Chapter 8 - LEVEL 8 - TERRA

"I see. So you've teamed up to overthrow the king, huh..." Terra said nervously.

"Correct. However, it appears that our strength is, for whatever reason, correlated to idiocy." Said Came.

"Oi." Said Mono.

Terra chuckled a bit before asking if any of them would like something to eat, to which Mono immediately said yes.

"How are your wounds, Came?" Asked Kazuya.

"They're better now after Terra gave me these bandages, but they still burn excruciatingly." Came said in a monotone voice.

"At least show emotion as you say that..." Everyone thought to themselves.

Terra finished preparing the meal, and put down 4 plates for them to eat. It wasn't a big portion of food, but satisfied everyone's needs, especially the three that had just had a blood-pumping battle.

"By the way, Kazuya..." Said Terra. "I'm still not entirely sure what a 'human' is, but I get that you're from way below. Could you maybe tell me what it's like down there." She said with a little sparkle in her eyes.

"I wish I could, but I actually can't remember anything at all." Kazuya said in a slightly sad tone.

"Can't remember?" Terra asked.

"Yeah, he woke up with amnesia next to me. Thought he was dead to be honest, but luckily he woke up." Mono said while chuckling slightly.

"We are trying to reach the Clouded Mirrors first before we go to the bottom level, but given how our current strength is, I doubt we can make it there in one piece." Said Came.

"The Clouded Mirrors...?" Terra said confusingly

"Yeah, they're supposedly these structures that are supposed to 'unlock' certain parts of your brain or something." Explained Kazuya.

"I see. So you're going there to restore your memories." Said Terra.

"We're also goin' there so I can unlock some super mind powers!" Said Mono excitedly.

"Again. Your brain will literally become fried. Kazuya's case is special so he's likely to survive, but your brain is... well it certainly isn't in one piece, but it's stable enough." Came said.

"Do you want me to rip your face off?" Said Mono in an annoyed tone.

They sat there chatting away while enjoying the remainder of their meal. Insults, jokes, and conversations were thrown around. It felt like a group of friends eating out together, simply there to enjoy their time, with nothing to worry about."

"...Hey, so I have a question." Said Terra.

"What is it?" Asked Kazuya, with his mouth half full.

"Do you mind if I... join you guys on your journey by any chance?" Terra asked in a nervous tone.

Silence broke out, and Terra was simply staring at her plate. Kazuya, Mono, and Came all looked at each other, not sure of what to say.

"With all do respect, Ms. Terra, you possess no combat ability whatsoever, and would probably hinder every aspect of our team." Came said bluntly.

"Oi. How is that respectful." Mono and Kazuya said.

"As much as that was harsh, he's got a point, Terra. I'm not sure if you could keep up with these two monsters. Especially this idiot ghoul over here." Kazuya said.

"What did you just call me, yap-uya?" Mono said, annoyed.

"Don't worry about it." Said Kazuya with a little chuckle at the end.

"Why you little-" Mono thought whilst crossing his arms in anger.

"Um, I may not be the most powerful here, but I do believe I have something I can offer." Terra said.

"Something you can offer?" Kazuya asked.

Terra nodded before turning to Came with a serious expression on her face.

"Came. I would like you to fight with me." Terra said.

"Ok." Came said bluntly.

"At this point, I'm not even surprised..." Mono and Kazuya thought to themselves.

The four of them went outside, and Came and Terra were standing a few meters away from each other, while looking each other in the face.

"A'right you two. Ya ready to rumble?!" Mono said, as though he was a sports announcer.

The two of them nodded, and Mono explained the rules. They were simple. Each person had a napkin tied to their arm. The first person to cut off, or get ahold of said napkin, wins.

"One, two, three, GO!!!" He exclaimed.

Came began to approach Terra, who had her eyes closed.

"What the hell is she doing?" They all thought to themselves.

Came was nearing her, and about to grab her napkin, before she opened her eyes to reveal a golden glow. Immediately, she was able to dodge Came before he even made a grabbing motion. Came tried multiple more times, but to no avail.

"How the hell is she dodging all of that?!" Kazuya asked.

Terra continued to dodge, and seemed to be adapting to a sort of pattern Came was creating with his movements. Eventually, she grew more and more contempt with his movements, and began to take the offensive, whilst continuously dodging every grab Came could muster.

"How is she doing this? I get having good reflexes, but it's as if she's predicting my every move!" Came thought to himself.

The continuous back and forth of Terra dodging and Came grabbing became stale, and Terra kept growing closer to grabbing Came's napkin.

"What could she be doing? Could she actually be..." Came thought to himself, while thinking of a solution to his problem. "I got it!" He says to himself.

Came backs away by jumping a far enough distance to be out of Terra's range. As she approaches him, Came closes his eyes, and a purple glow began to appear. Terra stopped in her tracks, knowing what was coming, but was too late.

"Dancing volts: form one!" Came exclaimed.

He moved at a superhuman speed, grabbing Terra's napkin in an instant. Terra fell to her knees, catching her breath, and the golden glow in her eyes began to fade.

"Damn... it... I was... so close..." She said while huffing.

"That was impressive. Well done." Came said as he let out his hand to help her up.

As she gets up, Kazuya runs towards Terra, with sparkles in his eyes.

"HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!" Kazuya exclaimed. He couldn't believe that someone was able to continuously dodge attacks like that, let alone that of a swordsman like Came.

"It's because of my core ability, Miraora. It allows me to see a tiny bit into the future when I activate it, and I can control the frequency of how much I can see. Though right now, It isn't very far, but it was enough to dodge most of Came's attacks." Terra explained.

"Thought so. If you simply had god-like reflexes you would've been able to dodge my Dancing volts, but you weren't able to because you lacked the speed to match mine, despite your ability to see into the future." Came said.

"Yep. That's exactly why." Terra said in a sad tone, letting out a long sigh.

"But either way, that was incredible!" Kazuya exclaimed, with sparkly eyes, and his arms in the air.

"Well, I do have to agree. What ya did out there was quite good." Mono said, while putting up a grin and a thumbs up.

"Yes. It was really good." Came said in a monotone voice.

"Wait... does this mean?" Terra said with a hopeful voice.

"Yep. Welcome abroad our team!" Kazuya said.

"WOOHOO!" Terra exclaimed. She could not contain her happiness and started to celebrate on her own.

"Haha, that sure reminds me of someone." Kazuya said while staring at Mono.

"Shut up, yap-uya. Don't make me cave your face in." Mono said jokingly.

They all shared a laugh, and went back inside. They started to prepare to venture out. At this point, they were at risk of being found, and needed to get back on the move.

"We need to figure out where the Level Gate of this level is. Do you perhaps know where it is Terra?" Asked Came.

"Yep. It's not far from here. It should only be a few steps before we reach it." Terra said.

They were ready to set off on their journey, through the rest of the sky, now having gained a new companion!
