"He's my Mate." That moment those words left her lips, it was like a wave of relief. So she finally felt it as well and I hadn't gone crazy all these years, thinking it was just me who felt this way for her.
'And what, you think I was going crazy? I knew she was our Mate and yet you still didn't believe me.' My wolf grumbled in my head.
'Don't talk to me.' I was being cold hearted with my wolf, he had almost gotten our mate killed, not intentionally, but still.
\FLASHBACK/
Lorenzo had just reached the Alpha's house, when his Luna greeted him at the door. Paul his second in command and Matt his third had been in the house eating the cookies the Luna had put out for everyone at the meeting. Whole house smelt like chocolate chip cookies making it feel warm and inviting.
"Welcome Lorenzo, the boys are already here." She greeted him gesturing to both boys who had taken a seat at the bar. Lorenzo bowed to his Luna showing his resect for her.
"Where's Alpha Heart?" He asked, as he stepped around her making his way to the kitchen island and grabbed a cookie. He pushed both men and smiled down at them before shoving the cookie in his mouth whole.
"He's in his study waiting for you." She tuned back continued taking cookies out of the oven.
Nodding in return, all three men stood and bowed again and left to meet their Alpha. They walked down the hall, Lorenzo leading the way with Paul behind him and Matt behind him, but Matt stumbled tripping on the carpet. Paul looked down at Matt and shook his head, then looked back to Lorenzo frowning.
"And you want this...this Pup to be with us?" The tone of voice Paul use had not been called for, yes Matt was a little clumsy Lorenzo had to admit, but he was the best fighter Lorenzo had. He was a soft hearted boy, but he was useful in a fight.
Lorenzo gave Paul a once over and used as much authority in his voice as I could. "Enough Paul, though you may not like it Matt is the best we have. He might even be better then yourself." He turned and kept walking, as he shook a little. Paul knew how to push Lorenzo's buttons regardless of the point he was trying to make.
They kept walking till they reached the end of the hall, and stopped at a deep oak wooden double doors. It was said the doors had been before the previous Alpha had taken the thrown. Lorenzo ran his hand over the intricate design, it was beautiful anyone could see that. With reverence Lorenzo knocked once softly, as a rough voice answered on the other side.
"Come in."
Turning the handle and opening the door, Lorenzo found Alpha Hart looking over a map on his desk. Deep in thought, lines creased his forehead, for a man of about 100, he barley looked like he was pushing 40. Alpha Hart has lived such a hard life, at least that's what we have been lead to believe.
Stepping into the Alpha's office Lorenzo stood to his right as Paul and Matt stood opposite of them both. A large map of the packs territory was laid out on his desk, showing their boarders and adjacent pack boarders.
No one spoke as they all looked down at the map, Lorenzo feeling impatient decided to break the silence.
"You called us here sir, why?" His tone of voice was firm. He touched the map tracing the south boarder where he had been on last nights run.
"Lorenzo, as you know I'm old." The Alpha sighed with exhaustion. "I can't keep my Alpha spot for much longer. Our boarders are growing weak. We need to strengthen them, we need to up our patrol numbers." He looked at me, and sadness shown in his eyes. He looked tired and worn out. "Rogues have entered our outer north east side. They are close to the pack house. I want you to take a small squad and see what there problem is. I don't want them ruining everything for my daughter's big day." He turned back to his papers and sighed. "Hopefully she will mate someone, two of our neighboring Alpha's sons are here. Maybe one of them will be her mate, and we can combine packs and I can step down."
Lorenzo froze waiting to say something but held his tongue. Ella already had a mate...he was her mate...but how would Alpha Hart take it... Looking up to Paul and Matt, Lorenzo nodded to them and they nodded back. This was the reason why he made them his right hand mans. He didn't have to speak because both men knew what he wanted.
"I'll personally cover this area, I'll take Paul, Matt, and 2 others." Alpha Hart just nodded never moving from the map.
"Matthew, make sure your men stay near the party, and Paul make sure your men stay to the west. I'll trust you have everything covered Lorenzo?"
"Of course sir." Lorenzo bowed, showing his respect. He walked around the table back to the double doors, Matt followed then Paul. Paul closed the doors behind himself and huffed irritated that he was coming with Lorenzo and Matt on a scouting trip.
