Students expected the man to be an old geezer, who usually around this time would come, to teach them literature. But, to their surprise it was a brand new face. A face which they have never seen before in their school. It was a man, who was well dressed and instead of having grey disheveled chair, had slicked back black hair, which was fitting his majestic looks with a sharp jawline. He was neither too sturdy nor too frail. He was appearing to be in his 20s.
Everyone in the class was curious to know who this man was, and why is he in their classroom.
"*Annyeon-ghaseyo, My name is Goo Yahwi and starting today I'll be teaching you Literature(Korean). I hope we can get along. And if you ever encounter any type of doubts in my lesson, you can ask me without any hesitation or you can meet me in the staff room. Do you have any questions which you wanna ask me now?" Even though he asked this, he really didn't expected someone to ask him something only on their first meeting.
(Annyeon-ghaseyo- a polite and formal way to say hello in Korean language. An informal way can be 'Annyeong' which has the same meaning but less polite)
So, he was about about to say something, when he saw a hand raised. To be honest, he was a bit annoyed seeing this, but nevertheless he cannot let them feel this. So he smiled and told the boy to ask his question.
"*Ssaem, do you like cats?" the student asked with anticipation.
(Ssaem- casual way of saying 'Seonsaengnim', which means teacher)
Everyone in the class became bamboozled, but it was not because of the question but Because of the student who asked it. It was none other than, Lim Yohan.
He was the last person anyone expected to be attentive in the class, let alone ask questions to the teacher, who just started teaching them. It was a very uncommon phenomenon. And on top of all, he wasn't even joking, he was asking sincerely, or so it seems.
The teacher was a bit baffled by this question, but he thought that it would be impolite to not answer him.
"N-Not really. I mean- … I do like them, but I'm not that much of a cat person. But, why did you ask so?" Yahwi was smiling, but only on the surface. He was annoyed by all this drama, on the first day of his work.
Yohan stared at his new teacher a quite a minute as if he could see right through his soul. He bit his inner lip and his head a little as if thinking something serious.
Yahwi looked at all the students seated in the class to make the atmosphere a bit less awkward, and not so surprisingly every student was baffled. He was about to ask Yohan to sit down but he spoke again.
"But Ssaem-, how can you not like cats when you're name is * Go Yangi! Did any cat scratched you or what?" Yohan spoke with confidence without even releasing his mistake, until some of the students in his class burst out laughing with his 'sense of knowledge'.
(Go Yahwi sounds very similar to the word Goyangi which basically means cat in Korean)
"You little piece of shit, which parent in their right mind would name their child as Cat. If liking cats can means that person's name will be Go yangi then you're parents should have named you *Kim Nom!!" is what Yahwi wanted to say but he just clenched his fist, took a deep breath and looked straight at the student with a smile before answering.
(Nom is equivalent to bastard in English. Yahwi added Kim as his last name, since he didn't know his real name)
"It's YAHWI, not Yangi. It's ok, people make mistakes. We learn from our mistakes. I like your way of thinking. I hope we'll be able to have a good understanding in the near future." Yahwi was smiling in the face, and every student found his way of answering very polite…. except Yohan. He felt a tone of suppression and dominance in this new teachers voice. Yohan found something a bit off about this teacher.
"Ah… how forgetful of me. You talked to me so friendly and I didn't even asked your name. Can you introduce yourself along with your roll number." Yahwi tried to clear the awkward moment and at the same time know about the students in the class, even though he really didn't want to. He was too lazy for all this.
"*Shi-bal.." Yohan answered with a smirking face.
(Shi-pal sounds very familiar to the korean word Shi-bal which means fuck, while shi-pal means the number 18)
The girls in the class gasped, while the boys started snickering
Yahwi looked at the boy with wide eyes, he knew that the boy did this on purpose. Yahwi was trying his level best to control himself as he was this close to snapping. He leaned a bit forward, held the teachers desk from both the sides and raised an eyebrow.
"Ssaem, by any chance, did you misheard something? You seem a bit annoyed, or is it just in my mind?Let me introduce myself again. My roll number is *i-shi-pal and my name is Lim Yohan." Yohan was smiling innocently. He was enjoying himself and wanted to see how long can this new teacher keep along with his play.
(I-shi-pal mean the number 28)
"Absolutely not. I didn't misheard anything, I just liked your name a lot but I was just hoping that the God will really be gracious to you just like your name. Anyways, you can sit down now." Yahwi didn't want to appear like a child in front of his new students so he ended the conversation for good.
(Yohan name meaning is God is gracious, that's why Yahwi was trying pull his leg by messing with his name just like he did. Idk, I just asked Google uncle.)
"So now, one by one, you'll all tell me your name and roll number. Starting this the person sitting on the first desk" Yahwi continued the introduction without any further disturbance because no body tried to mess with him and for this, he was really thankful. He don't know himself what he would have done if Yohan kept on dragging it.
Soon the bell for the next class rang.
"Your real studies will start from tomorrow. See you later." Yahwi strides his way out of the class with the usual smile.
He went straight to the last door of the hall with the signboard Literature department. He slid open the door.. and surprise! Surprise! The so called literature department was empty as an idiots mind. The room had two teacher's tables, placed parallel to each other with some pens and literature book on it. There were also separate shelves for each teacher.
Yahwi went inside the room, closed the door and slammed his planner diary, on the table. Of course, the other teacher was not there, other wise Yahwi would have rather chose to threw himself out of the window before showing this side of him to anybody else.
He checked his timetable , and realised that it's a free period for him. He actually needed it. Dealing with these headstrong students, one after another is really bad for his imagine. So, he sat in his chair, and tried to relax himself. He closed his eyes.
"Keep yourself together. There's still a long way to go. You can't let them see you like this. Never." He kept chanting these words inside his head like some prayer.
Suddenly someone knocked on the door which disturbed his meditation. He opened his eyes, plastered a smile on his face and stood up from his chair, after all he didn't wanted anyone to see through his thoughts.
