Chapter 1 - Chapter one

The sound of the ambulance echoed inside the comic book store, people were screaming and running towards the bridge.

" Shouldn't they be running the other way ? "

Well, I guess whoever films this might make some money off a new YouTube video. Since that's the first thing that comes to the mind of a teenager during a crisis and what sounds like a dreadful collision on the bridge.

Stuck inside for almost two hours, I got to read the entire comic without having to pay for it. The road had been cleared and we were directed to leave. I take a glance at the bridge and stand on my tiptoes. I could barely see anything other then a truck that had been turned over and the yellow barricade tape on every corner of the bridge. It didn't look like anyone was injured on site but that may be because they were already at the hospital.

Finally got to my dorm room and aimed straight for my bed. Seems like my roommate, Sabrina took the partying elsewhere tonight. The room was a bit tidied up since I left to campus this morning.

After a riotous and exhausting day, I skipped my night shower, got straight into a comfortable shorts and flung my wired bra across the room. I landed face first onto my pillow and had instantly fallen asleep.

" Where am I ?

How did I... How did I get here ?

How did she get here?

Wait ... who is she ? "

oh great! She's back. What kind of sick roleplay is she acting out tonight? And with who?

" Is this her bedroom? Did i ... No, this doesn't make any sense "

I could hear a rather tense but confused voice from a distance. The guy didn't stop blabbering for the next 15 seconds, I pulled my pillow right across my face and flung it across the room. Perfect it's 3am and I'm up. Do I want to knock on her door and ask them to quiet down ? No !! The last time I did that she stayed in her sexual character and tried to bite me with her vampire teeth. Although, it does seem like his talking a lot. Maybe they're not doing anything freaky.

" AHH!!! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE , WHERE IS THIS PLACE ??"

A powerful scream piercing my ear. Why is he screaming at 3am. I swear her taste in men are just getting worse by the night. She sleeps with more then three different men a week and each of them completely different from the other. If she'd actually agree to date one of them, maybe they'll last longer then a night or find a guy that genuinely likes her. I hurry to her room but her door was already opened and she wasn't in there.

" What are doing sneaking around your own dorm room at this hour? " - he asked in a strong English accent

I turned around trying to find the voice but there was no one there. I did find Sabrina passed out on the couch, a bottle of wine dripping onto the carpet and either one of her fluffy handbags or just a really hairy mouse, I couldn't tell with the lack of light in the room but there was no sign of anyone else.

That's strange, it might be her TV left on or her set of headphones connected to something. I checked the TV and switched off both pairs of headphones.

I felt a instant shiver through my body and had this weary feeling that someone was watching me. Taking a deep breath I anxiously whispered

" Is there anyone there "

- while my eyes rapidly searched every corner of the room

" Is there anyone there ? " - he teased

" What is this? A low-cost horror movie? " and sarcastically chuckled

I feel a tremor in my hands as I realise that there was no one else in this apartment. My fists tighten against my body as I stand completely frozen staring into a mirror.

" I take it that you can hear me? " - he whispered

It sounded as if he was right behind me and walking closer.

" But can't see me ?" - He whispered into my right ear.

I can feel his presence, I know that there's someone there. Right now I really won't mind waking up to Sabrina's loud parties or one of her high-pitched midnight meltdowns.

I can hear him breathing down the back of my neck but I can't feel anything. As scary as this is, I take a deep breath, unclench my fingers and turn around to face him.

" What the fuck are you doing in my bedroom ? " Sabrina screamed

Startled, I jumped and tripped over one of her shoes nearby. She was way more scary then a ghost. She ran over to me looking worried, dusted her shoe and placed it aside. After getting myself up, Sabrina stared at me and then quickly to the door, directing me to leave.

" Did you hear him too? " I ask concerned, wondering if I'm losing my mind.

I continue to scan her room, frantically moving my head up and down until

" OW!!! "

A cold slap across my face causes me to lose my balance and take a step back.

" Ahh impressive, she can take a hit "

I sprung behind Sabrina trying to find him, without even reacting to her just slapping me. She slammed the door behind me and I went back to my bedroom assuming that she couldn't hear this voice.

I wasn't afraid of ghosts or demons. It was disturbing that I was the only one who heard him. What is he? Could I be imagining this whole thing? Could it be that I ate something of Sabrina's. I could be drugged, that's an acceptable conclusion.

As you would expect, I couldn't fall asleep. I was troubled and was frightened to close my eyes even for a second. What if he tried to kill me or turn me into a ghost too ? I haven't heard anything since I got to my bedroom. Crawled up facing the wall, holding my knees against my chin.

" Who could I call at this hour ? " Staring at my phone in dismay

In a very serious and deep voice

" I'd recommend the ghost busters " he said followed by a gruff sardonic laugh

I cried in fear for a full 10 minutes until I had woken up and realised it was already 11am the next morning. My phone had died and I was so late for work. I was still a student at Mountview University and I worked part-time at Teal's Coffee shop. This is the latest I've ever slept in. Whatever happened last night might have been a peculiar dream or the after effect of Sabrina's space muffins.

After getting out the shower, I wrapped the towel around my body. I felt a faint but very pleasant shiver and I somehow knew he was there. Watching me, stalking me, haunting me. God knows I didn't want to start a conversation with a ghost, especially not while I'm naked and alone in my shower.

With sudden confidence I asked

" Don't you have anywhere else to be ? "

Part of me hoped that there would be no response and I would be able to get on with my life as if last night had never happened.

" Fortunately no, I'm quite enjoying this view " I could tell by his cheeky voice that his been here while I showered

" Why can't I see you ? " I asked

This time in a gravelly calm and puzzled tone he questioned

" How can you hear me ? "

I tried to ignore him or IT or whatever the hell this is and I got dressed for work. Headed straight to the counter and found my best friend Astrid, working exhaustively to cover both our shifts.

Immediately putting on my apron, I hurry up to her.

" I'm so sorry I'm late, I'll make up for this i promise. Although I have a completely valid explanation and it's definitely something you want to hear" - I blurted in immediate guilt.

She didn't seem phased, never looked in my direction and continued working as if I wasn't there.

" Wait!! Hello !!! Look at me! Astrid!! "

I

screamed in sudden panic while following her to the kitchen.

This is strange. Is it because of my encounter with this ghost.

Why can't she see me?
