Chapter 35 - Lost

Daphne's eyes glistened as a smile crept up her face. He had forgotten to lock the door!

The hallway was empty, and Daphne stepped out of the room, closing the door again behind her. If he had gone out to escort the guest, she probably did not have much time.

Since he had brought her here, he was either always with her or he had locked her up inside the room. Although he did not hurt her or anything, Daphne still felt the need to always know where she was.

The Black manor was enormous and since they had teleported here, she didn't even know where the entrance or the front door was. If there ever came a need for her to escape, she had to know the way!

Plus, although this world was crazy and even if nowhere seemed to be safe at the moment, this house and this devil family seemed very dangerous. If she could find a way, she had to leave!

Even if she was with some fairy or mermaid or even a vampire, that was always better than a whole group of devils! Thinking about it, Daphne quickened her pace as she tiptoed across the red velvet carpet, which fortunately did not make any noise.

It was daytime so she could not leave now and Lucifer would be back soon, but it was not too early to start coming up with a plan.

Daphne would pause before turning the corner, but it was as if even the heavens were helping her and telling her to leave, for she did not run into anyone.

She walked in the direction she had remembered seeing from the balcony, since the entrance was to the left of the balcony. However, the manor was like a maze, and at the end of every hallway, there were choices to make.

In the beginning, she continued to turn right and occasionally turned left when it was a dead end, coming across several closed rooms. But none of the hallways led to the entrance.

She did enter some large open rooms and quickly left, afraid that someone would show up.

As the minutes passed by, Daphne began sweating as she had broken into a run. She did not know how much time had passed and was afraid Lucifer would be back already.

If she couldn't find a way out, she would have to go back, and if Lucifer realized she had not been "good", she would certainly be in trouble.

The cloth scratched at her skin as she started running back, giving up as she tried to find a way back to Lucifer's room. Trying on her own to escape had been a bad idea.

She should have known that this place was much too big and she would never be able to figure out on pure luck where she was.

She had originally tried to memorize every turn she made, but perhaps it was because she was too nervous, but her mind turned blank as she could not remember.

With no other choice, she began making random turns again, trying to maneuver her way back to the room. All the doors looked the same, although some were bigger and others smaller.

Daphne gasped for air as she ran down the hallway, no longer scared to run into someone. She was hoping to run into a servant, or even one of his siblings! At least they would know where she was and possibly help her get back.

Even in the hallways, the lights were very dim and as she continued to run, she started to hear a slight ringing in her ears, dampening all other sounds.

As she turned a corner, she was so tired she stopped, resting her hands onto her knees as she panted, unsure of where she was.

She slowly edged forward, her heart beat rising again for some reason. She was no longer running and although she was scared, there was no reason for her heartbeat to speed up.

A bad feeling filled her as she felt her stomach churn. She was very hungry.

She slowly neared the end of the hallway, and she realized that this was a dead end. There were no more turns at the end of this hallway.

She stopped walking, looking around at the candles on the sides of the wall. This hallway was especially dark and eerie. Perhaps it was because there were no windows here, so this part of the manor was darker than the other places. However, it was also unusually silent.

All she could hear was the sound of her heartbeat, her breathing, and the ringing in her ears.

Seeing that it was a dead end, she turned around, beginning to walk back in the direction she had come from.

Where was -

"What are you doing here?"
