Chapter 10 - Side Story I Chapter III: The Port City Of Ganham

"You dummy, you don't have to do all that."

"Um... what?"

"Nature loves you, why bother hopping on someone's ship? Hitch a ride on one of my whales. Ooh! Call for Bert. He loves going on long expeditions."

"That's a great plan, Gaia, but, I can't breathe underwater for very long."

"Not a problem! Bert is a magical beast and can protect you from the currents."

"I... see. Thank you for helping, Gaia."

"No problem!"

While continuing to discuss plans, Freia kept on walking. Feeling her legs tiring out, though, she decided to call for help to Krodoa.

Not even a minute later, a cheetah, one that had dark spots all over it's body, could be seen running towards her. It's body seemed bigger than the normal cheetah, at least twice the size. Despite it's bigger body, though, it looked like it could go even faster than the normal ones could with ease.

"Gaia, is this a magical beast too?"

"Indeed. This little one knows how to use wind magic, and it assists him in moving at extremely fast speeds. Go on, now. He's waiting for you to get on."

Freia looked down, and saw the huge structure of the cheetah, lying down towards her, gesturing her to get on it's back. Wary not to fall, she steadily grasped it's back, and allowed the cheetah to do the rest.

Blazing through the grasslands, Freia felt almost no wind resistance in the wind, only the occasional wind gust that hit her face. Enjoying the ride with the cheetah, she began to scream in excitement, almost like a cowboy, or in this case, a cheetahgirl. Hehe.

A few hours later, Freia could see the Port City in the setting sun's horizon. Eager to explore the oceanic depths, she gave the cheetah, which she named Agil, as in agility. She laid down to pet the cheetah, and it purred in response.

"Thank you for helping me, Agil. Let's meet again sometime."

"Mreow."

The cheetah soon left, at the same speed at which it came. Almost like it didn't get tired running at the speed it did over those few hours.

The sun was now almost gone, and it's place the moon was rising. Soon the sun's radiant glow turned into nothing more as the sky was taken over by the moon's glimmer. Countless stars shone in the night sky, adding more into the moon's beauty.

It was now night, and even then Ganham didn't seem like it would stop receiving people. Ships came by, sometimes to deliver goods and sometimes on their way back from Gaia. Truly, it fit the nickname of the "city that never sleeps."

Finding a place to stay for the night was an easy task. The port city was divided up into three different districts. District One was the dock, where all the ships came through to park or to depart. District Two, was the Entertainment Area. Various taverns and restaurants could be found here. It was a perfect place to take a breather from the day's worth of work. Accompanied by the sound of men cheering and drinking, it was also a popular place to scour for info, as rumors said that the owner was a particularly well known man, and kept in touch with many things. His information network led him to be able to know a lot of things, and you too, could get in on the action. Provided you paid a price, of course. District Three has the residential homes.

Freia wasn't in need of any information. Her only objective was to reach Gaia and find the two apostles of Mind and Light. She was hungry though. So she stopped by a well known restaurant that served seafood that was freshly caught from the sea. As Ganham was a port city, most of it's income came from the sea, if you take out trade.

The Sea's Catch, the restaurant she was going to, also happened to be located near an inn. Thinking about it, she decided that it would be better to travel at day rather than in the darkness at night.

Entering the establishment, many of the people eating were astonished at the sight of the beauty who came in. Elves in particular, weren't rare at all, as they inhabited many different places in the supercontinent.

But this elf was radiating a sort of elegance, that no one dared to talk to her. They just stared at Freia as she walked pass all of them, and sat down on an empty chair.

Freia's two eyes also helped in this. Along with the radiance that looked similar to her left eye, her right added in to the mix, creating this aura that was both beautiful yet distant.

The owner was a scrawny man, thin in figure yet emitting an atmosphere that demanded respect.

"Good day, girl. What are you getting? Today we had an exceptionally great haul, almost like the fish were scrambling into the nets. Weird, I know. The special is the Crauvanian Lobster, by the way."

"I'll have that then. Do you have anything to drink that's not alcoholic? I'm traveling tomorrow."

