JACK OPENED HIS EYES after hearing some strange sounds coming from downstairs. He moved his body off the bed and quickly marched out of the room Dr. Lin had offered him and Argus to sleep in. It had been two days ever since they had been welcomed here under the protection of Dr. Lin. He had been studying about the multiverse with Dr. Lin, and she had shared her information and resources to help expand his knowledge about all this.
It was very dark. He could barely see, but he could definitely hear the faint noises. He then slowly moved down the stairs to what looked like doctor Linda's office. The door was halfway open and there seemed to be a dim light coming from the room, he heard the doctor's voice along with another voice this time for a man, judging by how deep it was.
As he was trying to listen, he almost jumped when he suddenly felt something pat on his shoulder only to see it was Argus who was lurking behind him, "Oh God! What are you doing here? "he asked, keeping his voice down so that he may not be heard,
"I heard noises from here so I came down," replied Argus holding a glass of milk in his hand. It seemed he had been observing whatever Dr. Lin was doing from the start.
"How come I didn't find you here,"
"Because I went to get a glass of milk, I get tired and hungry you know…."
"What do you think she's doing?" Jack asked.
"Umm…she has been on that video conversation for a while now," said Argus, sipping from his glass. Jack had a very bad feeling about this, he slowly pushed the door further and tried peeking to see what she was doing.
"Thank you so much doctor…." they heard the man's voice over the computer she was having the conversation with.
Argus quickly recognized that voice. It was Talon. He was about to warn Jack when the door opened and Linda walked out.
Lucky for them, she was tired enough not to notice the two teenagers who were leaning on the wall. She continued climbing up the stairs to the upper floor.
Once she disappeared up, Jack and Argus slowly snuck into the office and closed the door, locking themselves in.
"That was Talon…she was talking to Talon." Argus quickly muttered.
"Don't be so paranoid these people's world has been suffering from an invasion, and you expect the person who was leading the fight to be working for the bad guys," he said.
"You don't get it. When talon attacked my world, it all felt like they had been waiting for him, and everything they needed had been planned already. It was later when I found out that he has an army called the creed, my best guess is that they may be everywhere and Dr. Lin might be one of them." Argus flattered.
Jack sighed.
"Okay, let's go check through her laptop over and find out what's truly going on," Jack said. They were about to reach the desk where the laptop was when they heard heavy stomping on the floor and heading upstairs.
"That doesn't sound good," Jack said concerned by what they had both just heard.
Alex appeared, "What does?"
"Gosh. Don't you people sleep at all?" Jack complained,
"I heard noises so I teleported next to you_," she said.
"Let's hurry up before whatever that was checks our rooms and finds out we are not there," Argus warned trying to stay cautious of what may happen next.
"Okay, what are we looking for?" Alex opened the laptop and switched it on. Then unlocked it and started to go through the doctor's files.
"Her previous conversation. It must be recorded right." Argus said.
"Maybe… just continue searching, I and Argus will be the lookout." Jack turned to Alex.
There was a camera in the room. And on the other side, Dr. Lin was watching them. She was pretending to be tired so that she sees what they are after.
"They must know where Scarlet is," she said looking at the screen that was showing the teenagers. Behind her was a huge man dressed in military clothing armed with grenades and plasma guns.
"Should we go in?" he asked. But the doctor remained silent. She simply stared at the screen. "You know what to do."
"Yes, ma'am." He said then marched out of the room.
The lights were turned on. And they all looked. when they heard knocking on the door. They had been discovered. Jack turned to Alex, "We've got to go fast--"
The door slammed open as they all took cover behind Dr. Lin's desk. Soldiers marched with plasma-powered guns.
"You are all trespassing. This is private property." a hologram of Dr. Lin appeared from a small device the soldier was having on his sleeve.
"We trusted you." Argus yelled from behind, "I told everything." he was beginning to sound angry.
"And thank you for that. But there is a huge bounty for you guys and I need security for my people. I can't put my life and a thousand more in the hands of a bunch of kids who can do a few magic tricks…" said the hologram.
Argus clenched his fist, then jumped out to fight. But was immediately hit with plasma energy in the chest that sent him to the other side of the room.
"Argus!…" Alex yelled.
"Trying anything stupid as that and I promise we won't go easy with the blasts." Linda said looking at Argus who trying to push himself up."Now you are all going to tell me where Scarlet Raymond is, or else."
Jack and Alex weren't even aware that Scarlet had escaped from the hospital.
"Did you know about that?" Alex asked her brother. "No, it's news to me too," he replied
"You know what that means, It means we need to jump out of the building and find Scarlet fast before these guys do." Alex was always a quick thinker.
"And Argus?" they both turned then gave him a gesture of what they were planning to do. And he immediately understood by releasing a wave of flames aiming for the soldiers to work as a diversion. For them to break through the office window and escape.
They all used the diversion and jumped out landing on the pavement that was next to the street, they had used the first time they were here. And lucky enough the office wasn't so far from the ground or else it would have been a completely different story of broken bones and concoctions.
Outside there were army vehicles parked in a line. But surprisingly, there was no one in them. They were all looking around suspiciously wondering what may have happened. When they heard the indistinct chatter of the soldiers and one of them shouting, "We need back forces…powered fugitives on the loose."
Cans were thrown out of the office and a strange green gas exploded out. And the soldiers started to march down quickly. Jack noticed they were going to be surrounded in a couple of minutes if they didn't come up with a plan. The gas was somehow was starting to take effect by weakening them, he could feel his strength deteriorate by the minute.
"The gas…" Argus mentioned trying to block his nose from inhaling it. More cans were thrown and now they could see anything.
Jack waved his hand and cut through it with wind slash, but it quickly recovered from his attack and continued to get even thicker than before.
"It's affecting our magic…it must be made from the same material they used on us when we first came. I knew we should have trusted these dam humans." she retorted, she waved her hands and reached the lanes unsure if she could this kind of magic.
Summoning up every ounce of her strength, she released her power. The effect was astonishing. a blast of wind came down pounding down, causing the entire street to explode outward. The gas was cleared and the soldiers that had surrounded them were thrown down, cartwheeling then crashing into the ground. The crystal above flickered like it was threatened by her presence as the wind howled.
"I didn't know you could do that," Jack commented staring at the unconscious soldiers and the destroyed street.
"Neither did I," said Alex looked also surprised by her new magical strength.
That's when Scarlet came running and yelled from a distance, "Are you guys just going to stand there and be caught? Or your coming with me. I know where the sword is, but we have to first get to the gate."