'You knew there have been Rogues'-Lorenzo.
Paul was the best tracker in the pack so far. It angered Lorenzo that The Alpha knew more then he did, when the patrol was his duty. 'I've been tracking them, but haven't seen them get close to the pack.'-Paul
'You knew and didn't tell Enzo? Do you think they would attack tonight?'-Matt
'I don't know Matt...'-Lorenzo, I felt the itch I always had before shifting forms. They had just reached the back door to the Alpha's house. Opening it Lorenzo was the first out and with in seconds he busted out of his cloths and landed on all 4 paws. His cloths landed around the porch in ribbons, as Paul and Matt stood there stripping not wanted to ruin their own cloths. Lorenzo shook his white fur and inhaled deeply. He was massive, bigger then most of the other wolves in the back and her was the only wolf who was white. He wasn't completely white though, he had some color on his paws that made it look like someone had tried to dye and fade the black color of his paws up to the rest of his body but failed.
Lorenzo and his wolf were one now, they had one voice in this body and they used it together though the pack bond, giving out orders.
"Matt take the red squad, double the rounds on the north west side. Any sign of trouble let me know...and take them out." Matts little brown wolf howled and sprinted off like a bullet, his small wolfs size made him fast and agile, easy for sneaking in and out.
"Paul take green squad and take care of the north east side." Paul didn't say anything but turned in a whirl of grey and black, and blended into the trees.
Lorenzo kept running straight, digging his paws harder into the ground pushing myself to reach the boarders quicker. He would take his team and head straight north cutting down the middle between Paul and Matt and double again until he met the rouges that were intruding on their land.
"Black team group" My Beta tone rung clear through the bond like a thundering boom.
"Sir" they all replied. 600yards left to the boarder and he could hear their paws beating into the ground starting to flank him.
It took half hour to get to the Northwest boarder. Paw prints covered the area they had just come to, the smell of rogues filled the air in the area. They had been camped in the area for a few day, trash and dead animals half eaten littered around. Matt gaged in his wolf form before turning his head.
Take your team and double around. Matthew, be careful. -Lorenzo sneezed and gaged in his wolf form also, when he sniffed a bag of ripped cloths.
Matt watching Lorenzo, before taking off, his group following behind him in a fast blur of fur. Paul picked at cloths, and trash along the floor as he sniffed around following the different tracks.
'Paul, you got this from here?'-Lorenzo
Paul sneezed and rubbed his nose with his paws, before looking up at Lorenzo his ears pinned back and he growled. 'These bastards are disgusting. Yea I got it from here. I'll let you know what I find.'
Lorenzo took off along the boarder his wolf a white blur weaving between trees, his group followed closely behind him as they spread out like a net. They had been running along the boarder for a few hours now, the sun sunk and the moon had began to rise. Ella's party had began, he could hear the music now. He was sure she would be waiting for her mate, while other males tried to figure out if they were the one for her. He growled tired and annoyed her couldn't be there with her, but another time then.
Everything was quiet, a little too quiet for Lorenz's liking, but no matter how much he tried he couldn't seem to find the rouges that had been staying on their land. There was a buzzing in his head and he opened his mind to anyone trying to contact him.
'Laz!' His heart stopped and as Lorenzo held his breath, the voice was panicked as Paul spoke, he also sounded out of breath.
'Lorenzo Rogues! 10 of them we took down 3, we lost Pat, 3 are on us but we lost 4. There head straight for the party.'-Paul
Ella, Lorenzo's small unite skidded to a stop as they took off towards the ceremony but stayed behind the scenes. The music boomed, as we ran behind the stage. Ella was sitting bored in a chair off to the side while people came up to her greeting her.
Mate.....Mate please be safe. The tingling sensation came again like it always had when Ella was around.
'Shouldn't we stay with her?' Lorenzo questioned feeling uncertain.
'No, she's safe now. The pack comes first if she's not in trouble.' Lorenzo's wolf was right, she wasn't in trouble, and the pack was safe here. He took off dodging trees running as fast as he could to he northeast. In the distance Lorenzo could hear the growls and howls of a fight.
