Chapter 44 - The Restaurant (2)

The worker was just about to leave to get all the workers prepared when he heard a cold voice ask, "Is there a reason why there is only one chair?"

The worker, who was the manager of the restaurant, looked at the chair in confusion, not sure what the devil was asking about, "Master Black, there is only one person."

Hearing this, Daphne could not control her anger anymore as she glared at the worker, opening her mouth to ask if she wasn't a person or if he was blind.

However, once again, Lucifer seemed to be able to read her mind and he beat her to it, his voice dangerously cold as he spoke, "Is she not a person?"

The manager's eyes quavered over to the other girl standing a few feet away from Lucifer, his eyes traveling down her clothes to her dirty legs and then the shoes covered in mud.

He still could not fathom why the devil was so angry, but looking at Master Black's face and eyes made his legs shake in fear. His voice trembled as he muttered, "I thought. . . isn't she a slave?"

Daphne knit her eyebrows together when she heard this. So Lucifer wasn't lying. . . There were indeed slaves here in Healeh. She could not blame him, as when she looked down at the way she dressed, she did indeed look like a slave or a servant.

Well. . . even the servants dressed better than her.

"Slaves wouldn't need a seat, right?" The manager added, a hint of annoyance when he looked at the girl.

Daphne was upset with the worker's assumptions, but she honestly did not care much, for she did not have a seat back at the Black manor either. She was starving, and she only wanted food.

Daphne turned to look at Lucifer, wanting to tell him that she could just sit on his lap again like last time, but she froze when she saw Lucifer's expression.

He looked furious, ten times more mad than when she had dirtied his clothes.

She stepped back, a bad feeling building up inside her as she had not seen this devil this angry before.

The worker seemed to have also noticed this, but it was too late as Lucifer suddenly snapped his fingers together in his left hand.

Suddenly, a scream filled the room as the worker started writhing in pain, falling onto the ground as his arms and legs twisted left and right in a terrifying manner.

His entire face scrunched up in pain and it looked like he was getting electrocuted, although Daphne had never seen it happen before.

The ear-piercing scream scared Daphne as she jumped away, her eyes darting back and forth from the worker to Lucifer, wondering what was happening.

Lucifer was just standing there now, looking out the door as if nothing was happening.

Was he causing -

Daphne's attention was torn away when suddenly, she watched as a chair flew into the room like someone had thrown it. It landed perfectly in front of the table, across from the other chair.

Daphne could not believe her eyes as she stared at the chair and then looked back at Lucifer. His eyes had turned a very dark and scary red, and he was no longer looking out the door, but at the worker now.

His lips were a straight line, but Daphne could almost see a slight hint of a pleased smile on his face. Perhaps her brain was playing tricks on her eyes.

The man continued to scream and Daphne could now be certain that it was Lucifer that was torturing the man, and although she was not the victim, her heart still wrenched up in fear when she watched the man on the ground.

Lucifer did not care at all as his expression lightened up a bit, calmly pulling the chair out and sitting down. Then, he looked over at Daphne, who was quivering slightly, "Sit."

He no longer looked as scary as earlier, but she was still terrified as she quickly walked to the other side of the table, pulling the chair out and sitting down.

There was a menu on the table and Lucifer picked it up, leaning back comfortably as he asked her, "What do you want to eat?"

Daphne did not know what they offered here but even if she did, she could not focus with the man's screams ringing in her ear. If this continued, she was beginning to wonder if the man would pass out or even possibly. . . die.

Daphne's hand shook as she dropped the napkin she had been grabbing onto, and she could not watch or listen to this any longer.

"Stop," she ordered, looking at Lucifer, who was reading the menu. After the word left her mouth, the fear returned and she quickly added, "Can you stop?"

Without even looking up from the menu, Lucifer tapped his finger on the desk and at once, the man's body stopped moving as he laid there on the ground.

The sudden silence was even more loud than the screaming from before, as the guests downstairs had all stopped talking as well, wondering what was going on up in this room.

The man was breathing heavily. Nothing about him seemed to have changed but he was sweating, and it looked like he was about to cry.

Daphne was surprised that he stopped so quickly after she asked him, but she felt much better without the sound of the screaming. The horrible sound gave her a headache.

"Get out of my sight," Lucifer ordered simply, his voice cold once again as he calmly flipped to the next page of the menu.

The man heard this and although he looked exhausted, he managed to crawl and roll out of the room.

Seeing this, Daphne could not help but feel terrified.

Lucifer did not end up asking her what she wanted to eat and he ordered a few dishes with another worker that came and served them.

The entire time, Daphne noticed that the workers' legs were shaking when he was inside. He dropped the pen several times as he was taking their order.

The food came up quickly and it looked delicious, like something that they would eat back in Country A. She pushed the scary scene from earlier to the back of her mind when she saw the food.

Perhaps he had been that mad because she had dirtied his clothes earlier, putting him already in a bad mood. She should just be more careful now. . .

This was the first time they had eaten together, sitting across from each other in equal positions.

As they ate, both of them did not speak and Daphne was not keen to talk to the devil either. The rest of the meal went by in silence.
