Chapter 12 - 12

LISA

I am almost certain that I hear a smile in his voice as he reports that the enemy plane has returned home. There is no way that I can tell whether he has done what I said or followed his own reasoning. I am just about to move on to my next mission for him when the supervisor puts a hand on my shoulder. I turn to look at him and then he says.

"We just received a report back from our fake enemy plane that your pilot has not followed your orders. Please bring him back to the ground"

I nod my head in agreement and then I sigh without realizing what I am doing. For some reason, I had some hope that my dad was wrong about this guy and that he is not mentally unstable and for that matter anything wrong with him but now I have to write this incident up in my report. I get on the radio and say.

"Bravo Romeo 05 this is Tower. You are ordered to come back home. Over"

BRIAN

Ah, fuck! I did it again. I do not know why I do what I do but it just brings me so much joy and excitement when I do things the better way. I do not like it when any man dares me and does not do what I say. That pilot definitely asked for it. I then reply on the radio.

"Roger, Tower. We are coming back home. Over"

It does not take us long to land and then taxi our jets back into the hangars. I have not even stepped off the plane when my instructor walks up to me.

"What the hell did you think you were doing? Do you think this is a joke Captain?"

I climb down the steps and stand at attention, saying.

"No, sir!"

"Do you know how much one plane costs? What if the enemy crashed right into you?!"

I do not say a word because I have learned through my past experience that it is better to just keep your mouth. Of course, if I could say something to him I would say that I had everything under control and there was no way that he would have crashed into me.

"I do not know why they brought you back but there was clearly a good reason why they dismissed you! If you are not going to play by the rules then I suggest you find yourself a new job. Do you understand?!"

"Yes, sir!"

I realized that I have screwed up again and that I probably should be starting to play the way that they want me to play.

"You are grounded for the rest of the day. If I am not mistaken you are on toilet duty? I suggest you start as soon as possible because there is a lot of toilets that needs to be cleaned"

I hope that they would have forgotten about the punishment that I got the very first day but I know there is no getting out of this.

"Yes, sir!"

Then he walks away and I walk the other way. But then I see two soldiers following me and as I turn around I realize they are here to see to it that I do what my superiors said I should do.

"So you guys are my bodyguards for the day?!"

I see them wanting to smile but fight it as hard as they can, not to smile. I know that I am popular with the soldiers but I am definitely not popular with authority. I smile and then I turn to make my way to the first toilet I can find.

The rest of the day they move me between pilots as people go on lunch. Because my pilot decided to do something that is not the way it is supposed to, he was grounded and now in a way, I am grounded too. It feels as if I am growing a little bit of anger towards Captain Smith because now I have to do all the dirty work.

Finally, it is my time to take lunch and I make my way to the mess hall. I find myself sitting alone at a table and my mind starts to wonder about that soldier I saw the very first day. How is it even possible that I can still think about him? I shake my head and concentrate on the food that I am eating because I am taken.

BRIAN

It feels as if I have become one with a toilet. I hate every second of cleaning a toilet and finally, my two bodyguards go on lunch. Food is as far away from what I am thinking of right now and so I just take a seat at the nearby bench in one of the parks. I just need to rest up a little while before continuing with the rest of the base's toilets.

But as I take a seat I realized I am too close to the mess hall and the smell of food is making me nauseous. I am just about to get up when I see that undescribable gorgeous exquisite woman that I saw the other day. I was so happy when I realized that she might not be one of the soldiers and here she is walking right in front of me almost teasing me.

I could not see her body the other day while she was sitting behind the table but now every curve on her body looks flawless as she makes her way to the mess hall. I did not realize that I was sitting on the edge of my seat as my body starts to turn in the way that she is walking and without warning, I fall to the ground as I run out of bench to sit on.

I quickly get up and look around me to make sure that no one saw me as I feel my cheeks starting to burn with probably that deep dark red color. That was probably the most embarrassing moment I had in a very long time.

Then she disappears behind the doors of the mess hall. Instantly, I have an internal conflict going on in my mind. Should I get up and follow her straight to her table, which I would do almost every time when I see something I like, or should I listen to the words of my good friend Jim and not get involved.

"Fuck!"

I shake my head as I hate not to know what to do and finally, I decide there will be no harm in just watching. So, I stand up and quickly make my way into the mess hall.

I look at the people around me and I see some of them laughing and some of them looking very tired. I know that the training is very harsh and you can easily feel tired for weeks on end. When you are finally through the training you are a happy soldier because it feels like you have achieved something.

It is clear to see who is still in training and who has made it through already. I can also see who are the higher ranks. But as my eyes scan through the crowd, I see a man walking through the doors and that is the same man that had my attention only a few moments ago.

I stare at him a little while longer than what I should as it looks as if he is walking in slow motion. As his one leg steps in front of the other, the bulging of his leg muscles is unmissable. But as my eyes slowly creep up to look at his eyes, I find myself holding my breath as I see his bright blue eyes staring at me.

I quickly look down and concentrate hard on the half-eaten toast on my plate. I feel my chest moving up and down rapidly and how badly I want to calm down. I did not mean for him to see me looking at him but then a question is prominent in my mind. Why was he looking at me?

BRIAN

It does not take me long when I arrive through the doors to see that woman that has my complete devotion already. She is biting the straw between her teeth while her eyes are inspecting the room but then unexpectedly, she looks straight into my eyes. I quickly look away and I realize that no woman has ever done this to me.

I have always been able to stare back at any woman that is interested in me without feeling even a drop of insecurity but I could not stop the blush that appears on my cheeks at this moment. I make sure to quickly hide behind one of the food stands as I do not want her to see the red on my cheeks.

But then when I look at her again she is intensely busy looking at her own food. Did I imagine that she was looking at me or was it the real deal? I do not want to move any closer as I am afraid of what my action or reaction would be when she might look in my direction again.

I take something from the counter to put in front of my face and this way I can stare at her without her noticing. But then when I look at her from behind the thing in front of me, I see her looking at me and laughing.

She has the most beautiful smile I have ever seen but then I realized that she is laughing at me. She stands up and shakes her head while she makes her way out of the hall.
