[9:18]Am
I was still baffled at the shocking development, I never had even anticipated such a thing would occur with simply one little wish.. A wish to be free and fly high, higher than anyone and everyone...Or at least as high as most people do… It can't be helped, it was inevitable.
The time was approximately [9:19] in the morning, around this time most people would have already done their daily routines such as bathing and getting ready for their next activities.
I on the other hand was getting ready to meet this so-called suiter, which I knew was a lie. Elizabeth, who was now rearranging my bed, refused to have any sort of eye contact or so as to utter a single word to me, she knew she was lying, I knew she was lying. But I had to find a way to get her to speak the truth! Stroking my chin I stared at her back, like as if the answers would present themselves on there.
Soon, an idea came to my head, I thought back to the time my aunt visited, she was always the type to tease and mess around with people's emotions just to see how they would react.
No one knows why she is like that but we just concluded that that was just the way she was, she out of all the people I've known, has only been the single soul to so much as "make fun" of my mother, I remember vividly that Elizabeth, Shawn and myself almost met our maker that day, we were so terrified to see how my mother would react to my aunt's sneaky comments, but to our sheer surprise, my mother only shrugged it off with a small smile. To be honest, that was the first time in my entire life I had ever seen her smile.
Ever since that day I've wanted to learn more about my aunt and her crazy ways, so that I too could stir up a storm. So, I talked to her. She was very bold and loud, just speaking to her I could tell that she was truthful and straightforward. She was also a bit of a "battle-ax" in a way, which does fit her tall stature. I also noticed that she had a thing for Elizabeth, maybe that's why Elizabeth always gets teased the most...Anyway, I remember her saying that Elizabeth can't resist doing as you say when you bring up the "oath" she made to my family.
Remembering those credible words of knowledge, I smirked and said in a salty tone, "Well, I reckon you don't care for your OATH, Hmmm?" Just the mere mention of the word "Oath" caused her to spin around on her heels, turning her attention to me, she gulped. Ladies and Gents, we have her.
"Remember the OATH you made...Huh, Elizabeth?" Raising an eyebrow I looked at her with judging eyes, I wasn't being serious about the oath thing, I just wanted her to talk, and oh boy, she sang like a canary. Perhaps it was because of my actions or just because she felt guilty, She spoke. Leaving the bedspread that she had already folded a dozen times on the end of the bed, she made her way to me, I stood in the middle of the room, waiting anxiously. I'm still surprised that the oath thing worked, what was the oath? And why is it so important? These questions sank heavily in my brain until a voice called out to me.
"Princess Kai.." Elizabeth said faintly. Her eyes stayed on the ground before slowly gazing at mine. Now, I felt bad! Why does she look so vulnerable? I sighed and grabbed the stool nearby, Elizabeth watched with her sad expression which turned into a perplexed expression, placing it in front of her I stood on it, now people remember... I am 142 cm while this woman is 158 cm, it's only fair that I am leveled with her.
Once I got on top of the stool, I placed both my hands on her shoulders and smiled, "It's okay!" I chuckled, "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to! I promise that I won't be mad." What was I saying?! I desperately wanted this information and now I'm just throwing this opportunity away? Is this what...A kind person does? Or is this just out of pity… well I do know that I want to ease her burdens. I mean, it doesn't seem right to guilt-trip her with this "Oath" stuff, so I won't.
Although what she said next shook me to my very core. Elizabeth sighed, she looked at me directly with sad eyes, I decided to hug her and within that hug, she whisked me off the stool and placed me beside it before returning it back to the dressing table. She held my hand, and like a child to a guardian, she guided me to my bed and sat me down before sitting down herself.
She placed her hands on her laps and clenched them, they were shaking in whatsoever that was keeping her down. Her head was low for a few moments until she finally spoke.
"Princess.. Kaito.." She uttered after such a while, she definitely grabbed my attention, no one ever called me by my real name, probably because they don't know it or they were told to address me as such "Princess Kai".
Staring at her with all seriousness, I was now more interested than ever.
" You see, your mother isn't taking you to see another suiter.." She said with a bit of despair mixed with embarrassment, I scoffed and smirked, saying, "Well I knew that much! You need to work on your lying skills.." I laughed a bit as I said so, Elizabeth also let out a little laugh. "Yeah, I suppose.. But that's beside the point." She continued, taking my hands in hers, she brushed against my fingers with her fingers, putting that of a gentle force with each caressing, the kind a mother would. I felt calm and safe, I felt like a newborn for just a second.
"Kaito, your mother..She-..She wants to take you for surgery." She confessed as quickly as she could. I was shocked, there were numerous things that were going through my head at that moment, I felt numb and sick to my stomach, every part of my body ached while my head began to pound and spin uncontrollably, as it felt like everything around me was enclosing on me. Gathering myself together, I stood up from the bed without so much as uttering a single word. I felt so annoyed, irritated, and sick right now, that if I were to so much as speak, it would definitely not be polite.
Elizabeth stretched out her hands with the intention of stopping me but soon retracted them. She warped her arms around herself and look away from me, staring outside the window with a gloomy expression.