Even though Freia's aura was frightening, it didn't seem like it affected the owner at the very least. He just stood his ground and asked for her order.

"Aye. We have Moackale. It has a texture similar to grape juice but is a bit bitter. It's refreshing though, you can count on that."

"Then I'll get that."

"Aye. Let me put your order in real quick. I'll say it might take 15 minutes at best. Sit tight and I'll get it to ya."

15 minutes soon past.

The lobster is then brought in, along with the beverage. The dish looks like it used all the meat on the lobster, as it's set up in a circle around the plate, with a dipping sauce in the middle. Similar to ranch, from Kenneth's world.

The cold beverage tastes a bit bitter, as the owner said. Feeling it slide against her throat though, almost like it took away all her thirst just from that one sip.

Freia took her time eating. Part of it was because she was talking to Gaia about various things, mostly basic questions. Just to know more about her. If we summed it up, this was what she learned.

1. Her figure is worthy of a goddess. With leaves as hair, they fall down all the way to her butt, and multiple flowers grown on her head. Her curves look like they serve the purpose of seducing men. Her eyes are similar to Freia's, except there is no black, only two shining golden ones. There is no black, because she doesn't take more than necessary from nature. What she takes, she gives back. She is nature.

2. The God Of The Mind is currently residing in Argonsville, in Fahndra, along with the Goddess Of Light.

3. Fahndra in Gaia (the continent) is different from Hudra. As Gaia (the goddess) said, humanity has progressed in many aspects using magic. She warns Freia that she might have difficulty in navigating the futuristic looking world of Gaia, as it looks and functions very different from Hudra.

4. Gaia treats all animals as her children. She cares for every living thing, no exception. Without them, this world wouldn't work.

After a round of questioning, Freia finally finishes her food, as she stands up from her chair and oh no. She doesn't have money. This is a weird situation.

She talks it out with the owner, and she agrees to go out in the sea and get two lobsters as payment.

She sits in the corner of the shore, and asks Krodoa to bring her two lobsters. Two crustaceans are soon seen swimming up from the surface of the water, and she goes back to the restaurant and hands the two as payment.

Finally leaving, she went to the nearby inn, this time paying with money, given to her by rats that found it lying on the ground.

The next day.

Freia woke up early, as the sun was still rising from it's slumber, she began to prepare for her trip.

Looking for an isolated spot in the beach, she called out Bert's name, and a loud grunt is heard. Unable to swim onto land, Freia instead dives into the water and grabs hold of Bert, the whale. As soon as she grips it, she felt that she no longer needed to breathe, and she did. Releasing all the built up air in her lungs, she breathed out and found that she could stay without breathing as long as she touched Bert.

"Little Freia, dear. Bert is asking you to hold on tight, as you could slip off his skin."

"Oh, right. Sorry Bert. Can we go now?"

A response from the whale is heard, and soon the water crashes and waves are formed above the surface as it's fin swings rapidly, and they move on.

As they move through the ocean, Freia is fascinated by all the wildlife. Various types of fishes, who would normally be scared to approach the big whale, all hurry up to it as they follow Freia as fast as they can.

Even large squid, Bert's species worst enemies, don't attack them as they move through the currents.

Taking her time to relish in the ocean's beauty, Freia kept a grip on Bert as she became enamored by the sights. Various type of corals, algae, seaweed and many other types of aquatic plantlife were spread all around.

"We are currently in the season for migration. You might find multiple schools of fish swimming through the water. Try to talk with them for a little, lend them a hand, and they might pay you back someday." (Gaia)

"I've always wondered what it would be like to talk with animals. Oh! There's a school of fish there. Can we go talk to them, Bert?"

Bert's responds by immediately changing direction from their original destination, this time going a bit off course. This wouldn't be forever though, as they'd get back on track soon.

Arriving near the fishes, Freia waves towards them, and catches their attention.

"Good day, ma'am. What can we for you today. Do hurry up please. We have a problem and we are afraid we can't be of much help." A fish asks.

"Oh, no worries then. I actually wanted to help you guys out. You all look like you're running away from something."

"Oh, we certainly are. I don't want to trouble Madam Gaia's apostle with our problems, but if you're offering, could you..."