Turning a corner Lorenzo ran full speed into the small campsite. It was utter carnages, tuffs of fur littered the floor along with blood splatters. Matts group of 3 were holding their own against the group of 3, but his attention was on the small figure on the floor. A small grey wolf lay on the floor, not breathing or moving, its throat was torn out and its under belly was shredded to ribbons its intestines' poured out. But the sight of the wolf didn't bother Lorenzo, he was use to it, but it was the wolf itself that bothered him. It was his own pack mate Pat, a young child by the age of 16 he quickly climbed the ranks and was a trusted patrol man to Matt. He whined but was cut short of his mourning when he heard a squeal from his right. Matt was on his back, his hind legs were kicking out trying to push his attacker off him. A large brown wolf had Matt by the scuff and was shaking him side to side, anger built in Lorenzo as he watched. He wasn't about to loose another pack mate, sure as hell not Matt. But before Lorenzo could charge in, Matt flipped and rolled tot he side, the wolf that held him flipped as well and let go falling to the side as Matt jumped on top of him and tore into his neck and back.
Matt could handle himself, and right now he was showing why he was chosen as Lorenzo's third. Matthew had torn out a chunk of flesh from the wolfs back, blood flowed from his mouth as he exposed bone and raw flesh. The wolf laid flat on his stomach and unmoving as Matt snapped his exposed spin. Jumping off the rouge, Matt realized that Lorenzo had been watching the whole time, he yipped seeing him, and ran to him stopping before him licking his own paws.
'Well done Matthew, where do you want me?' -Lorenzo
'We got it here boss, but there are 4 more out there we missed.' -Matt whined and looked over to Pats limp body on the floor, their other packs mate crowded around nudging the body and licking its muzzle.
'Take him home Matt, make sure you give him a proper barrel.' -Lorenzo
'Yes sir, what about the others?' - Matt looked the way he had lost the other 4 wolves, then back to Lorenzo
'I got them, Paul will cut them off.' -Lorenzo, he let out a howl and took off in the direction Matt had pointed. Using his nose he followed their scent that wove a pattern up and down then around heading back towards the main pack house. He had ran for a bout 3 minutes before he smelt it.
Strawberries and lavender, Ella, what was she doing out here? Her scent was mixed in with the scent of the rogues, and made Lorenzo fear the worse. Following the scent, he slowed as her hear snarls and growls, Ella scent was stronger the closer he got closer. Stepping through the trees, Lorenzo first spotted Ella's wolf, her back was against a tree as she covered her flank, in front of her stood stood a grey wolf. Lorenzo could hear his squad a few feet from him catching up, but Lorenzo walked. He put himself between the grey wolf and Ella as he snarled threatening.
No one's touching our mate.
But before anyone could make a move, a large brown wolf rushed Ella and threw her to the side. Ella's head hit a tree stump knocking her unconscious. The brown wolf stood over her snarling, but a another dark grey blur ran from the trees, and tackled the brown wolf that had been hovering over Ella.
'I got him boss.' -Gavin
The air came back to my lungs, as Gavin had saved Ella, which allowed me to turn my attention back to the rogue now growling at me. His fur was matted dirt and leaves stuck in it, you could tell he hadn't had a proper shower in days. The rogue snarled and jumped, the first to attack. They tumbled and Lorenzo got the upper hand due to his size, Lorenzo was much larger then the grey wolf. As it was no one was as big as him, except for Alpha Hart who was slightly larger then him.
Lorenzo pinned the rogue under him, snarling snapping his teeth at him, but it shocked him, when the intruder shifted back to his human form and punched him square in the muzzle, knocking him to the side. Lorenzo rolled and got to his paws staring at his opponent. The man was all skin and bones, he was tall, as he stood there naked in front of Lorenzo. If he wanted to fight like a human, Lorenzo would play his game. He shifted and stood naked facing the rogue, he lifted his hands himself and waved him on. The rogue came out him with all his force, but just before he could make contact, Lorenzo side stepped, dodging the first blow and stuck his leg out tripping the man before back handing him. Lorenzo's blow to the head knocked the intruder out as he fell a few feet from him. Lorenzo hadn't held his beta position for no reason, he was good and hand to hand combat, and it had only took him 2 minutes to know out this man.
