Chapter 2 - Discovery (part one)

In this world, they were aware of the lords of balance, both order, and Chaos. They knew that the chaos lords died at the hands of the mighty lord of order Adam Walker, who had lived up to this very time.

Humans had grown so fond of his power that some even worshipped him as a god and built temples and shrines just to honor his glory. he was a successful man wearing the face of a human yet wielding the power of a god.

Adam stood next to his office window, staring outside with a glass of wine in his right hand.

In his eyes, the world he had created was perfect and this was the most perfect place he could see it from.

A  place of power as the president of the great nation of America.

The door opened and a man dressed in a black suit walked in. "Mr. President. It's time for your interview with the reporters," he said speaking so formally.

"Tell them I will be there in five minutes." he sipped more of his wine as he continued looking out his window. He had so many memories here, some were as painful as if they had happened a day before and others were of joy, but as many as they were he still had a lot of blood on his hands to haunt him forever.

Adam had changed over the centuries after killing the lords of chaos and acquiring Argus' power. He instead became a lord of order, and with that, he gained immortality.

He was taller than he was centuries ago, but still, with cold green eyes, he had gained so much mass on his body that he almost looked like a giant man.

His mind went back years and he remembered returning to the city dragging Argus' corpse. All the excitement he had to become the ruler and master of chaos magic was destroyed when he only found ashes.

He ran mad for ten years after that. But gained back his sanity after "he" approached him again and offered him a chance to live amongst humans as their ruler. and that had been his role since then. he had seen civilizations rise and fall over the years and had seen the true meaning of human nature.

He settled down the wine glass onto his table and looked at the floor that read the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

He almost scoffed after reading those words as if it was some sick joke to him.

"Man can't live without order. They say united but all they do is fight, how sad," he thought, and then walked out of his office, slamming the door right behind him.

Scarlet Raymond was quietly seated in the waiting room as instructed by the security guard outside the building. She was completely nervous and anxious about what was going to happen next. Her heart was beating at the speed of sound. Her palms were sweaty and for some reason, she couldn't stop tapping the floor with her shoes.

All her research and grades were at her side in the blue file she had come carrying like a desperate job seeker in New York. She glanced at her phone and it was just eight o'clock in the morning, time wasn't moving at all.

She then turned it off and shoved it back into her pocket.

She needed to pass this interview if she were to pursue her dream to become an electrical engineer. And for that to happen, she had to get into the best university in New York, Bolton University of Both Magic and Science.

Scarlet had been waiting for thirty minutes at least which was undoubtedly long since she read that interviews started at half-past seven. She always had a thing for punctuality, a quality she picked from her aunt back at home.

The secretary then walked in through a door that was just next to the counter where the receptionist was supposed to be.

This woman was the secretary judging by the way she was beautifully dressed. She looked dashing in a blue top and black skirt. Her hair was blonde, and her skin was so perfectly toned to a point where Scarlet wanted to look like her when she was older.

"Miss Raymond," she called. "The administrators are now requesting your audience. Follow me please," she said, using a very kind and formal tone.

Scarlet grabbed all her paperwork and files and then stood up with so much enthusiasm and energy. She followed the secretary to the admission room where she was to take her interview.

"You mustn't be worried Scarlet the lords are with you." the secretary said, trying to calm her nerves.

"I hope they," she said inwardly.

'The secretary suddenly stopped and Scarlet almost bumped into her. she didn't know what was currently going on.

The secretary then turned to the wall where an open door magically appeared instantly like the wall had been an illusion all along.

Scarlet was surprised, "Wow, I didn't know Bolton used magic."

" Well, now you know that we do use magic. We are the best university in New York for a reason."

The secretary bragged and slowly opened the door and waited for Scarlet to be the first to go through.

"Now you may enter, welcome to Bolton," she said, gesturing to see if Scarlet had the guts.

Scarlet was amazed by what she was seeing. it was a door between dimensions, and beyond it looked like it was very sunny on the other side. She could see the glass floors of the university and the clear windows that were on the sides of the corridor.

She also saw other students with bags and books from a distance having conversations as they crossed.

She then ran through it out of excitement. and she gasped at first glance of what she saw, she couldn't believe what she looking at, and for a moment, she thought she was dreaming. The scenery even looked better than it was on the brochure she had in her apartment. The secretary followed her and the door behind them vanished.

"Where are we?" She asked,

"New York, of course, but in another dimension. I hope you read your books about portal dimensional travel and universes," the secretary said.

Scarlet's face hardened, "Of course I did."

The secretary chuckled.

They both stopped after stopping at an office door that was labeled; INTERVIEWS**

"Then I guess you know how the interview will go. Good luck Miss Scarlet Raymond."

"Thank you. Miss...…"

"Rachel," she smiled.

Scarlet was surprised by her reaction, "Okay, Miss Rachel thanks."

She then reached for the door and marched straight through, leaving miss Rachel behind who was still smiling and looking at her.

The moment she walked in, the door behind her shut, and the room was darker than she expected It to be. It was quiet and she could barely see a thing. She reached for her phone in her pocket, but she couldn't seem to feel it.

"Miss Scarlet Raymond." a woman called her out from nowhere.

And Scarlet was now scared since she couldn't see a single thing. this is not what interviews were supposed to look like.

"You will only see me if you let yourself touch the lanes and let go of this earthy bond. Hope you are aware of what am talking about, " the woman said, sounding strict and precise with each word like she was taking her time to choose those words and make them easy for even a child to understand.

Scarlet knew about the lanes, they were the sources of magic that were born on the day the lords of balance were born millennia ago some people even called them the children of balance. The lanes gave humans a chance to access a residue of the lords' power called magic which ended wars and made treatment easier and later the evolution of the human race creating demi lords, nightmares and so many other mutations making humans the weakest race in the world but still dominated most of the world due to their great knowledge about magic.

Scarlet muttered nervously. "The lanes?! Why the lanes?"

Scarlet looked around, borrowing her eyes, trying to see who was speaking.

"Yes, Miss Scarlet, why not the lanes," said another voice, but this time it belonged to a man. He must have been another administrator and he sounded impatient.

She knew what she had to do. she focused her mind and shut her eyes closed, she then reached for the lanes, and she felt the energy being pulled into her body.

It was so heavy and strong and at the same time remarkable it wasn't her first time doing this, but why did I feel so heavy and overwhelming this time around?

"What the hell is this?" She asked herself as she absorbed all the energy she reached for

"It's going to work out," she remembered her mom's relaxing voice as something to keep her nerves at bay.

And Without breaking her concentration she sighed softly and released all the energy at once brightening up the room with her breathtaking power.

She opened her eyes and the room had lightened up, she could now see the three administrators who were seated on a huge marble table right in front of her, two women and one man all looking like well-ready business-associated workers. The entire room looked like a top side of a skyscraper, it was full of light and she could see the sky along with the clouds through the glass windows.

She was genuinely stunned by the sight. "Impressive miss scarlet. You are one of the few who have made it through that simple exercise," said the male administrator, he was old and resembled a man in his eighties, his accent was sharp and English and she could easily notice he was British.

"Thank you so much,"

He smirked and stood from his seat and walked directly to her. The two women that were seated beside him didn't move an inch from where they were.

"Then I guess I should begin the interview then. You can call me Mr. Hayward " he said facing her.
