of China's feudal era. Despite the constraint of word count, I shall endeavor to encapsulate its translation into English and offer a concise portrayal of its iconic imagery. The title "Dream of the Red Mansions" itself, translated as "A Dream of Red Mansions" by Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang, alludes to the grandeur and opulence of the Jia clan's mansion, where the story unfolds. In Western cultures, "red" might connote blood or violence, whereas in the Chinese context, it symbolizes prosperity and status. This translation, though faithful to the original, carries a nuanced cultural difference that foreign readers may interpret through the lens of their own experiences. The novel revolves around the Jia, Shi, Wang, and Xue families, portraying their rise and fall amidst the complexities of power, wealth, and love. The protagonist, Jia Baoyu, an enigmatic young man endowed with a "Jade of Spiritual Enlightenment," finds himself at the center of a web of relationships, particularly his unrequited love for Lin Daiyu, a delicate and sensitive beauty, and his arranged marriage to Xue Baochai, a more practical and conformist figure. The translation captures the intricate emotional landscape of these characters, rendering their intricate feelings and motivations in a manner that resonates with English-speaking audiences. The beauty of Lin Daiyu, for instance, is described in poetic terms that evoke her ethereal grace and fragile fragility, while Xue Baochai's character is portrayed as a bastion of traditional virtues, embodying the expectations of feudal society. The novel's imagery extends beyond the personal lives of its protagonists, encompassing the intricate architecture of the mansions, the rich tapestry of cultural practices, and the profound philosophy embedded in its poetry and prose. The "Red Mansions" themselves become a metaphor for the fleeting nature of wealth and power, serving as a backdrop for the play of human emotions and desires. In translation, the novel's rich cultural heritage and nuanced language pose significant challenges. Yet, the translators have striven to preserve the essence of the original work while adapting it to suit the sensibilities of English readers. Through their efforts, "Dream of the Red Mansions" transcends linguistic and cultural barriers, offering a window into the vibrant world of China's feudal aristocracy and the human drama that unfolded within its confines.

Little Goliath

'What is this?' Theodore thought as he opened his little eyes to what he assumes to be one of his parents who is dropping him off on the doorstep of a church at what seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, ---a few hours ago ago--- Theodore was like any other normal person: had a family, had dreams, filled with ambitiouns, liked games, sometimes goes outside, has preferences, filled with desire, and of course went through a difficult time in his life, he was just as normal as the average person is. but one thing he is different from others is that he likes roasting people online especially the rich, he loves making fake accounts just to meme people, judge thier preferences and give rating for their every day (unnecessary) objects, he even makes money from it by making videos about how stupid some rich people are. But that led him to his death when he was kidnapped by a rich woman, who he had made fun of... '???' He didn't know what happened after that... --- [Somewhere in a different time]--- 'Where am I?' he asked as he tries to move his head and eyes uncoordinated, there were noticeable things to hint where he was currently at; the church was styled like it was described from a dark fantasy book, the sky was clear with a few clouds roaming in the sky as the light of dawn hits them, and his parent who looked like a literal angel, '....they seemed to be speaking..." "....to think my offspring looked... Normal, even though you're mother is a human and I, Michael... am an angel... So shouldn't you be a €i@n¥?" The angel asked the infant, only to be replied with cooing, "Oh... Who am I kidding? You're just an infant, how can you even understand..... goodbye Little David" the angel said as he spans his wings wide, knocked on the church's door before he flew from the ground and vanished between the rays of dawn ——17——Years——Later—— 'Hmm', looking back at the moment, David sighed in his stupidity for realizing something that he should've considered, "Well I was very afraid and shaken from being reincarnated, so I really can't truly blame myself for not realizing.... Right?" He asked, seemingly into the air [No, from what I can see, the fault was totally on you] the voice of the male siri that suddenly replied to him "Well fuck you, this wasn't supposed to be my problem, I'm just a defect Nephilim, not someone who asked to be a hero!" You retard of a Sy--" [Playing; Don't Stop Believing by Journey] ================= This work is inspired by the stories of; the origins of the Book of Giants (and pages from the Bible that references to the Book of Giants), The story of David and Goliath, the themes, setting, scenes, land, and stories from various legends, tales, myths, 'n methods in both western and middle eastern. Letters for my Mother

"Letters for my Mother" is a collection of thoughts, emotions, and socioeconomic factors that have hindered my mother and me until her passing in 2007. At that time, I was away from home, moving from place to place, bunking on my sister's house one year and moving on to the other like clockwork. It was traumatic for me since I grew up knowing that I come from a large family of twelve and now living with different people all together or sometimes coming home to find my big sister hasn't arrived from work, so it was books and TV to keep me company. Most of the time, they were trying times as distance kept my two brothers and me from bonding fully. I am glad that I found an outlet for my part where everything seems to be going and coming. What was constantly being right was I thank them fully for taking me to high school, where I found my calling. Art, for me, was a constant where everything is a variable. I never knew I was artistically gifted in all areas of art. I found myself doing drama and musical at form one barely one month into the school. Next year, I found myself in Environment and Science Congress. I had hoped initially that I would blossom to be a scientist. There was this character, Dexter's lab, where he was a boy genius living in a suburban home and having a secret lab in the basement; it was an eye-opening factor for me, and I had to exercise to the fullest. Form three and four were full of music and festival of arts; that was where I grew my art to visual, and poetry came to me as a second language. You probably have figured out that school for me was not for learning, rather for making friends and trying my foot in various forms of art. After high school and pre-youth and college year (I studied computer graphic design for three months, and I dropped out for one reason I will share in my latter works), I found my calling in theatre and performing arts. I loved being on stage, acting, and bringing characters to life with costumes and lights. Telling narratives to the audience and watching them move with awe and splendor. Some hated me from curtain raise to curtain call, booing me for being the antagonist, and applauded wildly when I played the hero. After a while, I felt sick and stagnant for doing the same thing and staging in the same theatre. I saw different cultures and people around Kenya, my country, and settled for drawing and writing poetry and books. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical about my works and would write and draw sketches, and if they don't work out, I would tear them out and flush them. I know I was my worst critic, but I had my first break at 2017 under Storymoja and mentorship of Muthoni Garland, Samira Mathews, and Monity Odera. I published a children's book, "Monsters Who Disobeyed," translated to Swahili, also known as "Malipo ya Ukaidi." It was a milestone for me. I really appreciate my efforts, and three years later, I compiled this book for myself and also the whole world as a reminder that you can be yourself and be the greatest version; you just have to believe. My shortcoming is that my mother, may her soul rest in peace, would be proud of the young man I have become, being that I have never had the chance to show her how talented I am. To all the dreamers and the creatives out there, I would like to give a nugget of wisdom to all that the first step is the hardest, but you will get there eventually. After a while, I must say I am well-versed with various art forms, and I speak the language fluently. As a reader and a fan of my work, I must acknowledge that it is a pleasure giving you access to my world, and I hope to share a room in your library as a favorite.
