Chereads / The Rightful Heir / Chapter 7 - Mate

Chapter 7 - Mate

The ceremony flew by in a blur, after my father waded me out into the pack, I sat in a chair for a good hour while the male members of the pack came up to me, said hi with some small talk. None of them were mine, none of them were my mate, and my wolf.....well she wasn't happy one bit.

'They better back the hell off you,' her growling in my head was starting to give me a head ack.

"Calm down this is the reason why we're doing it, to find our mate remember?"

'Yes well if our mate was here, he'd make sure all these dogs would stop drooling over you.'

I chuckled as she groaned, she was not having a good time. We were both on the same boat, not wanting to be presented like a show pony, but hey I was having a little fun. I was so wrapped up in my thought I didn't hear Tay yelling at me. It wasn't until her hand was practically in my face before I noticed her.

"Hey Gurl!" She screamed, I blinked and shook my head clearing my thoughts, and smiled at her. Her hair was a mess, her make up was running, she was a hot mess. She held on to Drakes hand, and he held her around the waist. The look he was giving her had me jealous, and wished someone would look at me like that. I wanted my mate, our mate, I had smelt him earlier, why wasn't he here? He could smell me too right?

"What's up Tay?" I gave her a fake smile, and she knew it because she frowned at me while my smile fell.

"How are chu? Yousss holging up ok?" She slurred. Oh yea she was drunk.

I shrugged and smiled "Yea good, I'm fine, I'm just...you know...being me." I stood up and took a few steps away from her. "I'm just going to get a drink, I'll be back ok." She nodded and hugged me.

At the same time she whispered "Don't worry about it."

I sagged in her arms a little. No, I was worrying about it, because I wanted my mate and could find him. I stepped away from her, and walked off to where the tables held all the liquor. Everyone watched me then turned back to whatever it was they were doing. But instead of the tables I turned and headed to the edge of the tree line. I looked back and I could see everyone, they were dancing, drinking and having fun. I caught sight of my little brother, who seemed to be enjoying himself, he was dancing with a bimbo, but ehh I'm not the protective type my brother could do whatever he wanted for all I cared. I took careful quiet steps into the forest breathing in all the different scents. The pine, the oak, the grass, the due, moisture, and something else.

I must have walked about 100 yard from the party, the music had started to fade, as the scent was getting stronger. It was so quiet where I was, not even the bugs were singing tonight. Inhaling deeply I tried to pin point where the scent was coming from, as I kept my footsteps light and my breathing even. I had to admit, When it came to tracking I wasn't the best but I was good at it. Sniffing around, I turned my head this way and that, it trail was winding and it seemed like it had no real destination. Stopping and turning around, I realized that my surroundings had changed, I was nowhere near the house and the party.

Shit.

'Don't worry, I'm here with you.' My wolfs voice was soothing and gave me courage.

"I'm so stupid though, I let that scent get the best of me."

'We are still on pack land, maybe 10 minutes from the house.'

"Maybe." Turning around to view my surroundings, everything was quiet, and cold. It didn't help that I was wearing a lace dress. A light breeze ruffled my hair and I could smell the scent again. It engulfed me now as the wind blew, it smelt like dirty cloths, rotted onion, mixed with sour milk. It made me gage, and I realized the scent was stronger now. Turning around, my scenes were on high alert, I couldn't see anything but the tree around me. It threw me off because everywhere I turned you could smell sour milk. My wolf was on edge now, I could feel her stirring inside me, as my body tingled with anticipation of the shift.

'There's someone here, I can scenes it.'

"I cant see them" I growled out loud for good measure.

'Your acting like a child Ella, feel them, use your senses, you can already smell them, but feel them. Close your eyes and concentrate.'

My breathing came out in short breaths, as I stood still, closing my eyes I let my senses take over. The music from my party was faint almost like a whisper. I had walked a long way and only with my wolf hearing could I hear the music clearly. Then...there it was, the smell of sour milk and rotted onion, and it was more prominent. There was a snap of a branch breaking and that's when I felt it. The heat from there bodies, there must be about 4 of them but they weren't part of the pack. The smell they were giving off told me such. Rouges!

'SHIFT ELLA!!' My wolf practically screamed in my mind.

The heat from their body's started to envelope me as they got closer. One was only a few feet and if I didn't move he would senses me. I took a step back, one stepped then 2, I was sure to be quiet then.

Snap!

I cursed under my breath, I just had stepped on a twig and broke it, and just like that, one of them stepped out be hind a tree. A dark brown wolf twice the size of mine was standing before me. It bared its teeth, snapping its jaws at me, and growled

'Shift!!!! Shift now!!!'

