"Mummy" the little girl with blonde ponytails cried out as she ran into the house.
Throwing her school bag to the floor, she ran up the staircase. She was so excited. Her crush had asked her out in school today and she couldn't wait to tell her mama.
As she approached her parent's bedroom she could tell something was wrong. The door was cracked open and the light was streaming into the hallway through the crack. She slowed down as she heard a sniffle from inside. She slightly pushed the door open and took a peek inside. Her daddy had his back to her as he sat on the medium-sized bed. His shoulders were hunched over and she could feel something was wrong. He was supposed to be at work. Something was wrong.
"Daddy" the little girl called out quietly. The man immediately got up discreetly wiping his tears but he knew his baby girl was smarter than that she did not top her class for no reason.
"What's wrong daddy where's mummy?" She took slow steps towards him afraid that he will start crying again.
"M...m...mummy is g...gone princess" he whispered looking at the note he found on the bed when he came back to grab a document for work.
" Okay, when will she be back?" the innocent girl asked quietly wondering why her daddy was worried. Her mother goes out all the time. Her news will just have to wait till she came back.
" She's not coming back, princess". He whispered while a few tears left his eyes. He loved his wife. They hardly fought. They loved their daughter even if she was unexpected. He trusted his wife. The letter in his hand tore his fragile heart. He never let his wife work. His job wasn't luxurious but it provided enough money for all of them. They lived in a three-bedroom apartment. They had a small living room and a small kitchen with worn-out furniture but they could afford a three-meal every day. How could he have known that his wife was seeing another man? How could he have known that she was not satisfied? How could he have known that she thought of their daughter as a mistake? How could he have known that she was pregnant for another man and she wanted to abandon him and their daughter for this man? He just realized he was married to a devil all along. His family disowned him because of her but he loved her. He left his riches behind for her. He felt he could not breathe. He wanted to die. The pain was unbearable. But looking into the chocolate eyes of his 8-year-old daughter he knew what he had to do. He knew she had great potential and he was going to help her harness every inch of it. He gathered her up in his arms and looked into her teary eyes. With the last of his strength, he smiled at her just as the first few drops of a million tears escaped her eyes.
"s....s.shhh" he cradled her head to his chest as they both sought comfort in each other's arms.
" Daddy no she has to come back no." she pushed away from her dad and ran to the door. She settled down on the stairs and waited. she cried and waited.2 hours.4 hours.5.6. all the while cleaning her tears with the hem of her pink worn-out dress. She refused to eat and the clouds looked like it will rain soon. Her father had already come to beg her to come inside but she was stubborn. So stubborn, she knew she had to wait. She had hope. As the first few tears landed on her blonde hair turning it dirty blonde. She still had hope. The rain washed away her tears and she could feel the cold seeping in but she still had hope. The neighbors came out of their homes to watch the little girl who has been crying for the last 8 hours. Their old hearts broke at the sight but they knew that nothing they did would comfort her loss
Finally, her father had enough, he dragged the little girl, she screamed at him, kicking and clawing as he wrapped her up in an old blanket.
"Samara, Samara, stop" he commanded sternly, and immediately she stopped. The two stared at each other and they soon lunged at each other trying to seek comfort in each other arms.
"it's okay darling, we would get through this together," he said trying to believe the words he just spoke as he hugged his daughter so tightly he was sure it was hurting her. His wife had torn them apart she left a hole so deep he knew it would take some time, maybe years to fix. She soon fell asleep in his arms and he decided that they had to leave for California. He would ask his boss to transfer him to the company's branch in California. There he was sure his daughter will grow healthy and this trauma would not affect her anymore but one thing was for sure. They had to leave.
