Chapter 3 - LEVEL 3 - CAME THE SWORDSMAN

As they stand there, as if paralyzed, Mono and Kazuya watch as the guards search various areas of the town, but to no surprise, they aren't able to find a trace of their target. Eventually, one of the guards gives the order to return, and a bright light sends them elsewhere.

Mono and Kazuya are finally released, and fall down on all fours to catch their breath. They then get up and turn back to thank the person that had saved them. Who they saw was a tall, translucent man with white, pale skin, and messy dark red hair. He was wearing a white fedora with a black ring running across its center, rectangular glasses, a velvet coat which housed a white tuxedo and black bowtie underneath, and white jeans with a black belt to match. He also wore pointy black shoes, and had a sword on the left side of his belt.

"Thank you for saving us back there. We would've been toast if it weren't for y-"

Before finishing, Mono interrupted Kazuya and started to yell at the person who had just saved them.

"Aright, ghost boy. Who the hell are ya, and who said you were allowed to interfere with my miraculous getaway, HM? I only complied to stay hidden cuz of Kazuya here, otherwise as soon as you touched me I would've punched the shit out of you, ghost scum!"

"HEY, Mono! What the hell are you saying?! He just saved our lives!"

"I don't care what he did! The only ghosts I treat with respect up here are the chefs, cuz they're the only good ones. Other than that ghosts are pile of scum. They think they're SOOOO much better than ghouls, just because they have a core, and WE don't!"

"Look, I'll ask you what you're talking about later. For now, apologize to this person. NOW!"

"Who are ya, my mom?! I ain't apologizing for shit!"

"Um, with all due respect, I would like it if both of you were to lower your voices a bit. People are staring." Said the ghost.

As they look around, many ghosts unveiled themselves from the commotion, and were watching the events of Mono's trash talking."

"If you'd like, we can continue this at my house. Please, follow me."

"Thank you, that'd be great! C'mon Mono, let's go."

Reluctantly, Mono follows Kazuya to this mysterious ghost's house, and arrive at a giant wooden house in the shape of a shrine, painted a deep velvet. The interior was full of gold and red carpets, and many swords were hung up. The house itself was generously spacious, but was eerily empty in terms of furniture, containing only one wooden chair and table.

"Sorry, I really never expect anyone to come to my house."

"Ah, don't worry about it. Sorry for barging in so suddenl-"

"HA! SO *YOU* WERE THE ONE WHO INVITED *US* TO YOUR HOUSE, AND YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING BUT A BUNCHA SWORDS? HOW MUCH OF A LONER CAN A PERSON B-"

Before being able to finish, Kazuya punched Mono in the head so hard, it rendered Mono unconscious for a whole five minutes. When he woke up, he was lying on one of the many carpets on the wooden floor. He sits up and looks at Kazuya, who apologizes for hitting him that hard.

"Now, firstly, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Came. I'm a swordsman who has been living in this house for the last couple hundred years, and as a result have seen many reforms happen in the sky. Mono, the thing that happened in the upper-most layer of the sky is what I wish to discuss with you today."

"Hmph! So you saved us just so you can get the credit when ya hand us in, didn't cha? Well then, guess what? I'ma beat you up so hard you'll become transparent for the rest of eternity!" Said Mono in an arrogant tone.

"No, that is not what I wanted to discuss. Mono, I have lived in the sky for hundreds of years, and I know what happened to your race all those years ago, and why the highest layer of the sky is empty."

"So you know, eh? About the annihilation of my home and kind."

"Hold on, what are you two talking about exactly?" Asked Kazuya.

"Oh, please do forgive me, allow me to explain. Ever since the creation of the sky, different creatures would live on different levels purely for survival. Nowadays, this is due to a class divide of said creatures. The class divide took effect when a new creature claimed to be the 'king of the sky', and established a monarchy through sheer force. He then divided each layer as a class, and made it go from the top down, from poorest to richest, as he was on the lowest level. This caused the ghouls, who were at the top of the sky, to be left in absolute poverty. Additionally, ghouls were the only ones to be born without cores, which grant a special ability allowing one to utilize the energy of the sky.

"So, this king lead the ghouls so far into poverty that they eventually died out?

"No, that son of a bitch decided to destroy us all, 100 years ago! I was still a child, as I saw hundreds of guards destroy our villages to ash!" Exclaimed Mono infuriatingly.

"Correct. Ever since that day, ghouls were wiped from history, and any attempt to dig up their past is now taboo." Said Came.

"Well, that's to be expected! Now, people either think we never existed, or that we no longer exist. At this point I've gotten used to it though. In fact, It's cozy up there in the upper layer of emptiness."

"If you found it so cozy, then why is it that you attempted an assassination on the king of the sky, and gotten a human involved with your rebelling."

"Well, that's-"

Before finishing their conversation, a large thud was heard outside of Came's house, and soon enough dozens of guards were surrounding his house.

One of the guards proceeded to speak into a megaphone "Swordsman Came, we know you are keeping a sky-wide threat inside your establishment! Please hand them over before we are forced to use force!

"Damn it, they found us!" Came exclaimed.

"What do we?" Said Kazuya.

"Relax, just follow me, okay?"

Came then closed his eyes, and put his hands together, after which a purple light emerged from his palms, which he then slammed onto the ground, opening up a passageway similar to the one Mono had used when escaping the top layer of the sky.

"A bond gate?!" Mono thought to himself.

"Jump through! Now!" Exclaimed Came.

All three of them then jumped through just before the guards broke into Came's house. They find the passage but are are unable to reach it before it closes, and thus the light drops back, transporting the guards to continue their hunt.