A quick gust of window blew in from the window, causing my curtains and Elizabeth's hair to fly up then land gracefully. I sighed and turned to face her, I could see the tears swelling in her eyes, and how her body was trembling. Why was she so emotional?.. I was the one going for surgery, not her. So, I fail to understand her sympathy.
However, I'm not so cruel as to not lend a shoulder. So, with quivering legs, I made my way to her and sat right next to her. She turned to me with a very pained look, she reminded me of a dog who had broken its paw, with this in mind I smiled at her and wiped her tears. "It's okay.. I'll be fine.." I said as I moved my arm around her body and hugged her from the side. It was hard considering her stature, but I managed.
"I guess I saw it coming.." I said as I looked forward and stared at my wall with a smiling face. Elizabeth looked at me with an astonished face, sensing a bit of concern in her vocals, she asked, "You did?" And I instinctively nodded.
"H-how come?" She raised an eyebrow as she spoke.
"I don't know.." I responded in an empty tone, "Call it intuition? I just knew she wouldn't wait till I turned 13... That's too much for her." I said laughing a bit pained. Soon I was jumped with a huge hug. Apparently, Elizabeth had jumped on me and gave me a comforting hug, that's what I could assume the hug was for, but it scared me, so I yelped in response.
"Aah!"
Soon we found ourselves laying flat on my bed and Elizabeth on top of me...She's heavy.. I felt like I was being crushed.
Patting her back, I gasped for air and said, "It's alright. Let go, please... Heavy is you.." But she only held on tighter. Is she trying to kill me? I thought, maybe this is an assassination? Joking! Elizabeth would never do something so evil to me, but really though, what was she doing?!
"Elizabeth, any more than this, and I will faint from lack of oxygen!" Immediately she let go and bolted her eyes away from me, she was blushing from embarrassment. It was then I understood why my aunt always teased her, her expressions were priceless! I chuckled as I sat back up, it was hard to tell who was the child here.
Soon she returned her gaze to me and I stared right back at her with a cheeky smile, I'm not gonna lie, deep down I was terrified of the Idea of surgery, I was already contempt with what and who I am and I have no interest in changing it, but of course, the choice isn't mine to make. Regardless, I smiled away the fears, I knew what to do. I gave Elizabeth a nod followed by a wink. She on the other hand responded with a sigh as she closed her eyes then opened them again.
Bluntly, I announced, " I'll run then." Elizabeth nodded, like as if she had already guessed what I was going to say. "But to where?" She asked with an uneasy tone. I shrugged as I stood up and placed my hands on my waist.
"I don't know, all I know is that I can't stay here," I said as I went into a deep state of thinking.
"I understand my lady, I'm just worried about what would happen once you run… how would your mother react? And most importantly your brother and best friend?" She said as she stood up and strode her way to my side, placed a hand on my shoulder, and turned me to face her, she bent over and raised her eyebrows, "What will you do about them?" She asked once more.
I sighed as I looked away with narrowed eyes and scrunched up eyebrows, "My brother will be fine without me.. For Shawn.." I trailed off, Shawn will definitely be a problem, I can already see our conversation going downhill.
"What about Shawn?" She asked.
"For Shawn.. He'll just have to understand. I'll explain it to him." Instantly she cut me off, "And your mother? What about her?" She said as she stood up straight and looked down at me. I placed my finger on my lips and thought for a brief but short moment, soon I shrugged.
"Ehhh, there's nothing to be done about her. No matter how you go about it, she will surely find out and her reaction won't be a pleasant one. So just forget about her for now. My question is.."
My eyes glanced at Elizabeth, she glanced back at me with a mild look, I narrowed my eyes as I scanned her with suspicion. Sure, we are close, but I can't overlook her loyalty to my family, can I really trust her not to disclose my plan before I put it in motion? That was another story to tell...
"Can I trust you?" I asserted softly but firmly. She kept her gaze on me and blinked multiple times, she was stunned by my question, I could tell. "Can I trust you?" I asked once more as I inched closer to her. She nodded slowly, "Of course, you can! Do you see me as a traitor?" She asked, looking unhappy as ever.
At the moment, I was about to mention the fact that she had just tried to lie to me just some minutes ago...But, I stood to the topic and only stared before responding.
"No, I don't see you as one to tell a lie nor betray one's trust.. Which is exactly why I ask." I turned my back from her and peered around my room. "Im just worried that your loyalty to my mother will overpower our friendship," I uttered with a woeful tone.
Soon I had been spun around on my heels and was face to face with her. It all happened quite quickly
She had a childish angered face, why does she have to be so cute when she's angry? "Kaito!" She shouted with all seriousness, I stood still with widened eyes, kept my arms by my side like some kind of soldier, it's funny how this beautiful woman before me could be so intense. "Listen, I would never betray you! You're like my little brother, I would never do that!" She said with a firm expression, we remained in this position, keeping eye contact with one another...till I got uncomfortable, sure she's my friend, but there is such a thing as personal space, and this much eye contact was really weird.
"Elizabeth, I get it. You can let go now!" I said wincing my eyes, getting flustered at the moment, lucky for me, she let go. Thank the heavens. "Well, your secret is safe with me." She said, giving a confident nod. I nodded and smirked, "Then I'll leave tonight!"
