Chapter 9 - The Signal

Namjoon's POV

The evening had started off smoothly with a welcome speech from the host. Soon we were all mingling and meeting new people from other companies. I had lost sight of Zee and wasn't sure where she had disappeared to. I last saw her when she ran into one of her former colleagues.

Throughout the evening I was speaking to other idols and celebrities, most of which I was quite acquainted with. I soon made my way towards the bar and got myself a beer. I decided to chill by the bar while having my drink.

I stared out into the crowd hoping to see if I could catch a glimpse of Zee. I finally spotted her by the balcony. She was chatting and getting well acquainted with the group from the USA.

"Hey RM, can I join you," Jackson asked.

"Hey buddy, yeah of course," I responded.

Jackson also ordered a beer and then sat next to me.

"So I gather Zee is the girl you told me about?" he asked.

"Lol, yeah she is," I said with a chuckle.

"She really is beautiful and has a lovely personality but RM, you hardly know this girl," Jackson stated.

"I may not know much but I do know that she is kind hearted, passionate and very humble," I explained to him.

"Well... You sure schooled me. Sounds like your falling for this girl," he said with a chuckle, "Have you told her how you feel?"

"No, not yet. She's been avoiding me since the kiss happened."

"So, if you asked her to dance, she may make up an excuse?" Jackson asked.

"Yes, she will most likely will," I stated.

"Okay, I think I can help you out with that," he said.

Jackson explained to me what his plan was and told me to follow his lead. In short, he would ask Zee for a dance and I should cut in as soon as he gives me a signal.

I watched him smoothly make his way towards Zee and soon after he led her to the dance floor. I'm not sure what he was whispering in her ear but whatever it was must have been funny. Zee couldn't hold back her laugh at all. She looked so comfortable dancing with Jackson and I wondered if she would be the same with me.

To be honest, I felt very jealous at how carefree and comfortable she was around Jackson. I trusted Jackson, I knew very well that he would never try to win her over, but the feeling of jealousy still lingered.

The song soon changed to a much slower love song. Jackson was still dancing with Zee and then winked at me. That was my signal to go and cut in.

I made my way towards them, trying to be full of confidence. "What if she doesn't want to dance with me?" I asked myself internally. Nonetheless, I still took small strides towards them.

"Mmhhh, do you mind if I cut in," I asked them.

Zee looked very shocked, and she got all tensed again.

"Sure, why not? If it's alright with the lady, that is," Jackson said in response.

We both looked at Zee for her answer but she just looked at me with big eyes unable to speak.

Zee's POV

"Zee... May I have this dance?" Namjoon asked bringing me back to life.

I was shocked when he asked to cut in. I don't know why, but lately I've been feeling very tensed around him and I've barely been able to look him in the eyes. And now he is asking me for a dance.

"Uh, sure," I responded but very hesitant.

"Cool, I'll wait for you guys by the bar," Jackson said with a smile.

Namjoon moved closer towards me and took my hand. He led me away from the dance floor and took me to the balcony. I didn't understand why he was taking me outside.

" Namjoon, why are we out here," I asked him with a confused.

"The dance floor is a bit crowded and besides, I was hoping to talk to you as well," he said.

"Uhm, okay. What you want to talk about?" I asked.

"Let's have that dance first," he said while pulling me closer.

Namjoon started to move slowly, swaying side to side with me. I tried to see if I could keep a bit of distance but he had pulled me right close to his chest and his one hand held me tight by my lower back. I tensed up again as I couldn't believe I was this close to him. I tried to relax but the smell of his cologne was giving me goose bumps.

"You don't have to be so tense around me," he whispered.

"I'm not tense," I said.

"Then what's wrong?" He asked while twirling me around.

"Nothing, I'm perfectly fine," I lied.

He then pulled me closer to him with no space between us. I couldn't believe how good it felt to be in his arms. I was so nervous and scared that I would step on his foot and make a fool of myself.

"I'm sorry if I'm making things uncomfortable for you," he said close to my ear.

I stopped and looked at him with a surprised look.

"What do you mean?" I asked him.

"You have been avoiding me since the kiss happened," he said.

I didn't know what to say, I just looked down. I tried to free myself from his hold but he really was holding me quite tightly. He started to move again slowly continuing our dance.

"Zee, you can't deny that there is an attraction between us," he continued to say.

"I don't know what you're talking about," I said acting dumb.

"Lol, you know what I'm talking about," he said with a chuckle, "I know you feel it too, I just don't know why you won't accept it."

"Namjoon, this isn't the right time to talk about this," I responded, "In fact I think it's time for us to get going."

I wanted to free myself but he pulled me closer. He lifted my face up by my chin in order for my eyes to meet his. I tried to look away but I couldn't. It felt like a magnetic pull as I was completely drawn towards him. We were both inching our heads close to each other and I knew we were going to kiss again...

Crash!!!

We both jumped from the loud sound sound of breaking glasses, that came from inside. One of the guests had bumped a waitress, causing her to drop the tray full of wine glasses. I took this as an opportunity to step away from Namjoon.

"I'll meet you by the entrance," I said and quickly stepped inside from the balcony and raced to leave the venue.

I was soon waiting outside for our ride, admiring how beautiful the stars looked up in the sky. I was so lost in my own thoughts that I didn't notice that Namjoon was standing next to me.

"I'm sorry," he said, "I didn't mean to cross the line."

I just looked at him and as much as I wanted to tell him it was okay, it wasn't. The sexual tension between us was getting worse by the second. Which was one of the reasons why I was keeping my distance from him.

"Zee, please talk to me," he pleaded.

"Just let it go, okay!" I snapped at him.

Our car arrived just in the nick of time and I quickly got in. There was an awkward silence on our way back to the villa. I looked out of the car window the whole time. I just couldn't face him right now.

The car dropped us off by the gate, which was right at the end of the driveway. I let myself in and walked pretty fast for a girl in heels but somehow Namjoon caught up to me. He caught me by my arm and pulled me close to him. It was at that moment that he kissed me passionately.
