Chapter 78 - STILL MOVING FORWARD

Through the wreckage, fire, and smoke, Peter makes it to his feet, his suit damaged and body injured. He slowly flips over multiple large pieces of ruble, searching for Jason. When he flips over a large piece of ruble, finding the Goblin unconscious and laughing. Peter scowls at the sight of him and continues to search for Jason, not finding any trace of him after an hour. The next night, Ra's Al Ghul watches the news about the Black Spider and Spider-Bat going to war on a rooftop, with regret on his face. His daughter, Talia Al Ghul, walks in and sees the report.

"You think he'll be able to rise above this?" Talia asks.

Ra's doesn't answer for a moment, standing to his feet and walking past his daughter.

"He'll have to, if he's going to become the head of the League Of Shadows." He says.

When Ra's leaves the room, Talia stares at a picture of Spider-Bat caught on camera.

"I am sorry... My beloved." She says.

Meanwhile, Peter stands in the Batcave, staring at the Scarlet Spider suit. Andrea then walks over, putting her hands on his shoulders. Peter closes his eyes, turning around as she puts her hands on the side of his face. He then sinks into Andrea's arms, still affected by everything that has happened.

"I couldn't save him." Peter says.

"I don't think he wanted to be saved. Jason fell into an abyss years ago. And no one, not even you could've pulled him back." Andrea says.

Ben and Jill soon come in, comforting Peter as well. They all then look at the Scarlet Spider suit together, remembering the boy that once wore that costume.

"Sir. In light of all the recent events, would you like me to remove that?" Ben asks.

Peter stays silent for a moment, putting on his mask.

"No. This doesn't change anything... it doesn't change anything at all." Peter says.

He then swings out of the cave, as the three people he has left watches on, still worried about him.

As Peter swings through the city, he thinks to himself.

"God. This is Peter Parker. Can I ask a favor? I know I've been your personal cat toy for the last few years... But can we not do that to me for awhile. Not real long. I know the odds on that are about zero... but just for a little while."

At that moment, sirens are heard in the distance.

"Just kidding, God... Just kidding. But you already knew that, didn't you?" Peter thinks to himself, swinging to another situation where he is needed.

While that's happening, a hooded Jason Kaine gets on a bus, leaving New York City. He takes one last look at the city, he's both lived and died in, wishing he could say goodbye to everyone. He let's out a sigh and gets into the bus as it drives away.
