Chapter 1 - Prologue

The injured deity raced back from the threat. He didn't have much time now. His chances were slim to none.

Being the wily being he was he had a plan. Not to win, but to stop his opponent from winning. Some might call it crazy, but he wouldn't stand to hear anything like that if they said it. Instead, he would likely slap them If he had the chance. This was life or death and his only chance rests in making his opponent realize he was not worth the time. Some mortals would get dragged into this sure but they would thank him for it.

Rushing to his abode he threw open the entrance and started working his magic, not even bothering to slam the door behind him. It would take him more time to lock the door than it would his opponent to blast it open once more after all.

He stood in the room and started to chant, lines on the floor suddenly glowing brightly from seemingly nowhere. He chanted and chanted, even as a shadow grew in the doorway. He opened his eyes just as it stepped into the room and the spell dissolved around him, its job complete.

Turning quickly he started running once more, chancing a glance over his shoulder as he did. It stopped in the room where he had been seconds ago and looked around in confusion. Turning his head back to the front he ran out the other side of the building, a little slower, and a little less gracefully. He ran.

Krieg felt himself floating. Not like he was in water, but rather in something like space. He could feel nothing, hear nothing, and see nothing, even his own body didn't exist in this space. As he woke up he could hear a whisper in the distance before he heard the following message in a deep voice, a tinge of panic nearing its edges.

"I gave these gifts to you, I saved you, In time I may call for you, though you have already been more helpful than you know. Use what I have given you wisely. There are others, more like you. Your relationships are yours to choose. Not all are friendly, many will try to take advantage of what you have. Others will hate you for it. Choose wisely in this new world, Krieg."

Then he felt himself sink through the space and into oblivion once more.
