Chapter 39 - The Place In My Dream

*Jenny*

"AAHHH!" I screamed. I never screamed this loud in my life before. She pushed me! That bitch pushed me!

I tried to grab onto something to prevent me from falling but the only thing I was able to grab was her scarf.

Is this it? My eyes are filled with tears, tears that are floating up instead of flowing down. I am falling… but not the 'falling' that I wanted. Noel… I won't be seeing him again; I won't see his smile again. I closed my eyes in despair, am I going to die…?

NO!

I forced my eyes to open. No, I won't die, I won't give up. There must be some way I can survive this. Falling has made my surrounding very blurred, it's like riding on a motorcycle. Good thing that Noel always took me out on dates with his bike, I could somehow get a picture of some things around me. I desperately looked at every angle I could and thankfully I spotted a dangling twig that was jutted by the cliffside.

Grabbing it for the first time, I cut my palm and the twig simply slides in my hand. Eventually, my hands have been cut several times, and the pain was excruciating but the thought of falling to your death kept me going. I was grabbing it one hand at a time but it was not effective. Seeing that the trees below are nearly into my face and the ground might not be far from it. I need to think quickly. One hand doesn't get it so I tried grabbing it with both hands. My first attempts failed as the twig kept sliding in my hands but I didn't give in. After a few more attempts, thanked the lord I was able to clasp a couple of jutted twigs.

My fall came to halt, I hung at the cliffside as I panted and caught my breath. I did it! I did –

The jutted twigs that I clasped had snapped, making me fall again. Luckily this time, there was a slope so instead of falling straight down, I began sliding or rather 'rolling' down the rocky stiff slope. It was painful, roll after roll, different parts of my body hit the rocky ground.

I wanted it to end, a fast straight fall would've been much better than a slow sliding fall; it was less painful. Also, you'll only feel the pain once, and then it's all over. However, with my current situation, do I really hope for the best…?

After moments of painful rolling, I felt that I was slowing down and finally I stopped sliding. It took me a couple of minutes to gather my scarce energy and slowly crawled my way to a tree to which I sat up and leaned.

I survived… I'm still alive…

Part by part, I checked myself for any injuries. Except for my battered body and some cuts and bruises, I see no bleeding which is good because I don't like to see blood, real blood that is. I get so dizzy when I see it, even worse if it is my own blood yet cuts don't really affect me that much. Aside from those, I think I rolled into something nasty, I stink!

Alright, I can do this, I can still find my way –

I suddenly felt dizzy and had to sit down again. I then noticed that I had twisted an ankle, great. Maybe I should rest for a moment, at least for a few minutes. I then decided to rest and closed my eyes for a moment. I should regain at least enough strength to look for help.

Wait… What is that clicking sound? And that light…

I slowly opened my eyes and saw little lights flying around near me. And that clicking sound was also coming from them. I had to look closely because I lost my eyeglasses when I fell. Though I can still manage a bit without them, I still need to squint my eyes to see clearly. They were… Fireflies, they were fireflies! But if I can see fireflies then it's…

I slowly stood up though my body still ache and my ankle still hurt, I do have enough energy to be able to walk again. It was already nighttime. And this means that things just got worst. How long was I out?

These fireflies… If they're flying around here then maybe there's water somewhere, a lake or a pool of water. Damn, thinking of water made me thirstier than I was before. I should follow these little fellas; they may also lead me back to civilization.

But first I need something to tie my ankle. It will hurt so bad if I don't secure it with something. I looked around for anything I could use and surprisingly, that bitch's scarf is laying near me. Huh, even her garments are hard to shake off. But I need something like this, I had no choice but to use it.

I then followed the trail of fireflies and for heaven's mercy, there was a lake! The fireflies lead me to a lake! For now, I didn't care much if the water in the lake was clean or not, I had to refresh my throat. After I had drank plenty of water, I scooped up some of it and splashed it on my face. Though my cuts sting like hell, it was refreshing.

I saw my reflection in the water and I look terrible but at least I survive my fall. Then I noticed the moon's reflection. That's right, Noel said that tonight's a full moon. I looked up and stare at the bright full moon.

Noel… Are you staring at the moon, right now…? Are you searching for me…? I am here… I am alive…

My tears then just flowed by themselves; I don't really want to cry at this moment because it will only make me weak.

Wait a minute… A lake… the Moon…

I then stood up and looked around my surroundings. To my realization, this place was the place in my dream. What? Is this real…? I am not dreaming right…? This lake, that Moon… It's the same as my dream!

Oh, wait…! If this is really from my dream then…! –

As expected, I heard a rustling in the bushes, I wanted it to be Noel. That little hope I have in wishing that my dream had come into reality.

But those rustlings aren't from the man in my dream but from creatures that are clearly hungry for fresh meat; wolves…