My breathing picked up, as I shook in fear, frozen in place. What was I suppose to do? What was happening? How did rogues cross into our territory?

'Ella!! Shift now!' Her voice was a faint whisper in my head compared to the pounding in my heart.

I took a step back as the wolf growled again, at that point I had two options, fight and try to survive but I would die in the process, or run and try to find someone, anyone.

I turned in a blur and took off, running for my life. A rogue had stepped onto my father territory and no one had noticing. How could that be?

I almost tripped over a fallen log as I jumped shifting mid-air. I pushed myself further running as fast as I could. The thudding of my chasers paws hitting the ground drove me to keep going.

"He's behind us."

'Move Ella move! Don't think about it jus-'

The air from my lungs escaped as my body was thrown to the ground as a huge body was thrown on top of me. We tumble on the floor till we came to a stop, smashing against a tree. A massive gray wolf pinning me down, its scent washed over me making me gage as growled. He hand ahold of my scruff pinning me down, as he snarled at me. I whimpered in pain. My shoulder had made contact with the floor and I cried out.

'Act helpless and when he's not looking attack.'

I turned my head and dropped lifeless, my breathing was raged so it would look as if I had passed out. Dropping my scruff, he brought his face closer, and the smell of sour milk filled my nostrils making me sick. Just as he got close enough I kick his hind legs out from under him. He fell on top of me, his weight pressing down like a ton of bricks but I didn't let that stop me. With a quick motion I flipped enough to grab his scruff and pull him off, throwing him into the tree next to us. He yelp hitting the tree and fell in a gray heap on the floor. I jumped up and ran, my legs hurt from pushing my muscles so hard, I practice regularly but this, this was something different. Out of no where another wolf jumped out and started to pursue me, this one was white with dark streaks in its fur.

'Keep running Ella!'

"I can't, my leg. I think I fractured it." I whimpered at the pain coursing through my right leg. Every time I took a step, pain shot up my leg, adrenaline pushed me to move, but sooner or later that would run out.

'RUN! Keep running!'

My breathing was ragged, and my limbs hurt....no I take that back, every part of my body hurt. "I can't, I can't run anymore." I spoke back, my run coming to a jog, as I dragged my feet.

You need to keep running or he'll kill you.

"I can't, what part of can't, can't you understand?"

'Then let me take over.' I knew she had been dieing for me to let her break through, I could feel resolve to help me.

"If I let you, you can't turn to fight ok?"

'I wouldn't put us in danger.' But right as she spoke, a loud growl ripped out from behind me.

My heart raced, making me pick up my speed, as I began to run again. I was pushing my body to its max, as I dodged trees, and ran threw bushes.

'Let me do it. I can help us both.' She coaxed me, and I finally gave in.

I faded to the back of her mind, as I felt her power serge threw my body, forcing my limbs to a greater length. We heard another growl closer behind us, and in response we growled back even louder. She hadn't fully payed attention when out of no where a large black shape knocked us off our straight run, forcing our body to hit a oak tree.

Moaning she jumped up onto our feet in a quick movement and landed in a defensive stance, growling.

'We will lose if this turns nasty. There are too many of them for us.'

"Be careful, any chance you get..."

"RUN!" We both said at the same time, as she took off once again. Only to come across an open field with no cover, "Shit" We reached the center and looked around.

"He's behind us."

There was a large gray wolf standing behind us from where we had just come. He growled baring his teeth, he was furious as he took a step, we took one back.

'Don't let him get to close,' She whispered in my mind.

I silently nodded to her. You could see the rage in his eyes, he wanted me dead, and I knew it.

Suddenly there was a loud thud to our right and I turned my head to see who it was. Appearing out of the tree line was a white wolf, with black paws. His body rippled with power and confidence, he stood tall and regal almost as if he was an alpha. His scent, it was him our mate, his scent was pine and rain and it made our mouth water.

Mate!

I could feel her excitement grow as we continued to watch him, he walked with determined steps towards us get closer, while still watching the gray wolf. Every step he took was filled with pride, but still he didn't notice we were there, at least it seemed like that to us.

'Mate!' She kept screaming in my head.

My body felt weak just looking at him. Then suddenly A growl ripped threw the night, and i was casted aside like a rage doll, hitting a near by tree, my head taking the full blow. Looked down at myself in wolf form, my black fur was covered in blood, my own blood. My vision started to fade in and out as darkness and sleep threated to pull me in. I had just looked up to see him stocking towards, me when suddenly the white Wolf forced him out of the way.

"Mate, Help!!"
