Chapter 20 - A gentleman's word, a fast horse can't catch up

As he looked her up and down, Forsythia suddenly exclaimed, "Yigol Foster, you have a nosebleed!"

A nosebleed?!

Yigol Foster reached up to touch his nose, and sure enough, there was blood. His underlings also scrambled to pass him tissues and cold water.

How embarrassing! He had never been so embarrassed in front of a woman before.

Black Peter and the other underlings all wore an expression of wanting to laugh but not daring to, clearly holding back their amusement.

Yigol Foster glared at Forsythia, his determination solidifying. He would have her today, no matter what. They could fall in love after marriage, and his love for her had never stopped, after all. He refused to believe that he couldn't win her over.

"Black Peter."

"Third Brother?"

"Bring the injury medicine prepared for your sister-in-law."

That was a secret code...

"Alright, Third Brother."

As Black Peter went to fetch the medicine, Yigol Foster watched Forsythia with a mischievous smile on his face. "My dear wife..."

"Stop calling me your wife."

"But I have already set my sights on you. What can you do?"

Forsythia looked at him with disgust, her eyes clearly spelling out 'crazy'.

With a playful lift of his beautiful peach blossom eyes, Yigol Foster smirked, "What if we calculate again to see if I'm really crazy or not?"

Forsythia frowned, puzzled: "Calculate?"

"Just think, if you take a leave, won't there be fewer people coming to my Enchanting Bar? If fewer people come, won't I earn less money? If I earn less money, wouldn't there be fewer women trying to please me? Without many women, won't my choices for a wife be limited? With limited choices, won't my chances of getting married decrease? How can I continue my family line without a wife? How can I face my ancestors from the Pay Group without continuing my family line? If I can't face them, won't I end up a lonely wandering ghost? If I become a wandering ghost, wouldn't I..."

Damn it!

Was this another domino effect?

Seeing that Forsythia was about to flare up, Yigol Foster hurriedly added, "Of course, if you're willing to marry me without minding how much money I make, then there'll be no problem with continuing the family line or becoming a wandering ghost, right?"

Forsythia scoffed, "Right, my ass."

Ignoring her attitude towards him, Yigol Foster moved closer, trying to please her. "Wife, marry me! You won't have to work so hard at your job, and you won't have to worry about taking leave."

"I'll give you my two-word response: drop it."

For two months, Forsythia had been repeatedly ignoring him. Yigol Foster's face darkened, and he slammed his chopsticks onto the table. "What's wrong with me, huh?"

"Hey, Third Brother, don't be angry, don't be angry. Anger is bad for your heart, stomach, liver, and lungs. Come on, have a drink to cool off." While talking, Black Peter poured drinks for Yigol Foster and Forsythia. Then, he gave Yigol Foster a meaningful look and advised with a grin, "Third Brother, sister-in-law is a woman, after all. Women need to be coaxed, you know."

Was Yigol Foster really serious about her? Thinking about it, Forsythia felt a heaviness in her heart. If it were true, then her role as an informant would be quite a loss.

"Yigol Foster, let's stop joking around and talk seriously. I definitely won't be going to the Enchanting Bar. You should find another Phoenix instead."

Yigol Foster, who had been drinking to calm his anger, snorted coldly. He downed his cup of alcohol and said, "Fine, I'll give you a chance."

"What kind of chance?"

"A chance to wipe clean all of your debts."

"How so?"

"If you can drink all of us under the table tonight, not only will I not bother you about coming to the Enchanting Bar, I'll also clear all your previous debts."

Forsythia, known for her ability to hold her liquor, was confident in her ability to outdrink these underlings and bodyguards. Reassured by this, she patted her chest boldly. "Bring it on." Then, she looked at Yigol Foster, "You'll keep your word?"

"A gentleman's promise is worth a thousand horses."

She wasn't sure whether he was a gentleman or not, but she knew that Yigol Foster seemed genuinely angry. She couldn't really risk angering him to the point where he'd never help her again, so she had no choice but to drink tonight, leaving herself some leeway for the future. With this in mind, Forsythia waved her hand, "Pour the wine."

"Sister-in-law is so bold!"

"Sister-in-law is a valiant heroine; even Elizabeth I would have to admit her inferiority!"

Black Peter and the other underlings had a sweet way with words, knowing how to flatter others.

Today, Yigol Foster brought two bodyguards and six underlings with him, making a total of nine people.

Yigol Foster came prepared, and there was plenty of alcohol.

Forsythia, facing off against nine.

Rock-paper-scissor games ensued with the loser drinking.

Forsythia had grown up following Gem Atkinson, and most of her interactions had been with members of his male-dominated circle. Because of this, she had learned many of the skills and knowledge common among men, and with her intelligence and ability to read people's minds, she had exceptionally good luck that night. She won seven or eight out of ten rock-paper-scissors games.

Within an hour, Yigol Foster's side lost seven men, leaving only Black Peter and himself standing.

Meanwhile, Forsythia watched them with a smile, as if she were an innocent bystander.

That smile, in Yigol Foster's eyes, was like a sky full of dazzling stars. It made him all the more determined to win her over.

He didn't calculate against her earlier because he wanted her to let her guard down and get into a high spirit. But now... Yigol Foster gave Black Peter a signal.

Black Peter nodded in understanding.

Finally, Forsythia lost a round. Seizing the opportunity, Black Peter handed her the wine.

As always, Forsythia took it boldly, drinking it down in one gulp.

Black Peter gave Yigol Foster a signal, and Yigol Foster laughed knowingly. Extending his fist, he said, "Wife, let's go again."

Though the wine was in her stomach, it would take some time for it to affect her. Yigol Foster felt as if he had put forth the same effort he had during his college entrance exams, all for the woman before him.