There was sounds coming out from behind him, as he turned his attention back to Ella, she laid on the floor, Gavin stood over her protective, as Paul walked through the trees next to them. He shifted and bent down touching Ella's neck, she was still unconscious but she was still breathing. Paul tried to bend down to pick up Ella, but Lorenzo snarled stopping causing Paul to stop.
Lorenzo cleared his throat, and watched Paul, as he jogged over to Ella. "I'll pick her up, Paul. Take the rogue back, and lock him up, when he comes too, get information out of him." Lorenzo bent down and picked up Ella, where her body touched his bare skin, electric tingles danced over his skin. The pack doctor was 10 minutes from where they were. Lorenzo jogged with Ella in his arms, this should never had happened.
'It was his fault this all happened, It wasn't your fault.'
'Shut up, it wasn't for you. This would never had happened.' I mentally locked my wolf in a cage and threw him to the back of my mind.
\FLASHBACK FADE OUT/
"Enzo?" Ella called my name, she had her body angled to me, while her legs hung off the edge of the bed. She had a hold of my wrist, and where she touched me electric shocks flowing threw my left arm, trying to get my attention. Looking down at her I gave her a soft small.
"I'm sorry what?" She looked helpless, bandage was wrapped around her head, and it was my fault.
'No it wasn't, you had a job to do a pack to protec-'
'She's our mate!' My mental battle with my wolf irritated me. I shut him out again putting up an mental barrier from him.
"Enzo, what happened?" Ella looked at me questions in her eyes. But before I could speak Matt jumped in and spoke.
"The Northeast boarder had been breached by rogues. They attacked looking for your father." He hung his head low in defeat, his chest heaved with the recall of memories. "We lost Pat," he was now shaking while he talked, trying to hold back his tears, but he couldn't.
Paul was closer to him, noticing how Matt hand changed, walked over to Matts side and hugged him. They may fight, and argue, but they were still family. Paul wrapped his arms around Matt comforting him, and holding him close. The tears fell as Matts body shook. It tug at my heart strings to see Matt starting to break down and I knew why. He was the one in charge, Pats life was in his hands and it hit him hard that he had died under his watch. He felt responsible as much as I did, but more so because they grew up together and Pat was only 16.
I felt Ella shift next to me, as I looked down at her, her eyes held so much sadness, and heart break. Standing up from the bed, she walked over to him, and put her arms around him, holding him tight. Ella held him as he sobbed and broke down, his sobs racked his body. Ella turned to me and gave me pleading eyes. What was I suppose to do, I grieved the loss of Pat as well. I looked at Paul and nodded over to Matt, he had released Matt when Ella stepped up to comfort him, making Paul take a step back.
Ella released Matt so Paul could take ahold of him. "Hey Matty, come on man lets talk to the pack Doc to give you some meds so you can sleep tonight, ok?" I turned to her looking her straight on, as she stood on the opposite end of the room from.
Being this close to her made my wolf yearn for her, my heart fluttered franticly, the tension in the air was thick as we stared at each other. A small cry came from Ella, as her hands came up to cover her face. At first it sounded like a squeak, then got louder. Ella was crying, tears escaped from between her fingers as I watched her. I couldn't take it anymore. Closing the distance between us I took her in my arms, she was small and fit perfectly. Wrapping my arms around her shoulders, I held her close inhaling her scent. Ella's body shook with her cries, and all I could do is rub her back trying to sooth her.
"Shhh," I cooed while holding her tight, "Its ok, its ok." I stroked her beautiful black hair, as I still held her in my arms. I kissed the top of her head as I felt her arms go around my waist. I tilted her head back placing my hands on either sides of her face, I whipped away her tears with my thumbs and kissed her forehead.
Her breathing was hiccupped, her eyes were red along with her nose, and cheeks. In that moment I wanted her sadness to end, and in that moment, nothing in the world mattered more than her. I held my breath and slowly leaded down focusing in on her soft pinks lips. What seemed like minutes was only a second, I pressed my lips softly against hers. Her lips were soft but sweet, sending those electric currents threw me once again.
