Chapter 12 - mudando

I ran off the boat and into the forest. Through the towering trees, I could see a building meaning that at least someone lived there. I reached the side of the mountain and realised had to climb. I went on a thick tree and jumped onto the side, using my knife so I wouldn't fall. There was a flat part where I sat down. I looked around and there was a narrow pathway between the side and the edge. I went along the wall when suddenly rocks began to tumble down from the top. I began to go faster in fear of the rocks falling on me.

I reached the end and there was a tall man holding onto big wooden club. Besides him was a smashed up boulder which was were the rocks came from. "Who are you, are you a son of Hades?" he said lifting his club. "N-no I'm Taragmenos son of a human not a Greek God, they don't even exist" I said backing away. He paused and lowered his club.

"Okay, I am Alcyon, if you are planning to live on this continent, the closest city is six hundred hundred miles away" he said going into his house. I froze. Three hundred miles would take me way too long by foot. It would take me more than a hundred days and I'd just gotten out of the boat. "Hey, can I live with you for a bit, I have money" I said coming closer. His head came out through the window and he said, "Don't pay me but I'll build you a little house since I don't trust you, you have the same eyes as him" he said coming back out.

Time passed and after three hours, he'd built me a small wooden hut. I went in and set out my stuff. I'd stay here for about a week then leave for the closest city. Suddenly I heard a loud roar. I rushed outside and saw a lion with a goat's head and a snake's body on it's tail. Alycon was outside standing in front if it. The creature jumped at him and tried to slash his head. He raised his weapon and pushed it in the goats mouth. Suddenly the snake bit his arm. He grabbed it with his other hand and tied it around the goat's neck while pushing his club deeper into the creatures mouth. The creature backed down and fell. His club was inside the creature and he tied it against itself. It suffocated and he dragged it into his house.

In the night, he dropped the creatures hind leg in front of my door. I couldn't bring it because I wasn't strong enough. I ate the cooked beast which tasted surprisingly good. "Mortal, next time I may be hunting when they attack, would you like me to teach you the art of the giants" he said handing me a small club. "It works with every weapon but there's one condition, you have to be prophesised as a hero by the oracle". I got up and thought about it. It was worth it because I'd need some fighting experience to beat those creatures. "Yes, I wanna learn your fighting style". He smiled and walked away, "Very well mortal, I'll teach you the art as long as your a hero, we'll depart tomorrow morning".

The next day came and he woke me up at six am. "It's about a hundred miles so it'll take us about three to four days depending on how fast you are" he said as we went down the mountain. He had made a pathway but I didn't see it because it was on the other side of the mountain. "So what's the oracle?".

"She's a priestess who looks young but is about two hundred years old". I closed my eyes to visualize her. "She wears a black robe which she says helps her see the subjects future". I opened my eyes. I couldn't imagine someone with two facts. "Ok but why can I only learn the giant art when I'm prophesised to be a hero?".

"Because I don't want to teach just anyone my art" he said crouching. "Look, there's an animal, t=it can probably see me if I come closer but your not as big as me, go hunt it down" he whispered. I nodded and approached the deer. I lifted my knife and stabbed it in the leg. It let out a cry and kicked me with it's strong hind legs. I tumbled back and coughed out some blood. Thank God it wasn't fully developed or else I could've died. "That was a test, judging from that failed hunt, I assume you were born in a calm place, probably a rural area" he said lifting me back up. I was confused at how he knew things I had mostly forgotten but that would help me find my house and mom. "If you turn out to be a hero, you'll need some serious training".

"Ok" I then realised, since it was an oracle, couldn't it tell me if I'd find my mom in this continent or another. I smiled thinking about it, now I definitely had to go visit the oracle. Night fell and he set up two tents. I slept in a small one while his one nearly reached the trees. I couldn't sleep because I thought of what I'd say when I saw her again. In the night, Alycon got out and came back with a bear. He made a campfire and cut the bear with a knife. He left a leg in front of my tent and I pretended to sleep.

Morning came and we packed our tents. I had to cut the bear's leg into pieces so that I could carry it. "We're about twenty miles away, meaning that if I'm correct we'll reach it tomorrow or we could keep travelling during the night, what would you prefer?".

"Let's keep going until we reach it".
